THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
MORE CRAZY STUFF. First thing THE REALLY SCREWED THE OP! I know the BS about Hell theme and all BUT the ecchi CRAP IS IN 100%. Now we will all have at a least a naked scene of Yuzuki and Enma Ai as well as YURI KISSING.

THIS IS A NIGHTMARE worse than those KNIGHTMARES FROM CG.

I DO LIKE TH BASTARD WHO WENT TO HELL! Physical abuse of the store clerk. EVEN IF HE was her boyfriend...YOU DO NOT FUC**** HIT A WOMEN EVER! ANY OF YOU DO IT I CURSE THEM! I PROMISE THIS TO YOU! Good riddance cause I would myself kill him.

The killing should have been done by the boy instead of selling his soul. STUPID KID! At least GOD WOULD FORGIVE for such but NOW he is going to be fuc*** by demons. THEY LOVE BOYS LIKE HIM. BTW when you do a contract most of the time you go as you were when you died but because of the contract they will revert as being that boy.

So the old man in the 1st season that dies at the end of his life and goes down to hell cause of his price but remains in same form.........not for this boy. I know I HAVE 10 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN DEMONOLOGY. Guess I am saying some private things about me but hey I LOVE THIS PLACE!

On top of that there are like at least 3 to 4 sexual references that were AT LEAST NOT NOTICABLE in previous season but this time they made them obvious! TRUST ME GUYS I have watched the seasons before at least 2 to three times each. NEVER have I noticed such ecchiness in them. GUESS HENTAI FANS OF JIGOKU SHOUJO GOT THEIR CALL! LOL........I did see the hentai of this anime (CURIOSITY) so I know.

HIGHLIGHTS

NOW WE WILL ALL SEE THIS IN EVERY OP UNLESS THEY CHANGE IT MID-WAY.

The FIRST PIC IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ONE OF THE OP. The other one
FREAKED ME OUT cause the picture burns after you see it and you see
Jigoku Shoujo----------->MEANS SHE WILL TAKE ALL OF YUZUKI'S FRIENDS.
Means go into Devil religion and you lose many of your friends. TRUST I KNOW WENT THROUGH IT!

More proofs of THEM GOING ECCHI IN THIS SERIES. The popsicle reminded me
literally of Yuzuki performing a blowjob. THIS IS NO JOKE. Also focus on ass and cleavage.

Torture leads the GUY INTO HELL! LOL AT HIS PUNISHMENT!

BTW if no one noticed the boy does LOVE HER..why else who they have a focus on her cleavage when the boy was looking at her. So he is one of those boys who are featured in Straight Shota.......hmmmmmmmmmm well he can do it now cause HE IS GOING TO HELL! :P

No I did not imagine, it's just the way they portrait it and it was also done in Nogizaka Haruka 's Secret in #4 the Mika date.

Well, the new animation in the beginning makes this look yuri. Other than that, I don't think it has become ecchi. Yes, this episode was RATHER ecchi (compared to what's shown in other anime that I've seen, this show isn't anywhere near ecchi).

Anyways, can anyone explain the ending? I get most of episode without subs (ha, I've learned too much Japanese through anime >.<), but it was the ending I didn't get. It didn't really explained what happened to her.... other than that she disappeared (why though?)

@angel: No offense, but I think you are overreacting. If this show is ecchi, then most other anime shows must be hardcore hentai to you then.

Thanks, person who gave me this on another site a long time ago, lol.

hehe i agree it is a bit more daring than the last 2 seasons.. but we won't know if the director is really making an 'ecchi' portrayal until later in the series..

i was a bit shocked after watching the 2nd episode tho.. the wife is too damn hot, and that boy looks really lustful. haha..

u mean the first episode? who do u refer to when u say 'her'? if u mean enma, she turned human in the second season, and must have lost her physical body to natural aging, so now she doesnt have a physical body and has to move around in the form of a butterfly.. but by entering yuzuki's body, she now has a body.. dont really understand why tho.. wanyuudou said 'izure wakaru koto darou',meaning we should get the answer near the end of the series..
if u mean the wife, i think she just ran away.. i think she loved her husband, just didnt expect him to be so possesive ^^;

I meant the wife. I just heard "keshita", which meant "disappeared". I just think it's weird why she would run away... although maybe it's because she realized having a relationship with a young boy just seems too weird.

You might find this one worse than the previous two, but I like it a lot. Since now jigoku shoujo presents the opposite perspective and it is sth like "everything is not what u see and what u think." blah blah... I am still looking for the idea behind each episode of this anime rather than complaining about some "ecchi" thing or yuri scene you mention. I think you can neglect those scene if you dont like it.

Well, the narrator says " Yoku asa, denkiya no oku-san wa, sugata o keshiteita" which translates into "The next moring, the electronics store's shopkeeper (wife?) erased her appearance." So yeah, they meant what they said and kept it at that, meaning to keep us (as well as Akira) in the dark as to what exactly happened to her.

My guess is that she is like a lot of woman who goes through domestic abuse and that she puts up with that bullshit because she inexplicably loves her abuser despite what he's doing to her. Unfortunately for Akira, he hasn't intervened at the time when her harsh experience has completely overtaken whatever tender moments that made her fall for that guy in the first place.

And please, are we really that afraid of the human form in its natural state, or two girls or two guys kissing? Let's grow up a little, people.

Perhaps someone with some typesetting experience can turn that translation into a sub file timed to an HD raw.. sounds fun.

Jigoku Shoujo is really meant for adults, so i guess the staff of Jigoku Shoujo turned the heat on. Seriously, when I saw Ai kissing yuzuki on the preview, I was shocked, anyways, there are more sexual reference this time which may mean that there would be no more 4th season. that would just explain the extreme sexual reference.

anyways, it happened on the first episode two, the part when ren saw the naked boy in the bath (forgot his name) then a close up occured in the cup? covering his... you know what.

Why does everyone keep describing the sexual references as if this anime has turned hentai? The sexual references so far are no where near hentai, or even ecchi, for that matter.

Felt bad for the lady. Would have liked to get the abusive husbands side of the story but well who cares. This is a pretty interesting show, better then some other stuff. I also like the OP of this show, compared with a few other animes out there. Hopefully they keep up with the interesting grudges and storyline. I do wonder though what will happen with that hell girl, whatever her real name is. Hopefully this show won't disappoint.

Agreed, this is nothing near hentai and the point of showing that is to described the story plot and characters into a deeper level to make it more effect. I was actually surprised there when they show that scene around @4:34 BUT later I can understand why it was shown in that direction. To say it is going to be an ECCHI anime is totally wrong.

Well there are just a few people here like angel999 who are overreacting over something like this because... well maybe he couldn't handle it, I guess.

i swear no one will ever eat a popcicle or icecram or anything you have to lick without any induendo. anyone who things that there was anything ecchi in this episode has been seeing a bit too much porn/hentai.

it looks like this might be the last season for this show. maybe. they might finaly bring a conclusion to this whole ordea.

it is still not clear if the contracts that hell girl undergoes would still be binding if she was to be released from her punishment.

Not really, I think that it's quite strongly hinted by the creators of the show since the first time I saw a Jigoku Shoujo episode 3 years ago. Every episode, you see either Enma Ai or another character licking a strawberry or a popcicle, when you see it 50 times, you begin to think there's probably more to it...

Apart from that, this episode was far weaker than the first one animation and plot-wise, and much more "normal". The bad guy dies in the end and everything is pretty much resolved with a bittersweet ending like in most other episodes. So, not that interesting episode, I expect better for the third ;)

-Where do you think Itsuko sensei went? "To Hell...I mean Hawaii!"

-The three amigos? Funny they dont look Hispanic.

-Seriously kid stop ogling the store manager, how old are you anyway?

-Ok seriously, I know the economy isnt that great but its just 1 yen!

-www.hell.com now hosted on google.

-Wait they have to know the guy's name? That never stopped the girl in episode 2 of season 2. (One where the guy killed her sister, had lots of bubbles.)

-Oh no, now I can see into little boy's bedrooms!

-The Hellboy's Club...because competition is good...even if they dont have website and dark powers.

-*Hits them with a broom* "Try dying this once." Ai show up. "Thats my line!"

-Hell Correspondence, Ebay can give you what you want in 24 hours, we can do it in 24 seconds.

-Ai plays soccer?!?

-Trust me girl, what that woman is going through is NOT a form of love.

-What does that guy work across the street or something? How did he get there so fast?

-Yuzuki a string has been pulled. *Transformation scene* "Oh damn not again!"

-Ai: "Its time to play soccer and send people to hell, and im all out of soccer balls."

-Thats one hell of a microwave plug...guess where it goes in?

-"Be sure to value electricity." My name is Princess Kikuri and I approve this message.

Post Episode Comments:

Wow and now we are back to the psychological hardcore stuff. Also did anyone else mistake Akira for the guy at the end of season 2 (the so called "devil's child") at first sight? We do get some explanation on Ai's need to use Yuzuki as a host, and we also learned that Enma can play soccer. Anyway this series isnt exactly breaking new ground but it doesnt need to, it just needs to keep doing what it has always done, being creepy and yet charming.

Verdict:

Wife beater needs to go to hell. (Though I admit maybe the power chords were a bit much and didnt seem to fit well with his crime, unless its supposed to symbolize the pressure he was putting on his wife or something like that.) Of course the interesting thing is that the wife did not act rationally which is realistic for victims of domestic abuse. Of course the real question is, did she kill herself or just run off somewhere?

Haha, love your commentary XD I laughed when that girl said that, esp how she said it. But hey, how does she know Ai's line? You shouldn't hear it unless you were being sent to Hell

The Hell Boy Club is just random, and vaguely funny..

Is it just me, or are they coming up with more bizzare and random sending ppl to Hell scenes? Ai looked really cute with pigtails. Wish there's a better shot of it...

They do explain more, but it's still more of the same old, which I'm kind of disappointed with. Also, is it just me, or does Ai sound a little older/more mature during her explanation? Speaking of which, do you think they record those lines every single episode, or have her say them once and use it in every ep?

Ah, pulling an MST3K on it...I do that nearly all the time (well, when I'm watching stuff with my brother).

well, one thing I'm pleased to see that this season has from the get go is an ongoing plot (which in the first two seasons took a few episodes to appear). Also the punishment before hell bit was interesting, one things for sure though....Jigoku SHoujo is good for the nightmare fuel!

Hmm, now that I think about it, the "Wont you try dying this once" line sounds the same in every episode so its hard to believe that it isnt the same recording. Either way I dont care, it still sends shivers up my spine.

They need to bring MST3K back or at least something like it, the Sci-Fi channel and even most of the horror movies today would bring endless fodder ^_^.

A lot of fanservice from this season...

Though I really liked Jigoku Shoujo as a serious anime with less fanservice...
I hope that the next episodes would have less fanservice...
(Maybe it's because of the new director)

This episode is really twisted... but I liked it!
I hate men who say they love their wife but hit them... screw you, man!!!

But I also felt annoyed at the woman... why did she let herself be mistreated? Have some dignity, woman!!!

And I feel that when I see that transformation scene again, it'll get really tiring...

Yeah I saw this subbed for the second and let me tell THE KID WAS STUPID! I would have tazed the SOB and get rid of him myself.

MORE IMPORTANTLY.....THE KID should have put his nose where does not belong. Both of them were adults therefore MORE MATURE than him. He thinks......Oh I will her so it will be good.........GUESS what boy, YOU GOT BS from her.....cause she disappeared and your lust is also gone since that girl it is for is GONE! I think i get it, basicly he had obsessive love for her to the point that he took over her too much and controlled her and im not sure what she felt for him though. Maybe she loved him or maybe it had something to do with the store itself. As for the kid, i dont think she had a thing for him and if she did it was probably because he reminded her of someone.

Oh god, if you desperately wanna see things in an ecchi way then you're the one who's fucked up, seriously. There are esthetical aspects, too. Some people think they're smart when they can't even grasp the meanings at all, this is not your children's anime. Ah here we go again, I was actually gonna ignore all this overreacting crap.

Decent episode, we're still only in the prelude. I'm sure we'll get into the heavier stuff soon. The end was a bit too open, I would've liked to know the exact reason why the phone kept ringing.

totally agree with you here. Everything you pointed out I noticed too about the ecchi scenes and fan service. I mean it literally zoomed up to the end of the popsicle when she was eating it. I mean yeah okay, ai licks cherries and what not, but somehow season 3 has gotten worse, perverted scenes-wise and storyline-wise.

I'm kinda disappointed that people aren't being more thoughtful about this episode. The way I saw it, it was implied that the wife was a masochist and enjoyed having her husband abuse her. That's why she wasn't happy at all when her husband disappeared. The kid was the bad guy here, for killing the husband who was giving his wife exactly what she wanted.

HOLY CRAP!! you were thinking exactly what i was! it's really sad; the kid thought he was doing her a favor. and he gives up his soul for the wrong assumption, about a boyhood crush. it's really tragic!

i have to admit that i'm really annoyed by people screaming about there being too much ecchi. can you guys maintain any maturity? i mean, really, who CARES? there's deeper stuff going on and it's pretty sad that you're so distracted by hintings of ecchi (which i don't even notice because they're so inconsequential) that you can't even discuss it properly.

ugh I get so mad when people don't listen other people and that person that he/she didn't heard had the reason.Like she totaly had the reason when she said he shouldn't do anthing but there he goes. For what I see the woman loved the man just that she didn't liked what he did to her. Anyways the boy will go to hell. So sad.I mean I know the show is about that and that it has a deeper meaning but it's just so sad that people don't listen and end up ruining their lifes because the thruth is that if you make something like that you will never forget what you did, it will be always in your mind and you will live with the fear of dying some day.

Ok, to start with, the OP is just great. It’s the best thing this anime has shown this far. It moves me a lot. Next. Either my definition is wrong, or the art is changed a lot! It’s like I’m taking glimpse on anime from the 80’s or the 90’s.
When the two classmates got slapped by that girl, her words made laugh. Whoah, such a good memories from Futukamori.
The footballer Ai Enma thrilled me :X
And then the punishment was thrilling. It's nothing like season 1 punishment(it's not like 1st ep was anything like s1, but still), and Ai's kimono is really horrible, but I didn't pay much attention to it this time. The ep was nothing special, but it was better then the previous one. And no echi refferences(or at least not that much), so it was OK.
So, OP, ED and the OST generally are really good, they're not disappointing at all.

Quite nice episode, story was quite heavy for the second episode but the plot was like usual "bad guy, get's banned by someone he hates, gets the punishment he inflicted on others, and than get's banished to hell"

Was a nice episode though and it has both nice OP and ED!

The husband loves his wife, but was hurting her, while thinking it's for her own good. The wife on the other hand, she seem to except the beating or she's either a masochist.

I wonder why the woman left. I came up with a few theories:
- husband is gone
- age difference's between her and the boy

After going straight into this from the first and second season, I don't know how people could watch this without noticing the blatantly obvious increase of sexual innuendos. You'd have to either be brain-dead or eight years old to not notice it.

They've even covered the OP with sexually suggestive imagery and put lots of stuffed-animals into it for no good reason whatsoever.

Whenever the girl was trying to convince the boy not to go through with the contract at the playground, they injected quite a few unnecessary scenes, such as the slide scene that just barely avoided a panty shot, and the water fountain scene(s).

These are all small things to complain about, but they have a high-potential of ruining the experience of the third season for me. I liked the first & second seasons cause they felt very mature (by anime standards), and sexual innuendos were very rare (if they even existed at all). The general atmosphere of Jigoku Shoujo is becoming tainted by the excessive amounts of innuendos and over-done revenge scenes.

I've noticed two positive improvements in the third season though. The animation seems to have improved considerably, with more frames being drawn and more realistic movements. Also, the transformation scene was pretty epic, but it's going to get old fast if they don't slowly phase it out like they did with the contract explanations in previous seasons.

EDIT: After watching more of season three, the sexual innuendos do become much less common and most of the minor annoyances can mostly be overlooked.

If you're thinking the same things I was, my advice is to just keep watching, because it isn't fair to judge the entire season after two episodes.
