Synopsis

While on the run from an evil Atsunmo, the divine entity Myu desperately searches for someone worthy enough to become a magical girl and defeat the horrible monster. Just as the demon catches up to Myu, he spots a high school student who looks like the perfect candidate. Pretty hair, a kind face—she has it all. But to his surprise, seconds after Myu gives this student the abilities of a magical girl, she pulls a cigarette out of her pocket.

The girl, named Kayo Majiba, is actually an aggressive delinquent with an attitude that betrays her appearance. She has no problem taking out the Atsunmo, defeating it in just a single punch. However, Myu is now faced with a greater threat: Kayo herself. Nonetheless, it is Myu's duty to guide Kayo toward the path of defeating evil. But can he carry out his responsibility when there seems to be more to Kayo's tough demeanor than what meets the eye?

Most of the other reviews are short, were made based on only the first chapter, or didn't provide much information on what the series is actually like. It's still publishing (volume 7 is out, I've read up to volume 6) so I'll do my best to talk about it up to that point.

This is my first review, so please bear with me. May contain a few spoilers. Here we go!

Machimaho is an... interesting manga to say the least. It takes the standard tropes and stereotypes from magical girl manga and throws it into... another manga, except the main character, Kayo, is the worst magical girl imaginable.

The story of this manga isn't the best in the beginning, but towards the third volume, larger plot points are introduced that make the story more enjoyable.

this manga is trying to break mahou shoujo stereotypes by making the Main Character the opposite in personality compared to the averge prissy "kawaii" type. There is only one chapter as I write this but I fear this archetype may be a bit exaggerated. I personally found little about it to be memorable nor did I find myself checking for the next chapter. The mahou shoujo lane isn't necessarily competitive but there's just many.... familiar concepts being used, making it a pool almost too large to find anything worth while.
