THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
She knew that all three's theories are bad, and she expected about the guy denying their theories. She wanted him to solve the mystery for good. He accepted.

lol @ his friend's optimistic "denial" to himself. No Chitanda today. Childhood girl hinted about boreness of the film, bad filming, etc.

lol his friend got extra class but skipped!! So he's on his own. He keeps watching it for the clue and got it?

Key point is the room(s) (there are two?) and there are 7th person? + with his friend's notes of suspicious points,... no flashlights. So cameraman is the 7th (as first person point of view)... according to "bad filming". He got master key when not filming... and no detective role. She approved his point. She also asked for a title, and he said the title for this ep.

The film is aired got the audiences excited about the last scene. Even the three of them approved him. Childhood girl sensed a mistake?

Wha...?!?! Oreki failed?! Damn it. Need moar Eru and Sawakiguchi! A lot of Irisu is not bad though. Oreki failed Chitanda... She was so disappointed. :/ They are not that surprised because it's not the truth.

Btw what's with Satoshi being jealous to Oreki? Guess there will be some drama in the future episodes.

Ahh..Oreki..I don't even...

Hongou wanted a rope that would be able to hold the weight of single person to be worked into the film, but it never was. That's where Houtarou went wrong, the conclusion that he thought of didn't include it anywhere in the movie. And since Hongou is the only one who really knows how the mystery is suppose to go about (I think) that just adds to become another reason towards why he was wrong.

Conclusion did not have Rope = Wrong.

The prop master said the writer told him to get a rope that someone can hang off on and would not break. Houtarou solution ignored this point that is why she questioned him about the rope.

Mm, interesting episode.

Looks like Oreki fucked something up this time around. Also, wondering what Eru was going to tell the group.

Anyways, one thing I learned..this episode:

Yeah, I thought so too. Even Oreki has got wrong valid this time.

So next time I think he's going to meet Haba there.

I kind of agree that there must be the seventh character since Sawakiguchi mentioned it.

But the rope, yeah, Houtarou forgot that.

Orekis explanation sounded pretty solid and the prep guy was a dick, so I'd just say fuck whatever he said. Maybe he was trying to trick Oreki or anything. But well, more probably is that we're getting an even bigger twist, I'm fine either way.

Great episode after the bit weaker one last week

just like the previous arc, when I thought they will conclude the arc, there were still some mysteries left (the biggest mystery is how Eba will do in all of this though)... and i actually got kind of uneasy because of the bgm at the end of the ep! I did the same face as Oreki! I like this episode! I wonder if Chitanda wanted to ask about the rope too, or not?
and I like how they are doing some satoshi development! :) they broke his poker face!!

wow, i DID not expect that seventh person cameraman at all O.o

that WOULD have been such a twist of an ending...
until it turns out that houtatou was wrong????

i completely forgot about the rope, too. now houtarou has to start from scratch to find the "true" ending involving that rope
(despite the fact that the ending houtarou came up with was genius as it was already, never thought it could've been such a simple possibility)

and something's really fishy about satoshi towards the beginning (jealousy??? )

also, eru and mayaka TO ME were kinda harsh with houtarou at the end; after coming up with that theory by himself, cut the guy some slack

looks like haba's gonna have a bigger part in next week's episode, too, to wrap this mystery and arc up, can't wait!!!

Have to admit this episode caught me by surprised. The presence of a seventh person was pretty obvious, but it was really interesting how Oreki explained why it was him. Still before the last 4 minutes of the episode, i was thinking how this ark was good, but still weak compared to the first arc. But when Mayaka mentioned the rope, a big "Oh Shit" sign popped up, making this episode go from good to great imo. Can't wait to see how it concludes.

Why didn't goku ask the dragon balls to wish that all villains in the universe just died, or that him and his friends can be all powerful gods?

Why didn't misaki from Kaichou wa Maid-sama! just come out and tell everyone she is a maid and worked it out?

Why didn't lelouch just walk up to the emperor and tell him to kill himself, or just take advantage his powers quicker?

Why didn't inuyasha and kogome take better care of the jewel shards and instead lost them after every ten episodes?

They all had there reasons for not doing what they did and if you want to enjoy watching anime you should just learn to understand that there may be unforeseen reasons for characters actions and just go with it.

Once again, why couldn't they just ask the writer? I kinda thought that the whole charade was a test to see if it was possible to solve the mystery from the viewers' perspective, and thus Irisu knew all along what was the solution... But alas, that wasn't the case.

Anyway, it's not that Houtarou was mistaken, but rather that he didn't uncover the whole case, like in the first arc when he had just partially solved Eru's uncle mystery.

Still, no wonder Haba was pissed, it seemed as if Houtarou had intentionally ignored his input.

I've been trying to figure out this mystery for a while during my free time and i still can't grab all the clues out of the video. Granted, Just because a prop was not used does not mean that the mystery is incorrect, it just means it was not the exact mystery the creator imagined.

I do not think that the 7th person exists currently because if there was a 7th person then he would have traveled in a pair of two like the two groups that traveled to the second floor did. Additionally the character would have also been seen from the second floor window even if he initially didn't travel to a search destination.

There are a few possibilities from what I can see.
1) The boy who could have seen the lobby from the second floor could have done it because if he did it there would have been no other site on the lobby.
2) The Girl who suggested to keep the master key in the lobby did it because this allowed the murder to take place, Additionally, she could have snatched the key at this point and no one would have known the better. She was also the first person to leave to grab the key once they realized that the door was locked (this also allows for the possibility that the second girl who followed the person to get the master key is a suspect).
3) Lastly, The killer is still somehow in the room. The master key did not need to be fetched if the killer killed the man in the room as the door was open and locked the door with the key that was used to open the door in the first place, meaning the master key had no impact on the murder.

There are also a few details that have been perplexing me.
1) The arm was cut off of the body. There was not much blood needed for the movie so I do not know if this was actually intentional by the author but it seems suspicious to me. Though this did throw out the possibility of suicide.
2) The rope. As with most of us, I have very little idea of why this was needed. My best guess is that it was needed to hold a prop up or something. For the killer to have used the rope he would have needed it to be on his person when they entered the building. Not all of the actors could have had a rope on their person when they entered or the 7th man could have been hanging himself from the ceiling.
3) The Locked door. Why would the door need to be locked? The murder was already done and no one would have questioned a open door. This brings me back to the master key fetching theory of mine where they needed an excuse to go back to fetch the key.

When deciphering magic you need to be keen on every detail, not only the details that are meant to be shown. The seemingly meaningless things have the utmost important meaning. Mystery is much like Magic in this regard. I hope you all found this useful and I can't wait to discover the truth of this mystery.

because the writer is sick with some unknown illness that does not allow her to be contacted.. she might be in a hospital and unconscious, or at home with overworrying parents who wouldn't let her out or use a phone.. heck, i don't know.. deal with it..

kuh.. people are quick to find possible plot holes and spend less time building the answers to their questions if it is even possible.. still, the creator is also to be blamed for making use of questionable/overconvenient plot elements..

Actually, in the episode, when Mayaka points out that they didn't use the rope, in the corner of the screen it says "Why didn't she ask Eba?" which kinda made me think that they were gonna explain that too.

There is a lot of stuff going on between Oreki and Satoshi, jealousy is a new part and I hope we will see a lot more of their conversations.

I don't care about the rope, Hongou changed the script and that's it? Haba could've lied on top of that, I wouldn't trust him.

Well seeing how the 7th character was depressed no one cared about him, maybe he was going to hang himself, and then Oreki conclusion would have been correct, it was just not complete.
or the 7th was goin to make it look like the victim commited sucide, but something went wrong and the vic's arm was cut off,(don't how it was cut off)
or using Solovki (entry 18) idea: if the boy who could see the lobby, used the rope to climb down, b/c i would assume that he would have to pass through a hall way that somewould of seen him, he would've climbed down, and took the key [or not] and killed him, this would explain why they used that angle, to film it, b/c then you would see the the height of the window, but this won't really fit the the 7th character b/c he wouldnt have gone anywhere, so he would still be in the lobby.

As a side note it was interesting to see that Satoshi is jealousy of Oreki

I don't want to over-evaluate the episode but I have to admit that Oreki's theory seems to fit quite well (it was an easy possibly to me and I expected it myself) but the missing rope from the solution did come to surprise because we were focused on the solution that we forgot the props that were required.

I sure as hell can't think of the use for the rope but from the title of the next episode I think it could be an extra scene added to the end of the movie before or after the credits (movies do that) that way they don't have to completely rework the movie but alter it so it fits Hongous original theory.

Oreki's evaluation sucked monkey balls. When using a cameraman, the only time it becomes important is when the cameraman is pointed out such as when the angle comes from a characters visage or when a TV-station place cameraman is attacked... The cameraman was there only to be the eyes of the movie. This is a FACT.

The rope may or may not be important. Directors tend to ask for tons of shit before throwing so many parts away. It's a part of making a movie... haven't you seen behind the scenes where there's tons of shit that never met the screen laying around?

The fact that the movie was incomplete is important though. With their poor acting skills, they would have given the killer away immediately... This was a very important key to be used while filming.

The master key was not used for the murder because he unlocked the door to enter it. The door was only locked once the killer left the room and the proof that the door was locked was the click when using the master key.

I'm about to watch episode 8 again and come up with who I believe did it... A thing to keep in mind though is that whoever attacked him would've had blood splattering on something he used... the glass between the arm and body was completely clean too... It's a strange murder.

Wow, great ep.

The 7th character theory never occurred to me. I don't think anyone mentioned it in last ep's thread either. Pretty awesome twist. Especially in the end.

Now I'm not only curious about the rope and how it all fits, but I'm also curious about Chitanda. What did she want to say to Oreki? Maybe she was going to mention the rope herself but didn't think it was the right time? Or maybe she was mad that Oreki tried to solve it without her.

Things are getting good.

I wasn't expecting the 7th person conclusion. I was more on the line of thinking that the dude got a fake arm and fake blood, made it look like he was killed and then he would've come back and hung someone, and killed some more people.

The 7th person theory does go with this theory in that he could be present (cameraman) and is one of the last people killed/person that kills the dude.
