Thanks for the Beck Upvote I appreciate it. Yeah, individual Beck characters are not strong but if they ban together and make music that's what I remember them the most, obviously Koyuki is solid because he did have the most screen time than most of the characters in the show.

Yeah your right I used to hot and humid climates because 31'C is considered tolerable in my country, during the summer we reached around 36 to 39 Celsius and that's pricking hot to the point I only laze around during the afternoon and late morning because it was too hot to do anything, and we only used air conditioning at night because electricity is cheap at night compared to the day when its the most expensive.

I heard Summer there is pretty hot but I can't tell since it does depend on which states you are in.

It's the rainy season here but it's natural since I live in southeast Asia.

Might be the shortest review I ever made last year

Here's the link on My Beck Review: https://myanimelist.net/reviews.php?id=364453

A lot of people like and upvote it, Hope you like it too, upvote is also appreciated

Doing fine, just waiting to get vaccinated, and currently, in my country, it's the rainy season. I forgot to mention in our previous chat that I made a review about Beck.

Interested to read what my overall thoughts about it?

Hello There! Randomly Passing By

I just watched the first episode of the original. I then skipped to 12, then to 24. I then found the analogous episodes of the remake. Episode 12 of the original (the capture of Iserlohn Fortress) is episode 7 of the remake. Episode 24 of the original (quelling of the coup on Heinessen) is episode 21 of the remake. Episode 26 of the original (Reinhard's rise to Duke) is episode 24 of the remake. Basically, everything regarding the storyline is there. Keeping in mind this isn't the entirety of the original story. The remake is only up to episode 24 with another 24 episodes in the works. Some nuances were admittedly missing (like 10-20 second scenes on cryogenic sleep chambers and such), and there was not as much coverage of the Dominion of Fezzan. However, in the grand scheme, they are some pretty extraneous excerpts. Given all of that, I'd say yes, it has the "substance."

To your point, the remake does take and improve upon the original. As I said, the visuals absolutely stomp the 1980s animation of the original. The new soundtrack is similarly superb. The original reminded me a lot of the Star Wars soundtrack, and rightfully so (both being space operas from the 80s). The sound design of the remake is also phenomenal. I laughed at the sound effects of the original, frankly.

After comparing the two for myself, I think you have a bit of rosy retrospection bias. I'd say give the remake a shot. There is a lot to appreciate in the remake beyond solely the improved visuals, as I've mentioned.

I also have to outright disagree about the the space battles not being the biggest selling point. Space operas are driven by space warfare with dabblings in all of the other topics that drive the warfare (economics, social issues, politics, etc.). The spectacle and shear amount of time spent on the battles further emphasizes this. Even when battles aren't taking place, the strategies and objectives of upcoming battles are being discussed. It's kinda hard to not to see the battles being the focal point.

I've also tried the remake of Higurashi. Keeping in mind, I couldn't care less about Higurashi, but I have made passing glances at the visual novels. I'd say that remake also looked promising. The artstyle of Akio Watanabe (of Monogatari and Grisaia fame) was an interesting touch. Albeit, I haven't cared to bother with the original, so take my opinion with grains of salt and pepper.

Of course, to each their own, but I've seen many people knock remakes for the sake of them being remakes. Stereotypically, sure, remakes of games and shows are worse than their originals, but I don't consider that to be the case with Legends of the Galactic Heroes.

Someone recommended I watch it in 2018. I found it was being remade by Production I.G., and I just had to watch it. I was not disappointed. Animation being a visual medium, my bar for Space Opera visuals is set to the animated TV series of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Seeing an anime with a similar level of CGI quality just amazed me, so I'm pretty partial toward this remake.

I did try watching a bit of the original, but the remake is just so well done (story, visuals, audio), that I don't care very much whether or not I'm getting a 100% faithful adaption. I also have to admit, I prefer the design of the ships in the remake over the original. I also already consider the more economic- and politically-driven story of this remake to be better than the more action-packed narrative of The Clone Wars, so I'm pretty happy, overall.

It's not as if I can't watch older shows with an older animation style. I've watched a fair share, myself. If there's a truly compelling reason for me to watch the original, sure, I'll give it another shot. I'm really satisfied with the remake, though.

You're so right. I just really don't care about the romance or story. That also goes for slice of life and rom-com. With the little bit more I did watch, I can definitely see Taiga's actions coming from her confusion in her feelings. Maybe I don't hate her, but I still wouldn't say I like her. Same goes for the show. And, yeh, the tsundere thing is definitely another no from me.

There are different types of characters and shows to cater to different types of people, so I guess that's that. Thanks for giving your thoughts. Helps me to see things from another's perspective.
CloacaMaxima Jan 1, 2021 7:05 PM
Mhm. I have to agree about her being the best example of that. I've admittedly not finished the show, but I've seen many AMV clips of her. Based on those and character descriptions I've read over time, I've come to genuinely dislike her. Hence, why I ask. That, coupled with me generally not caring for romance anime. Kinda doubly no for me there. However, in retrospect, I could see how she could be preferential. I'll give her and the show another shot. It's popular and pretty well rated, so it truly can't be that bad.

I've gotta ask. What do you like in Taiga, because I can't stand her? My mind just fails to comprehend this.
theMuschainner Dec 27, 2020 2:33 PM
Hi!
Yes, i've seen only a few, most of them were funny. But he is rather a meme-er. I like a much more mature content...
Ezekiel_01 Nov 28, 2020 10:50 PM
I will take note of that.

Nana kinda shares some similarities but a far more different take from the genre so I can understand why.
