THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
It seems after watching the prior episode along with this one that we've finally got a storyline worthy of more than 3 episodes. Is this what makes Black Lagoon so favorable for many people despite so much negative feedback?

I like this storyline, it incorporates most of the people we're used to seeing with a concrete story (where are you Dutch & Benny ;o;)

The reason why this show gets negative feedback, imo, is because the show can not make up it's mind about being serious or not serious. When you have a story that is serious and then suddenly throw in random crazy shit it seems like the writer is taking the easy way out when the main characters get into trouble. Revy's guns are often a dues ex machina in this anime. They are magical guns that can get them out of any situation and that is not good writing.

that is hardly a rare occurance in anime you know, the main character being able to vanquish animes with ease though i really think that is an exaggeration with Revy. She wasn't the one to get them out of every situation and didn't win every single fight either....

I see why people may dislike Black Lagoon, mainly for its lack of a complete story/character development.
But I enjoy Black Lagoon for those reasons. Sure, I appreciate it when the writers put together a plot worthy of 3+ episodes, but I also like the fact that Black Lagoon is a collection of stories, starring this mercenary troupe (altough the lack of Benny and Dutch is alittle annoying)

as a long as an anime is entertaining it does not necessarily has to have a long, developed story with one main objective. black lagoon certainly is entertaining and engaging for me.

I'm just really confused about Rock's "position" as Balalaika's interpreter...isn't she speaking Japanese?
The gun fights are what drew me to this series, so that action for me is enough. I agree that the plot can be a little...scattered at times, but, imo, that's what keeps you on your toes. Well, sort of.

While this series might not have a very deep plot it more than makes up for it with likable and very entertaining characters and situations involving them.

This plot line is great, I can't wait to see where this goes. And it seems like Rock is finally going to be able to choose which side of life to walk on.

From what I've seen in Roanapura everyone speaks English, but the way the show is filmed we hear it as Japanese. At the end of the episode Balalaika does actually speak flawless japanese as Rock is too stunned to translate.
It's also true that many business people who can speak a foreign language will still bring a translator and speak in their native tongue. A translator acts as a medium for not only the language differences but the cultural ones as well. Having a conversation in a Japanese manner may not suit Balalaika and she may seem too... forceful?

Hm... lots of intertextual references... Stephen King, Edgar Allan Poe and others...
Ginji in action... interesting.
I say this again, Rock needs to have his moment again soon, or else... well he's still the best character out of the Lagoon Company.

You may be right, except for, at the very least, the serious and not serious episodes are usually part of it's own arc. For example, the dead serious Twin arc is nothing like the Roberta arc in tone.

Plot? Black Lagoon doesnt have any big plot, its just like lives of membres of Lagoon company, sometimes unpredictable, sometimes crazy, sometimes calm. Thats why I like it so much, plus characters are best. I disliked Rock at start, but now I like him ALMOST as much as Revy. I was so angry when that blonde dumbass kicked his ass, I hope Revy will kill him slowly and painfully.

This is turning into quite the crime story. Though it's taking it's time to develop I'm eagerly anticipating its conclusion, this just hows how well-built the whole plot was.

I'm really liking the Washimini girl, she is really interesting, I just hope she gets through this... For me one of the most interesting characters in the whole series so far.

I agree with this, they know how to separate the ridiculous mindless parts with serious story telling, just take a look at this arc, the story is completely on another level than the other arcs.

Theres just people out there that want to ding a popular show...saying the show is inconsistent with its serious tones or that theres really no main plot...anyone ever seen cowboy bebop? The main story is about 3 episodes long while the rest are stand alone. Doesnt change the fact that its one of the best series...and same with black lagoon.

Rock is soon going to have to choose what kind of life he's going to lead. And Hotel Moscow isn't going to make it easy for him to choose.

Revy has been surprisingly sedate in the last couple of chapters.

agree,

it's just story of Lagoon and co branching out.

we had an arc about the church, then about the twin sisters, then battle in the jungle, shenua etc.

though i think Dutch is being Ditch for some reason(get it)

things are about to get complicated.

yeah it's very common for a clan to have a only daughter to take up the reigns.

damn Hotel Moscow is just too powerful :P

hope to see Revy kicks that asshole blonde guy for beating Rock.

Yay for Anne Rice.

And things are starting to heaten up. I wonder why Revy didn't take her pistols with her in the first place? Not like it would be difficult to get them there when they managed to get the Hotel Moscow guys, and when they can do it now. Simply so she doesn't do anything stupid?

Well, by the time they arrive Balalaika will have started the all out war anyways, so Revy can join in right away.

I think a major thing that happens when shows get to a certain level of popularity or a reputation of high quality, people who normally wouldn't be interested in the show watch it out of curiosity, and surprise surprise! They don't like it as much as people who sought it out solely because of its content.

That blonde punk cheapshotting Rock like that. Punk needs an ass beating for real.

I get that Rock couldn't have done anything in that situation but I just wish he took part in more of the action.

This plot for this arc is definitely more solid that all the others.
