MOTHER OF GOD!! I have to clap my hands just to applaud that performance. Probably, the best music performance I've seen.

Holy shit, this show is now on my top shows for this year. What an amazing episode, and an amazing performance. I'm definitely still looking forward to what comes next, what's become of Brother Jun, and how the romance elements are going to develop.

Expect nothing less from Shinichiro Watanabe (I know it's not his original work, but still). I was ready to dismiss it from the first episode, but really glad I stuck around. I think it should be a crime to doubt anything that man will direct or produce. And of course, how can I forget Yoko Kanno?

4 moar eps left!

It was good seeing Kaoru getting integrated to the class and it seems like Ritsuko's feelings are changing, little by little. The scene with Sen, Yurika and Jun was very well executed. The festival scene was pretty touchy as well, especially with the particular song played. (the animation in the little scenes where students are calling everyone to the sports hall was very smooth)
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

I was wondering why Coltrane hadn't been mentioned at all so far, but the mention of his death plus the incredible medley starting off with Kaoru's interpretation of Coltrane's interpretation of "My Favorite Things" more than made up for it. I'd have liked to hear a mention of A Love Supreme somewhere, but it's alright.

But DAT MEDLEY. First of all, I loved how well Kaoru played off of McCoy Tyner's original chord voicings, which are a major reason why I love the Coltrane version of "My Favorite Things" so much. The pentatonic-based chords are just gorgeous, and the entire reharmonization is brilliant, especially when it shifts from E minor to E major for the interlude. I really like how Kaoru sorta played around McCoy's original solo during the interlude, not exactly quoting it but obviously playing a solo heavily informed by it, then went crazy with it. And then it went into "Someday My Prince Will Come," and I thought Kaoru was just quoting it as part of his solo to impress Ritsuko, but then I realized he was doing a medley. And then "Moanin'" came in. Not my favorite part of the medley, but still a fantastic performance.

I really wish there was some reference to the tune this episode was named after, "Now's the Time" by Charlie Parker. I don't remember if they've even mentioned Bird in this series. If they have, I think it was only once in passing.

Oh, and I like how Kaoru and Sentarou made up as well, but this episode to me was all about the music. I realize it's about both, but the medley was such an exceptional performance that I don't have much to say about anything else in the episode.

Also, I really love that a lot of people seem to be getting into jazz as a result of this series. Even if the ending to this is utter shit, like so terrible the entire series is ruined as a result (extremely unlikely, but still within the realm of possibility), the fact that it's managed to get people who likely wouldn't have given jazz a chance otherwise into jazz earns it a lot of respect from me.

This was the best episode to date and they kept it close to the manga. This made it all that much better. As someone stated, I wish I could give it a 6/5 (well the person who started this CAN edit the first response and make it so. ;)

This show. At some point in each end every episode it makes me think it's gonna go all-out yaoi. Trolls, trolls everywhere.

... But anyway, at last I got more music! Absolutely fabulous, this one was.

This hit way too close to home, as I JUST had a big fight (maybe a friendship-breaking one) with my friend. And the juxtaposition of them running off cheerfully with our recent conversation was...ehhh ;/ This made me sad.

Nice. I hadn't realized this series was taking place in the 60s until this episode. I guess that makes sense I don't think average kids stare in awe at jazz performances nowadays. I'm a jazz fan and sure wish it was more prevalent then the 10k DJs that always seem to be around, lol.

This show is absolutely wonderful and is probably the show of the season for me. The characters are all so believable and even when they are behaving stupidly I still feel for them. Ri-chan is one of the cutest anime girls I've ever seen but what's best about her is how genuine her sweetness is. I've seen so many generic moe girls with their fake cuteness and Ri-chan blows them out of the water. Her cuteness feels so realistic and not manufacted at all. Her character was created to be a person not just to cute for the sake of being cute and it makes me love her character.

I love all the other characters as well, even Kaoru as blockheaded as he can be. However, given his upbringing it makes sense for his character to act that way. And Sentaro is simple a charismatic likable guy. He's not the smartest but he's so honest and forthright that I find it impossible not to like him and once again I find his character very believable.

I thought this episode was great from start to finish. I love that they didn't drag out the drama to much but resolved it with an absolutely amazing musical performance. The spirit of jazz permeates this anime so it only makes sense that this is the languages these two guys communicate best with. And it was just a brilliant scene.

I love how relaxing this show is to watch. It's a very simple show about growing up that executed perfectly. This anime stands out because it takes it's time and uses it's characters effectively, developing them into well rounded human being. There is no artificiality about these characters. Their actions always fit with their personalities and I never get the feeling they are acting just for the sake of the plot. It's such a refreshing so to watch after the usual more manic energy of most other anime. So yeah, lovin' it.

Everything I could have said and more.
Rating anything that you haven't finished is retarded. Don't do it.

I thought the drama was dragging a bit like in the last episode and I was getting a bit disheartened by the direction the show had taken. Thankfully this little mini-arc seemed to end here. The whole split seemed somewhat forced like it was there just so that they could get back together and the friendship would be stronger for having overcome an obstacle. The performance was of course amazing, clearly the best part of the show. Of course at the same time I was thinking that no way would two high school kids play like that.

One quick question... What happened to the rock group and their performance, did they forget the main reason why they were doing that duet? It seems he completely forgot why he was helping the dude in the first place. On a side not, kind of don't like Yurika, glad Sentarou probably gave up on her (I hope) cause she has kind of been just leading him on for awhile now.

The conflict between Kaoru and Sentarou got settled with the subject that connects them, Jazz, with a better solution than any spoken conversations could have accomplished and their outstanding performance served as a wonderful climax to this episode.

I have nothing to add.

i was halfway hoping for the amps to come back on and for them to join in, as unrealistic as that would be. not that the two main characters' level of growth and skill at this point aren't ridiculously unrealistic. i can forgive that tho as it makes for a much more entertaining show. also i think the rock guys were supposed to serve as foil for the jazzers: dependent on electricity, lacking spontaneity, in it for the girls, etc.

That was an epic jamming session that they did at the end there.

And once again I have to give props on the animations team on making the parts where they play so fluid and accurate to the actual notes.

Probably the best episode yet. 5/5

This series is radiating with brilliance, the jazz is always so satisfying and it shows how actions truly speak louder, and more clearly, than words. That bond Sen and Kaoru have is indescribably perfect.

Amazing performance. Kaoru and Sentaro truly are amazing when performing together. Such a contrast between Sentaro stiffly playing in that band and him going all out with Kaoru.
