I think I might drop this series.

I mean, its a good show, but I just don't find someone this unhappy entertaining to watch.

I can't relate to it, because no one on earth is this impossibly masochistic and borderline suicidal without showing others around her or actually killing themselves.

I wont downrate the show or shit talk it, but I do question how people can find the cringe parts funny unless they just need someone worse off than themselves to laugh at.
Shes not a masochist. If she was she would enjoy being hurt and make it happen intentionally. Actually a lot of people dont make it that obvious they are down but since they dont show you obviously wouldnt know unless they told you. I know plenty of people who have been miserable as her who havent killed themselves yet, like me. :p

In short Mokocchi is a awkward & unpopular girl xD
He/she just doesn't know yet the beauty of this series :)

She's not just unpopular.

She threatened to kill herself because her brother wouldn't talk to her in episode 1.

For every "I'm going to take a dump outside that bathroom" joke that makes me laugh, there are 3 scenes where I'm just baffled as to how self hating and borderline suicide can be seen as funny.

If you feel the way the girl in this anime feels, please find help.

Edit:

Also, its really lame when people (happens a lot on mal) who cant find friends due to their failures as people or their shy personalities try to blame everyone else.

If you can't make friends, its not because everyone else is stupid or wrong. It's because you are an asshat.

I watch this 3 times and I still like it very much. Even thou it was not funny after watching several times, but watching cute Tomoko walking around will just make me happy, and the voice acting is worth remembered for a life time .

The voice acting is in fact amazing.

It's not your senses of humor.

This anime is a gary sue anime, just like Sword Art Online.

You all want to secretly think that its not your fault that you are anti social. That its all because everyone else is judgemental and mean.

You can easily relate to someone like the girl in this series who has no friends.

My issue is that its way beyond any realm of believability. The show is almost laughably over dramatic at times.

If I wanted to watch someone be unhappy, I wouldn't be watching cartoons, I'd watch some emo music videos or something.

That's why this is a cringe comedy. The very fact that it makes you uneasy is also the fun part. However, it works best if you can relate to it. Sicne you can't, I can see why you don't seem to 'get' it.

If you feel the way the girl in this anime feels, please find help.

This I can agree with. Tomoko needs help, but unless she realizes this herself and asks her parents, I don't think anyone is going to come forward and give her a push in the right direction.

I don't fully agree with this. As we've seen so far, Tomoko is cynical and bitter, but she's not an 'asshat', as she doesn't openly tell people to drop dead or whatever. And what she thinks may not be how she truly thinks about them, it;s merely a defense mechanism to make them seem lower than her. It's probably the only thing that keeps her from slipping into complete depression.

And besides, she does have ONE friend. One that used to be similar to her, but is now a completely different person. I don't see any reason why Tomoko herself couldn't eventually end up like that as well.

Actually most loner choose to become such, I don't think they blame the public. I know I don't do such..Anyway, you are generalizing everyone who like this Anime THINK as such. Which is not good ...
Beside coward Tomoko only blame people on her own mind only, she never say it out loud in front of them. She is basically harmless. Unlike Hachiman
I don't think this is even call blame people, this is more like making her own conclusion in her mind just to make herself feel good .Not much different to masturbating xD

Thats why i dont want to watch shows that remind me of it.

Seeing someone else unhappy wont make me happy.

That said the production quality, music, and voice work are all amazing.

Subjectively i'm considering dropping the series, but it is still one of the best of the season.

She has an awesome dad. But poor Tomoko, this episode was really cruel to her... just like every before. :D She reminds me so much of me. Aside from the otome games obsession. I don't have money for that and my parents have a theory that unless something is important according to them, I don't need it.

Is it weird that I find all the shit that happens to her funny and yet most of it has happened to me? Damn, I really need to do something with my life.

But the people around Tomoko aren't judgmental and mean. Can you name one example of such? The closest thing is her brother but he only gets angry when Tomoko does does outrageous or casually invades his privacy (he's a teenager, remember), and he tends to soften considerably if she's pathetic enough. Heck, in Yuu Tomoko has a devoted and loving friend but instead of appreciating this she's jealous that Yuu's become pretty and has a boyfriend.

The title of the series, blaming others for Tomoko's lack of popularity, is ironic. The series is out how she makes herself unpopular and unhappy.

Mentioning the manga is cheating, but maybe the anime will get to this point; Tomoko's classmates start to have a marginally larger role later on, and they're all actually pretty friendly.

You mean the part that she gave her brother a vibrator that has been used.

Not a vibrator, is a massage device. It even shows the lapel in the anime. The thing just became popular for lewd things because the porn industry took it and used it in a lot of films for clitoris stimulation(no it isn't inserted).

I don't even know what to think about this anime.

On one level, some scenes are hilarious and the main character is adorable.

On another level, some scenes make me absolutely HATE her. Some of the things she does just makes me cringe at how "no one could be THIS much of a social retard." (Or an idiot in general. I mean really? Falling asleep to an eroge with a massager in your hand? REALLY?)

Its a good show, for me a decent 7/10, and I can see it going up if the main character just goes from "Socially inept idiot" to "Socially inept", but for now the amount of cringing and facepalming just keep it down, sometimes to the point that I literally look away from the screen because of how embarrassed I am for her.

Its a really weird feeling. I've been happy for characters, sad for characters, angry for characters. But I have never been embarrassed of them until this anime came around.
Me on scoring anime with a 1:

It is actually very common to be molested on the train in Japan. If you search on google terms like "molestation Japan," you will get all kinds of results that show how prevalent groping is on trains. And what makes it worse is that the people doing the molesting get little to no punishment (only recently has there been any kind of punishment).

This fact is what makes this episode very uncomfortable for me. Molestation is a huge issue in Japan, and how Tomoko felt during that train scene is what numerous Japanese girls feel when they are actually molested. They silently call for help, they try to leave the train, but many times to no avail. Knowing the facts makes this episode, or the train scene to be exact, much less funny.

It's all society bullshit though. In the west countries is not easy to molest because a woman will just turn and smack you in the face and probably start shouting too but in Japan they have this "don't disrupt others" bullshit to the extreme and for some reason they feel like it's not correct to cause trouble. Very strange shit.
On the other hand this thing IS exaggerated when we hear about it. No it's not happening as much as we thing by watching anime and seeing japanophile sites and also there is the other side where many men get their lives ruined by false accusations ether deliberately or by the woman making a mistake. It's an absurd theme that we can see even in the west where a woman yells to have been a victim of sexual assault and the man is being seen as guilty even before trial or without evidence because there is this notion that men are always this wild predators while women are angelic little lamps that can have no evil in them when it comes to such matters.
In Japan where shame is the absolute worse and every little detail is looked a man accused of something even if proven innocent has his life ruined and they usually commit suicides.

Second that

The episode isnt saying its something to be wished for it showed Tomoko in her mindset of trying to make herself feel better because she attributed unwanted attention from guys as attention still and she craved attention. When youre really insecure you can get jealous for all kinds of strange things. You can be annoyed at Tomoko for being dumb but not the episode because that would be overreacting. She also learned her lesson if you didn't pay attention to her reaction at all.

Arent you overlooking the fact that japanese are crammed into trains like canned sardines at peak hours in tokyo sometimes? In the US youre never that confined and Ive rode the subway in New York before so Ive seen even in a high population area there they dont get that full. Just look on youtube of any japanese train and you see during busy hours sometimes people get shoved into the train and backed in falling out from it while attendants try to shove them in so they fit when they dont. being so full and no one has room to move. If youre that close to someone no one can see whows doing what and even a slight impulse to touch someone could be acted on since it only takes a subtle hand movement to do it in some cases. So its not exactly only that they are timid its that they cant do anything much except say something. Even if they say something others around them can be so pushed together even they have trouble telling whos doing what. I could imagine that has a large impact on whether someone says something or not. On a less full train soemone would be less likely to molest and a victim might be more likely to do something although i cant provide any exmaples. Of course youre right on the making mistakes part since that could happen easily either guessing wrong person or mistaking a person accidently reaching for something and unintentionally touching someone else.

I remember once talking to a guy who said he accidental bumped into a girl he walked by at the street because she and her friends blocked the sidewalk entirely walking by and didnt get out of his way as they passed and she called him a pervert and said he groped her.
