I love this. I love the concept and I love the characters. I think this manga deserves some more love because of how unique it is as an isekai. To be clear, half of the story is spent on earth while simultaneously watching the other half which is spent inside the fantasy world.

The story is a bit depressing...now, it should be a bit depressing because a man went into a coma for 17 years after all. But during his coma he was transported into a fantasy world. The story starts with the MC eventually waking up 17 years later back on earth (at the ... age of 34) from his isekai world. This premise is already unique for an isekai... usually, most isekai stories start at the beginning of their isekai journey (often without sufficient background context), but this starts right at the end of the journey.
The overall atmosphere of the situation feels somber, but the more and more you read... the more comedic it gets!...and sometimes the story can get slightly infuriating or depressing depending on how you look at how each event plays out.

Some people might dislike the main characters because of how dense they can be...but for me, I love them for it. The uncle has a strange personality, and all the circumstances that happen in this story are so ridiculous that you can't help but appreciate uncle's story, perspective, or maybe way of life. Uncle is a radical-lover of Sega's video games. He spent most of his childhood and teenage years (before transfer) playing Sega's video games...so he's definitely not the usual MC hero you'd expect in a modern Isekai. Simply because his personality is so strongly bound around one specific company, so he's not just the "common gamer". He doesn't even play RPG games! That's shocking because fantasy-isekai stories, including this one, are so strongly tied to the RPG theme. What else makes Uncle unusual is how he operates in the world(s), he lacks some common sense in BOTH the fantasy and real world for separate reasons. In fact, the more read, the more it makes sense to me about why and how Uncle is such a dense MC. Especially when it comes to the girls he meets on his journeys.

This Isekai is a bit depressing, but not for the right reasons... Overall, it's a comedy. And I think it's a GREAT one at that, because it turns everything you usually expect from a generic fantasy isekai into something completely different...AND those twists (kinda) makes some sense!

Also the art isn't exactly beautiful but it's super fantastic in the way it represents and depicts the whole story. Especially the way which the character's expressions are drawn are hilarious!

I rate this manga a 9/10 because of how much I've enjoyed it and simply because I think it's purely well done.
Ojisan is beautiful.

Isekai Ojisan, ah, one of the hidden jewels out there. Reverse isekai manga, I have to admit that this is one of those rare hidden gems I stumbled upon while asking recommendations from other manga readers.

this manga is funny af.... it breaks your expectations every chapter.... it leads you on thinking its gonna be one of those tropes again..... wrong.... its actually the opposite.... art wise the characters looks cute in the isekai.... elf san and mabel san are cute.... imagine if your uncle was comatose for 17 years then wakes up full of story about isekai......... its crazy but... its actually funny.... then it turns out to be true...... anyway its a good read.. and i look forward to each chapter that come out.... dont attack orcs that dress like a human.. they might actually be human ...

I'm a BIG, BIG FAN of this series (both manga & animated adaptation), and at the same time I am a busy man. That's why the accent in this review will be put on who the intended audience is (demographics), so that you don't lose your time and get the chance to enjoy the manga if it suits you or just skip it without becoming a grumpy troll.

This manga is not aimed at total rookies. You have to have your experience as an anime watcher or manga reader. Some exposure to the isekai genre, AoT, One Punch Man and Evangelion are definitely among the minimum ... requirements to understand what Isekai Ojisan is parodying or referencing to.

There is a bunch of other stuff that this series makes allusions of, like movies - Jurassic Park comes to mind - or videogames -mostly some old niche Sega Games developed by Treasure like Alien Soldier, but also classics like Golden Axe. You really don't need these as part of your background to enjoy the series. But be aware that it is also a thing, and because of it people who grew up in the 90s may have a slight advantage -at having fun with this work, that is.

If you are also interested in NEETs or shut-in people in general, or even in the experience of migration, you might have a blast with Isekai Ojisan.

That's about it.

Now let's review its qualities very shortly.

The art is outstanding. You may not like the style - taste is subjective, after all - but you can tell there was a lot of work behind it -something similar happens with Oda Eiichiro, who also has a very personal style.
It varies from very detailed to very simple, and from very beautiful to very ugly, depending on what the author wants to communicate.

The characters are great, unless you get stuck in the fantasy world Ojisan is showing, and expect more of it.

The plot revolves around Ojisan, a 34 years old man that returns to contemporary Japan (2017 autumn) after being in a coma for the last 17 years. A big part of the story follows his memories of those 17 years - that were spent in another world, actually - but it also shows his development after his return. He slowly but surely begins to adapt and grow - in that sense, I am convinced Isekai Ojisan is not just funnier than shows like ReLIFE, but also that the storytelling is way more natural: it doesn't tell you about the development, it just shows you the development while making you laugh at the same time.
The plot is, in other words, splendidly crafted.

The sense of humor is mostly parodic, but also quite dark, absurd or lewd. There are of course situations that bring funny misunderstandings with them, but they are not as cliché as the ones we are used to see in other, more mainstream series.

All in all, there is a lot more you could write about this awesome manga, but the risks of giving spoilers are very real.

A masterpiece as of today (9/9/2023).

this mange i did enjoy it for a time but i had to drop it the uncle is just so infuriating, witch is the whole point of the manga but it just too good at making him insufferable. its a neat idea to put a spin on the usual op nature of isekais. the arts fine but nothing special theirs a small amount of "romance" but its not gonna go anywhere. the uncle relay loves sega so if your a big fan of there properties you could get some some amusement from that aspect. id guess id call this a cringe ...

This is one of those series that you have to give a try and read more than just a few chapters in order to appreciate the greatness and potential that this manga has. This is also the author's first work... which I say I'm looking forward to his future projects once he finishes this series because it's just that damn good. So anyways my first impressions going into this was that it was interesting and I like the fact that the Uncle who is the main character of the story just got back from finishing his Isekai'd journey and still retained most of the powers ... and items he had, so most of the story is basically him telling his nephew, who he's living with, about his stories in his own charming way. It starts out a bit depressing and sometimes the uncle can be insufferable to some other people but as the chapters kept on rolling the stories started to become charming (The Elve), cute (Mabel), a bit Ecchi (Alicia), very comedic (The Uncle most of the time and also Edgar and Raiga) and can be very interesting as he tries to understand why he got Isekai'd and how he can come back to Japan.

Story 8: It's not a 9 or 10 but the fact that it makes you intrigued about the other world, also I haven't really touched the part where they're in the real world in Japan where he's telling his nephew, Takafumi and his nephew's love interest (C'mon man we all know it lol), Fujimiya and the real world is basically the real world, nothing interesting but it's nice to see that the uncle is trying to adjust with the 17 years of advancements Earth has made while he was in his comatose Isekai. So all together it builds a lot of interesting concepts here and I can see this becoming an easy 9 or hell even 10 in the future as the manga delves in more.

Art 10: I've been spoiled with awesome artwork and animation in a lot of mangas/animes I've read/watched before so it really makes me so picky with this score... but to answer your question yes this is one of those mangas with really good art work and really dives into the details. It can be awesome, cute, sexy, comedic, unique and just really pleasing to the eyes most of the time and best of all it really contributes to the story which is perfect.

Characters 9: There's only a few of them but they're all memorable and have the best chemistry with each other and no one seems to be out of place. If I can remember the names of all the characters named in this manga, then it basically did a good job on introducing them. The only reason it's not a perfect 10 is because it's not yet over and there's still some development to be had for some of the minorer (not a word but I have use it lol) characters who I hope to see more of in the future.

Enjoyment: 10 I'll be honest, I expected nothing with a title like that and thought I'll be reading another boring Isekai... and the next day I just caught up with the most recent chapter which is 35. So who knows, maybe you'll enjoy the crap out of this series like I did too or just be another series you gave only 4 chapters and dropped it before it's full potential is realized.

And that's overall a 9, I'll probably update more on this review in the future because I'm very eager to read the next chapter and I really want people to give the manga or anime (which it's getting) a chance.

The style and art itself further adds to the unique and enjotable nature of the series. The main character gives a fun subversion of previous tropes but in a fun spirited manner. You know how in some anime, they will have a recap episode? Where they just show bits of scenes that happened from the previous episode?

Now imagine you have a series, where a few characters watch a recap of what has happened previously. Except there is no "previous episode" where the scenes are taken from, so these bits of scenes are all we get. And the scenes are out of order. And this is the entirety of the series, just watching recap episodes.

This is Isekai Ojisan. This is all it is. The three characters, Ojisan, Takafumi, and Takafumi's childhood friend sit around a table watching these ... "recap episodes". The story never goes anywhere, because the story is literally just the Ojisan talking about things that previously happened, so it has nowhere to go.

The series is also interspersed with chapters that takes place entirely in the real world, but these aren't any better, because they typically just feel like filler and have no impact on the plot. Well that is sort of misleading, because that implies there is a plot in the first place, but you get the idea.

The humour is OK in the beginning, but it gets tiring hearing the same jokes over and over again. I like Sega as much as the next guy, but it already feels like the references have been run into the ground after a few volumes.

Everything that is interesting, all the best characters, only exist in these flashbacks. The story that you would want to actually read, happened before the story of the manga takes place. Honestly, the series would be 100 times better, if there was no real world stuff, and it started like any other isekai story, where the protagonist (Ojisan) gets transported to an isekai, and goes on adventures. And I'm saying that as a guy who has long been tired of trash isekai stories. The real world aspect is just so boring and serves no purpose.

It might sound like an interesting twist on the genre, but you actually have to do more with it. You can't just stop right there and keep doing the same thing over and over. No joke, you could read the first volume, then the most recent volume (7) and there would be almost no difference.

It's especially frustrating, because I think there is a decent manga somewhere in there, and it would be so easy to make more interesting. As an example, have the first couple volumes the same as they are, establish the characters and setting, have the Ojisan show some stuff that happened in the isekai. Cool. But then, how about some characters from the Isekai come into the real world, maybe chasing after Ojisan? Maybe similar to Hataraku Maou-sama? You good have some bad guys, or monsters or something come into the real world too, to create some antagonist or tension that the plot could use. You could instead maybe have a situation like that series GATE, where maybe the two worlds are connected or merge. You could even just have the girls come over and turn it into a romcom, and it would still be infinitely more interesting.
Or on the reverse, you could have Ojisan go back into the isekai, but maybe this time Takafumi goes with him. My point is, there are so many ways the manga could've been continued to create a much more enjoyable series.

In summary, this is a series that started with an interesting premise, but ultimately fails to do anything with it, leaving us with a boring story that goes nowhere, chapter after chapter. I do not recommend this series.
The elf girl is cute though.
