Bottom Tier Character Tomozaki is what I expected Welcome to the NHK to be before I read it. I initially thought Welcome to the NHK was going to be about a man saved from his neet lifestyle and learning to slowly come out of his shell and become a functioning member of society by the end. The novel takes many genius turns and by the end proved to be much deeper than the simple “girl saves otaku nerd” story I thought it would. Bottom Tier Tomozaki is basically my first impressions of Welcome to the NHK turned into an actual series. The plot revolves around a  read more

Both contain the main character taking advice from other people (one person in Tomozaki-kun and anonymous people in online threads in Densha Otoko) to improve their self-image/appearance and confidence. Densha Otoko's more of a romance story featuring some self-improvement while Tomozaki-kun focuses on self-improvement as the core idea for the story.

Literally "losers" trying learning to become normies, while this series the FMC is sort of a otaku I think she doesn't really learn much from the MC while she teaches him just how to look like he's a normal human being and not some depressed lout
