THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------

The episode looked good tbh with a talk between Araragi and Tsukihi. Perfect slumbers is also a good song imo. I lol'd @ the talk about "H-san". Oh the humor. I'm glad to see Karen's ponytail hair back in this episode. Nice.

That encounter between Araragi and Hanekawa was an amusing watch. Dat black panties and bitch slap. 5/5.

Koyomi and Tsukihi talking about oppai. Then, Karen comes in all sweaty and stripping off her top. Nice way to start this, lol.

Gotta love how the atmosphere changed completely after Hanekawa said she'll do anything. That OST is just too cool.

Episode material was alright, I figure it'll improve with more Hanekawa as it progresses (as things often improve with more Hanekawa), but I've given up on Shinbo's "experimental" style that he's been using for this franchise.

It's awful, and no one wants to be the one to tell him. If the dialogue is good, which everyone seems to claim it is (and sometimes it is that good), then you don't need to spice it up with stills of random objects and outlandish head positioning &c. Let the story tell itself, for god's sake.

This is why I prefer the novels to the anime. SHAFT makes the series seem very silly and ridiculous with the shit they do.

It's because this anime is dialogue-heavy that it need those quirky visuals, or do you want scenes with only character's face and their moving lip instead ? I believe Shinbo's style is much needed for this show.

And they made it one of the best selling anime too. Hate it or not, their style worked for this anime.

Just finished this episode.
Confirmed best anime ever.
This episode alone was better than the entirety of Bakemonogatari and Nisemonogatari, which is quite an accomplishment seeing as how they are both masterpieces themselves.
Let's go Commie! Those of us who can't understand moonspeak are counting on you! I vow to not get any sleep until each episode is subbed.

I like the animations Shaft have done as well. Sometimes they seem kind of weird but it also makes it stand out from all the thousands of anime out there too. Also you can watch the raw version online anywhere, but I don't think the subbed is out yet.

If they played it straight all you would have is talking heads which would be boring as hell. You might as well just listen to a drama CD. The visuals work for this show and really do add to the dialog. For instance watch where the crowbar is during the bed part. Also I loved the little bits where they flick to other images, eg the talking dog.

I didn't imagine SHAFT would be so influential today. So epoch-making as Ghibli. I'm glad quality of TV anime was drastically improved.

"If looking at their face makes you want to have their babies, you're in love with them. It's that simple." Well said Karen.

I think the first conversation with Tsukihi was kinda boring but I loved the rest, Always nice to get some more from the Monogatari series animated.

More tedious fan service for the sake of it. I knew that after the phenomenal commercial success of Nisemonogatari the chances were slim to nonexistent that the series would return to its more toned down and character-driven Bakamonogatari roots but it still somewhat pains me to see what it has become, especially when they used the track from Bakemonogatari in the last scene which was like an echo of its former quality.

If you don't like service then you should stop watching the series. Bakemono is the tamest of the novels by a large margin.

You should probably just buy some lotion and get over it.

This and ErunnoToo do you mean that because they add some ecchi scenes between the dialogues the quality somehow dropped?

Like it or dislike it, it's naturally just a matter of taste. However, objectively speaking, the -monogatari anime series has a unique style that really stands out, whether it be the art style, the music, the pacing, etc. Of course some people won't like it. But I personnally think the constant weird stills and head tilts and such give an interesting rythm to the story. I also think it matches the novels well. The surreal, absurd backgrounds are also to my liking as I feel they efficiently set the mood.
Also, there really aren't that many characters with a similar personnality to Araragi-kun: heroic, realistically perverted, somewhat dark with the funniest internal monologues.
