First episode and this series already starts with some action. Lots of dialogue too, which makes the episode pass a tad quickly IMO

not the most exciting episode but still very captivating. The tactics were decent from Reinhard but the alliance were incredibly poor. I do like the contrast between the old, set in their ways officers and the young, energetic officers.

At first I was afraid of the number of characters that are presented in a short span, but once you are inmerse in the dynamics of the show, everything simply flows. This episode centred more in Reinheart and we instantly know that he is a loyal presence and a master in war strategy. This anime started amazing with a good pace, hopefully it lasts that way.

I was iffy about the first 2 episodes but things really pick up and there's some awesome character stuff and nuances going on by Ep4-8 (I'm at so far). Recommend anyone on the fence stick with it a bit!

Ok, so I just attempted to rewatch this episode in order to start watching this again and I couldn't get through the first few minutes without bursting out in laughter.
The dialog about stars is so damn ridiculously cheesy, this is the "superb writing" that people are talking about in this thread? And why the hell does Reinhard look directly at the screen? It's so goofy.
Also there is something weird feeling about the animation, like it's extremely fluid and extremely stiff at the same time.
I know this is just the first episode but this is painful, even if it's unintentionally funny, maybe it gets better after this but dear god I couldn't imagine calling this "the best anime ever made" based on what I just attempted to watch.

I expected the first episode to be boring but that was sick asl. I love how they show both sides of the war--it gives each decision a ton of weight since you can see how one stubborn old guy's idea can result in the deaths of thousands of their allies.

When I was watched this a few months ago I didn't realize I was watching Die Neue These until I was several eps in. But now I've found the original and I like it even better. The animation really brings me back to my old Star Blazers days. Nostalgia ftw!
