there it is the man that became a kaiju

the simple character designs really give more sakuga i hope the fans would not hate the simple character designs anymore

btw the same staff that did heavenly delusion another production ig anime adaptation made this new show too so while the staff is talented i expect some quality decrease along the way since they do not have enough time between productions of the 2 anime shows and that is why its only 12 episodes too instead of 2 cours

Well that was a crazy first episode. So much happened but it was all really awesome. Production I.G. as always have insane production values so scenes like Kafka running and the fight against the Kaiju were particular stand outs. I felt bad for Kafka mostly, as he is really likeable from what we have seen but he just hasn't yet been able to realise his full potential. With a new kouhai he seems to have regained some motivation though. The relationship between him and Mina will be interesting to see play out. Of course they have to introduce a twist at the end, with Kafka transforming into a Kaiju himself. I'm sure things won't be easy for him from now but it will be exciting to see his journey. Also getting to watch this live was a unique and cool experience. Hopefully crunchyroll/twitter/other streamers will continue this trend going forward.

Well, this is mangaka's Natsu Matsumoto's Weekly Shonen Jump adaptation at its finest, A VERY IMPRESSIVE premiere showing.

The Anti-Kaiju Defense Force may be protecting its people from the relentless Kaiju attacks, yet it's the divisions' underling people like Kafka Hibino who has to do all of the unsung work of removing the Kaiju in question, worse stll when it comes to its inner body of intensities and the like. It's a disparity between him and the brave Captain Mina Ashiro, which they both have a childhood goal to become Captains. Clearly, Kafka has given up this dream, which the young newbie of Reno Ichikawa still has the fire within him to want to be part of the Defense Force. But at 32 years old, Kefka may feel like he's feeling his age, and against a sudden emerging Yoju, he manages to scurry Ichikawa to safety while being bait.

For all of Kafka's life being told that he's not good enough to join the Defense Force, Ichikawa's fight gave him enough will to stand up again, though the Yoju is soon dealt by Mina and her team. As both guys recover in the hospital, Kafka keeps getting regrets, but finds himself with a will...except with a Kaiju infiltrating his body, making him a human-Kaiju hybrid.

Production I.G. is going 2-for-2 from Heavenly Delusion to this.

I remember how this blew up around four years ago when it first started, so getting an adaptation was always something more than inevitable. Also, I mean the way they’re advertising this and the kind of resources they’ve put… pretty evident from the first few minutes itself, it does seem like they’ve very strong expectations out of this.

But man, the protag himself, who's a 32 year old guy, does seem as out of place in this kind of setting as the popularity of this series despite being a cliche-fest. Kaijus have taken over japan, so in spite of fighting and killing those things, which a normal protag would’ve had, he cleans after the mess defence corps leave with after taking down any kaiju… very fitting job for him, I must say lol.

We saw Ichikawa making an appearance, and man, no need to humiliate Kafka right off the bat lol. He’s incompetent and he knows… so let it be:) Anyways, the main character thing happened, and now there’s a kaiju inside Kafka. This is how it started, and will be a long journey from here on out.

Now this was a decent enough start, but this series will be as cliche and as predictable as one could ever be. There’s absolutely nothing here one hasn’t already seen, so only the visuals.. quite sublime at that, and cool looking fights would carry this.

I only hope the characters don’t feel as insufferable with the voices as they always did while reading the manga, especially the main guy, Mina and Kikoru.

One of the biggest new hits of Shounen Jump+ is Naoya Matsumoto's Kaiju No. 8. You can tell it's a big hit because not only can you catch the stream simultaneously with the Japanese broadcast on Crunchyroll, but also on the but also on the hell incarnate itself, X/Twitter. Yes, you heard me right

Kafka Hibino, aged 32, harbors a deep desire to enlist in The Defense Force, driven by a childhood vow to his friend Mina Ashiro. Amidst the daunting task of clearing Kaiju remnants, he forms a bond with Reno Ichikawa, a newcomer to the team. Reno’s unwavering determination to join the Defense Force ignites Kafka’s determination to fulfill his childhood pledge, propelling him to pass the entrance exam and stand alongside Mina in the defense of humanity. However, fate takes a drastic turn when a diminutive Kaiju embeds itself within Kafka, bestowing upon him extraordinary strength and abilities tailored for combatting Kaiju.

I read the first volume of this a while back, so I know the main gist of the show. Character designs aside—and even they aren't that bad in anime form—I think those posters just didn't do them justice. The Kaijus look amazing. I mean, if this were any other studio, you'd expect it to just be CGI... which wouldn't be the greatest of ideas considering they play a big part in the show, and, you know, it's in the name lol. Production IG has put a LOT of work into this... or maybe they just got an increased budget thanks to Elon, lol. Still though, I find it hard to fathom that we're at a point where anime is being streamed on X/Twitter. A great premiere nonetheless; it was destined to be great the moment IG picked this up. OST, animation, everything looked great. I expect big things IG, and with this episodes you've already proved you've got what it takes. Though can you keep it up is the question.

As if having this air on X/Twitter wasn't appealing to the Western audience enough, we now have OneRepublic's ED... It's a banger, but WTF... LMAO.

There's no reason you should be missing this, or even resorting to piracy to watch it. It's on X/Twitter for that reason lol. Even still, this is a ride not to be missed, and it'll be a crazy one.

From a technical standpoint, I think looked solid and they didn't waste time getting right to the juicy part of the show. The kaijuu are what you'd expect from what they advertised. Some of the cast are also introduced most noticably Kafka. Mina also got some highlight for her accomplishments and reputation so she's someone worth to keep an eye on.

Ichikawa and Kafka's character dynamics are also kinda interesting just from the first episode. This anime seems to make it clear that danger can happen any time when Ichikawa also got killed out nowhere. Also got some flashbacks so maybe we'll see more throughout the season. Kafka seems like the guy really trying to keep a promise . Ichikawa seeing Kafka in his kaiju form was comedy gold.

Great start, bring on more!

This was a fun premiere with solid action and was a bit more goofy than I expected. The twist of the main character turning into a kaiju is interesting, though I didn't expect the way that he turned into one. I wasn't anticipating this one that much, and don't know if I'll enjoy it the whole way through, but this is a good start, and I hope it can turn out to be a pleasant surprise for me.

Watching anime live on Twitter is certainly a different experience...

The animation and action is gonna carry this and I'm here for it. First episode looked really great. The animation was superb, Production IG never miss. Character designs didn't look bad as well. People were freaking out for no reason. Never heard of the band doing the OP and a bit of a surprise for a full english opening by a non jp band too, not that I mind but the song itself was like okay. Anyway looking forward to seeing the hype stuff animated. I wonder how far we'll go. With the manga mainly focused on action I think we'll make it to chapter 31/32 this season?

The big kaiju show everyone had been waiting for is here! We have our protagonist Kafka who's an approaching thirties under achiever. Stuck in a brutal job of clean up crew after the kaiju are killed by the defense force. I loved all the introduction scenes seeing how the defense force tactically takes down a kaiju. The production on this show is top notch with the camera moving around the giant kaiju and the helicopters. Its nice seeing a world where they've learned how to kill these giant monsters efficiently, for the most part. There's still the nasty cleanup work that must he done afterwards. Which is very sad since the glory and praise go to the defense force while the cleanup crew gets nothing but grimy guts and fat to cut up. It's a great parallel between our world and how those that do the dirty work, sometimes literally, don't get any admiration while those on top going the bright and shiny work get it all. Kafka seems to have resolved himself to be stuck on the underbelly of society in this role. Thinking that life has passed him by, which is very relatable honestly. A younger coworker entering the team in Reno reignited that spark in Kafka to join the defense force. A harrowing scene with them both trying to escape that tasty looking monster with its crazy eyes. Each showing bravery protecting one another. We do get an interesting twist at the end of the episode with that kaiju bug entering Kafka and turning him into a kaiju himself. How will this effect his dream of joining the defense force.

I'm actually surprised how adaptable the society is, civilization can co-exist with a weekly Kaiju invasion with minimal casualties. Maybe Kaiju in this anime has Godzilla principle in which the monster aim to cause collateral damage rather than directly kill people. And we somehow live in a golden age of Kaiju era beginning with Godzilla Minus One to this. It's just amazed me.

Now for the first episode, as someone who don't read manga I've high expectation for the anime adaptation and I'm happy to report that the first episode meet my expectation. In one way it kinda reminds me of Chainsaw Man. A big budget adaptation of a story about a man turn into a monster and using that power to hunt monsters. Oh, both Chainsaw Man and this are published in Shonen Jump Plus, could this magazine recently has more adaptation rate than Weekly Shonen Jump?

Kafka seems to be a pretty likeable guy, really great 1st episode! The OneRepublic song was kinda meh, it sounds like I Ain't Worried 2.0. I'm more hyped to see the OP visuals next week with the YUNGBLUD song.

2 weeks of Spring anime passed and honestly, with Sousou no Frieren finally coming to an end, it really caused a chaos in Southeast Asian weeb culture as they start comparing either a new fantasy or a shounen anime to Frieren. Even this anime is totally Sci-Fi x Action, I can sense at least 1 person starting to compare it with Frieren. It's totally cringe and I hope it isn't anyone around here.

They make a huge deal about how special the third division is, but all it takes to kill the Kaiju is a single shot from a small cannon which literally anyone could do and could easily be mounted on countless vehicles. There is also no explanation for why, if single projectiles from a cannon can do that much damage, the missiles fired before could not. This did not do a good job of making the Kaijus or third division seem particularly impressive, it seems like the main characters just have inexplicable plot weapons in addition to the normal plot armor, and that these make the Kaijus completely insignificant as threats. This is classic "show, don't tell." Don't just repeatedly tell us that third division is special, show it.

First episode is here and while I'm not a big fan of the character designs in the anime, it is more simplistic for animation purposes so I guess that flexibility to have more big sakuga scenes could work. Never really was a fan of the series and the first episode here felt very bog-standard plot wise but can see how there's charm to this as well. I like the setting and the colors involved more than anything else about this. Also, having an older adult character be the lead in a shounen anime series does give it one other refreshing element to it, as they need all they can get. Action was solid but admittedly, the plot and some of the humor made me feel a bit too bored at times. Kaijus didn't feel that great as well as a threat, at least from this episode only. Can see the appeal but not something exciting and refreshing for me to enjoy for the time being.

OneRepublic in 2024... that is an option to say the least. It is nice seeing a Western artist do a song for the anime in particular, but OneRepublic's music has been very generic and run-of-the-mill for a very long time now and this is no exception.

I didn't see it on X so don't know if the experience is worth giving it a shot next week, will see.

jeez this might actually be my anime of the season if production IG continues to cook the rest of the adaptation like this, they are a great studio after all and didn't miss with the visuals in this episode. even though the manga fell off in the current arc, i remember enjoying the first 70 chapters so this should be good because i'm a sucker for kaiju action in every medium. strong start and i like the atmosphere of the show despite the cliches. onerepublic and yungblud for the ED and OP is wild though lol.

It might just be me, but I get a really heavy feel of inspiration and motivation coming from Kafka's character development direction because of that spark reigniting for him to chase after his dreams once again at his age.

Also I can't be the only one that gets a Chainsaw Man-like feel from the type of world that Kaiju is set in, and hoping that the team from Production I.G. really keeps the production this good moving on forward.

Good luck on those watching on X by the way, hope things stay well on that end

That was tons of fun and with some very nice production values. I hope they keep it up throughout the length of the season. Will definitely keep it in my to watch schedule. That said, Sci-fi with an adult looking protagonist almost ensures that it will flop here with the MAL crowd for sure.

I've heard a lot of hype surrounding this one so it's no surprise that it's one of my most highly anticipated shows of the season.

Poor Kafka doing gross menial labor while Mina basks in the limelight as the face of the Defense Force. Now his life has flipped on its head after a close encounter with a Yoju, followed by him swallowing pause that...thing lol. This was a good first episode that did a good job introducing the core characters and their kaiju-ridden world. The production value is looking good as well. Definitely looking forward to more.

I haven't heard a OneRepublic song since probably high school, so seeing them of all people doing the ED theme caught me off guard lol.

This first episode was really good. You get to see what the aftermath of what it would look like after one of Godzilla's dights. Honestly, if the show would have went that route, I would have been fine with it. I hope the 3rd division captain isn't too bent over the fact that the main protagonist didn't join the force alongside her. Having her be cold to her in the beginning might be interesting to see. But if she's stuck up and refuses to get over I will detract from the appeal of the show a little.

Finally!!! The most anticipated anime of the season Kaiju #8 is out and as expected Production I.G. has knocked the first episode out of the park with the first episode. This is a typical failure to launch story that is easily relatable to older folks like myself. I'm always down for some kick ass kaiju action and I think this show will deliver. I can't wait until Kafka and Mina reunite in unfortunate circumstances in the next episode. It was so good that I watched it twice, both sub and dub.
