Incredibly silly and weak episode. Cartoon expressions, shallow and inconsistent plot (the Japanese pilot who was ready to kill Lupin suddenly allies with him, and that's after he was deceived by him, too!), stereotypes and clichés (Lupin and his gang do not kill the antagonist, but they easily kill secondary characters and sharks!). And Pops acted especially stupidly this time, well, most of the characters did

The villain says the pilot got his nuclear bomb "25 years ago"...wouldn't that mean this episode happens in 1970? ...not to mention that the pilot has supposedly been sitting on this island the whole time, and not anywhere near Japan...or was it supposed to have been a post-war nuclear weapons test?

I know it's being silly what with the guy catching the bomb in a comical cartoon butterfly net, but there's not even a small baseline of logic here.

Similarly, if the treasure island is marked by that huge red cross, why wouldn't anyone with aircraft, like the villain, just have looked for it themselves?

So yeah, this is a weird and kind of awful episode.

In which, while searching for Captain Cook's treasure, Lupin encounters a Japanese fighter pilot who still thinks the war is going on! Pretty weird episode, the mix of goofy scenes like the pilot catching an atomic bomb with a butterfly net didn't mesh too well with the more serious plot. Scenes like just letting the bad guy go and Zenigata's immense plot induced stupidity were pretty weak as well. Still, being the sentimental guy I am I couldn't help but enjoy the sweet ending with Lupin and Fujiko staring up together at the night stars:

And Jigen's cute reaction:

Somewhat serious tone there at the end. Some treasures you just leave alone.

Haha someone named Samejima using sharks as "pet"
Good joke xD

The entire scene with Fujiko screaming (with her face too)
And Lupin said "Don't bother with me, don't listen to that guy"
Kinda hilarious

Kinda feel bad for soldier who fought for Japan
I guess some of them kinda bad people too
But we'll never know the truth since history is written by the victor

That man followed his orders until he met someone he knew, and couldn't keep on lying to himself, finally accepting that the war was over. It's kind of sad that he decided to stay there to die, but who knows? Maybe he had no one waiting for him. It was kind of silly and inconsistent though, at least Fujiko and Lupin shared a nice moment gazing at the stars, and Jigen's reaction to it was funny. xD

I actually liked this because they took the cartoon logic to such extreme levels. Catching the bomb with a net, destroying jet fighters with a shot from a balloon or with thrown coconuts, shark pool in an aircraft carrier.

Some nice musical cues too. In addition to normal jazz, when they met the Japanese soldier we heard a marching band tune. It sounded like old-fashioned enka, reminding me of the theme from the 1960 film Mutekiga ore o yonderu. Not the same, but the style (scale used and instrumentation) is similar. As the soldier's tale went on, the theme was then played with a more modern Korg or Hammond organ, indicating the transition to the present. The electric organ also implied that this indeed could be 1970, as the sound would have been considered somewhat old-fashioned by the time this episode was aired.
