Such a great episode and anime!
I liked how Urashima Tarou's legend was referenced with Fei's story!

That last escene almost made me cry. Young Faye talking to herself about being great, damn, you could feel the sadness in her eyes when she realised she couldn't remember anything.

Overall a pretty good episode, but there is always a few things that bug me when i watch it.

How exactly did the shipping company know to send it to her when she doesn't even know her own name? Even if the shipping information before the gate accident was lost, the current shipping information is still there, which usually would include a name. And for that matter, given that is was first shipped in the era of betamax players, shouldn't the sender/recipient name and address be physically written on the package somewhere?

Well, I'm probably just overthinking it. Just ignore my inquisitiveness.

Never fails to surprise, you expect you will get your dose of fun, light hearted space adventures, like the previous episode, and the latter half delivers in bringing an impactfull mood to the overal thing. Another great episode, the thing is every episode so far is at the least a pretty good episode itself, whatever the genre it tries to tackle, so at this point is just a given, standart Cowboy Bebop quality.
24 minutes, very, very enjoyable.

What a lovely and emotional episode. It teared me up :')

After all of this, I'd be mad if they left us hanging like that. Glad they didn't.

The young Faye was such a cutie <3
I was hoping for her real name to pop up tho.

The nice thing about this episode, you unexpectedly find out more about Faye and hearing about obsolete technologies. Perhaps someone still remembers the VHS and Betamax, but in another ten years, there will be no trace, like the memories that Faye has no more of her; so, I think they wanted to create this cluster parallelism between the two things to let you know the concept better. I find it interesting and which ones is of great practical value to register a message addressed to themselves, to remember how it was years before. It can be good or bad, but it will do always reflect and excite. Good narrative ploy, used to re-float the memories of Faye, the atmosphere was so touching.

It's kinda sad that Fayne can't remember anything, even after seeing the tape. Anyway, I don't think she needs to remember. Young Fayne was very cute tho.

This was one of my favourites. Starts off slow and you really can't tell where it's going. The end was sweet and sad at the same time, I really liked it.

Oh man I remember this episode specifically because it's when I really fell in love with the soundtrack. One of my favorite OST songs ever, The Egg and I, is featured prominently this episode, playing when Jet and Spike are traipsing through the underground to find the beta player.
I didn't remember what was on the tape, though, and I teared up a bit at the end there. I was really itching for her to say her name, tho, and that itch was not scratched D: But, thus is the style of Cowboy Bebop. Leave em wanting.

Another glimpse of Faye's past. I hope that she regain at least some part of herself.

I really enjoyed the part where we see the younger Faye talking to her older self and cheering her on. It was such a sweet and meaningful scene. Definitely emotionally much deeper than it seems at first.

Beta! lol. I never saw that but there was a store that until literally the other week (I wish I had taken a picture properly, I tried from car) had a sign that said Raynor Beta and Video!!! So they must've had the same sign for over 20 years until the other week! I was gutted they took down the sign as it amused me.

Watching Beverly Hills 90210 on video! I was like "Minnesota and twins = BH90210" lol and it was and they even slightly changed Jason Priestley and Shannon Doherty's name and said exec producers at the end. And when this was being made so was that still! I watched it all on DVD a few years back! Amazing. They still say Brandon though or Brendon but not Brenda lol. Although that Brandon looked taller than the actual. I've loved Jason Priestley since watching and now am watching him in Private Eyes which is a great PI show. I would recommend, he's still hot too <3

They should've took Ed with them to get the Beta player so they didn't come back with VHS! LOL!

Although I was gonna say the second package was probably a Beta player and it was.

They finally got to watch it after all that, and it was Faye! I thought it would be since it was sent to her obviously. I guess they found a part of her past life still existed.

The video time capsule was a really great thing to see, a young teen Faye talking to her future self was really sweet.

Do people still make time capsules? I think we made one in primary school, I don't remember what I put in, I wonder if they've unearthed it yet.

So she was a teen in he 80's and the show was made in the 90's when she should have been in her 20's and seen that, although surprising they found a way to play it in the future as I doubt they would have found a player in the 90's easily let alone now.

Awww, what a sweet episode.

Seeing Spike pull the tape out of that cassette triggered the hell out of me.

Wasn't expecting it to get so emotional in the last 10 minutes. Strong moment with Faye seeing her younger self, who, in a way, no longer exists. Please episode 19, pick up where this episode left off.

Wow, fuck Spike for ruining that guy's Beta player. The way those two acted with antique technology dude harshly lowered my opinions of them. In fact, this episode catapulted Faye to the top of my list. Really sweet and sentimental addition to her persona.

How would the tape even get to Faye if she made up a name for herself given her records and memories were destroyed? How would the package track to her? The entire premise of the episode is nonsense.

All weebs creatures of the galaxy, hear this message. Those of you who listen will not be struck by western animation. You will no longer know hunger, nor pain. Your Anime have come to lead you now. Our strength shall serve as a luminous sun toward which all intelligence may blossom. And the impervious shelter beneath which you will prosper. However, for those who refuse our offer and cling to their western animation ways… For you, there will be great wrath.

By far one of the most interesting episodes. We're literally watching citizens of the deep, deep future looking far back into history -- into a reality in which is seemingly unheard of. Where humans ONLY live on Earth. Spike, Jet, and Faye must've been totally perplexed by the images on the TV screen -- an atmosphere of which we're entirely familiar with. And it was heart-warming seeing a younger, non-deceptive Faye, too. This was very different from the usual Cowboy Bebop episode.

I also appreciate the LONG@$$ sequence of Spike and Jet CASUALLY maneuvering their way through a hazardous, decayed building. It was almost like ASMR. Nothing was happening. No plot progression. No conflicts, even. Just a future duo exploring a building that's 60-120 years older than they are. When they saw the cat on the floor -- I saw someone say it was Meowth from Pokemon -- who knows what was going through their mind.

But yeah, I can't find the right words to describe the atmosphere of this episode. It was just SO wholesome. And SOOTHING.

P.S. This is my 100th forum post. See you in space, cowboy!

Seeing Spike pulling the tape made me paranoid. Also the way he busted the tape recorder was priceless.

Damn, the ending really got sad at the end. Seeing how much time flies by. The way she cheered herself on. Could totally relate to it on a personal level. Great episode.

I can't say that I like Faye, she's not "my type" of character and I found her characterization really poor. But damn, this episode made me cheer for her. Young Faye was a really cute and kind girl, I hope this videotape helps Faye to improve as a character in general.

Man, this episode has aged extremely well! All the characters treating Beta as some ancient artifact must have seemed funny back when this episode came out, but a couple decades later and it really does seem like an ancient artifact to most of us viewers.

This episode has been such a fun ride, but the ending was very touching. Young Faye is so cute, I love the way she encouraged herself ! But it is truly sad that she didn't think her words about "not being there anymore" would have such meaning in the future. She literally isn't there anymore, Faye herself doesn't remember her. Isn't it true that being forgotten is just like being dead ? Even more if you're forgotten by yourself. But at the same time, this ending with Young Faye doing her cheerleading routine to encourage her future self has a truly heartwarming meaning. She isn't completely gone, and her message will (most likely) help her older self when she needs it.

G-SUS........ It goes beyond feelings of total loss and death before time.
I couldn't explain the sensation Faye had watching the child version of herself cheering happily for her to win, a ghostly sweet girl which she can't remember/associate with. 10/10!

Another really good episode, right after the previous one. I didn't initially expect this one to go in the direction it did. And even then, I was worried this would just end in some stupid gag, but instead they actually decided to have an emotionally fulfilling conclusion. I'm hoping there'll at least be one more episode like this before the series is over.

Although there is one complaint I have, and I'm surprised only a few people have mentioned it. Who sent the tape, and then the Beta player? I really hope this gets answered.

On a side note, I've found that I enjoy the side characters much more than Spike. Sure he has the "dark and brooding past" trope, but that's it. He isn't very expressive most of the time, and lately they've just been wheeling him out for the main story episodes. I don't know, he just seems kinda overrated.

This was such a bittersweet episode. I'm loving how this show always manages to bring up ancient feelings inside me. It feels so long since I was a kid, but imagine not even remembering those good times... Faye seemed like a good and suportive, but kind of lonely, kid. At least now she's starting to find her place: on board of the Bebop.
