Poor Tachibana and Hinata...

The art is so ugly.

The ep started out ok, but the show made the grave mistake of thinking I would give the slightest hint of fuck for pottery boy's tragic past, considering he was just introduced as well as massacred most of the other characters whom I also don't care about. Mentioned yaoi undertones didn't help either.

Indeed, can't feel any sympathy for a characther who's just gotten introduced and who just massacred everybody.

Is it just me or are they having issues deciding on Tenshi's height? At times she appears to barely come up to his shoulders (most notably in the classroom scenes and timeframe 12:40 <- I don't know if they were trying to scale with distance or something but he's standing right next to her in a confined cell...) Other times she's more or less equivalent with Yuri, coming up to a little higher than his shoulders.

I noticed this too. It was pretty weird seeing her height change so much throughout not just this episode, but the whole series. I've started getting more respect for PA Works because of this series, but I still notice those little things :/

I apologize if I offended your fragile bisexual spirit with my sheer ignorance. I guess I should have clearly stated that the hug scene would have had more emotional impact FOR ME if it was hetero. As it is, I don't give a flying fuck about Naoi or his H2O - Footprints in the Sand rip-off tragic past.

Definitely not fragile. And not so much bisexual. And you're not the only one who has the same sentiments, but I chose your words since you were most explicit (which has its positives and negatives). Like I said, I'm sure it would have more impact for you. But that to me, is the sad state that society is in. It was a bad scene no matter how you slice it. It shouldn't get more approval because it was between a boy and a girl.

Not an impressive follow-up to episode 5.

Otonashi lets Kanade chill out on her own in the prison cell (after getting her imprisoned in the first place).
He hugs Hanata in a manner that even Hanata thinks is suggestive.
He embraces and comforts Naoi.
He leaves Yuri to bleed to death in a puddle. Naoi showed more concern for her than Otonashi did and he shot her.

While the first half was fun as we got to see a little more of Kanade, the second half was dismal melodrama.

Technically she was just bleeding. The only thing that Naoi could do to them was torture them constantly and make them disappear with his GEAS.

no, im pretty sure Yuri was shot all over...again..and .. again. Since they cant really die in the world but the painful experience would be awful. I cant imagine what a guy to shoot a defenseless multipletimes like Naoi lol.
And Tenshi story is pretty sad, she is alone, wanting to make friend yet her friends will disappear when they are close to her... so sad :((

Well, yeah I know they experience the pain, which blows. I mean they heal, yeah, but I heal after a paper cut or a when I accidentally cut my hand or step on glass, but doesn't mean it still doesn't hurt and that I don't want it to happen again.

I don't even remember such backstory to Michiru wtf? I do remember she wasn't even human (ghost? spirit?) and named herself the name Minari's mother's miscarriage.

We've already found a resemblance to H20 though.

1) The scene wasn't impactful because of not only the change in tone, but the weak attempt at selling Naoi as a sympathetic person.
2) Just because it's straight doesn't make it better.

What's also amusing is that at the end of the day, most of us know that Otonashi is totally straight, and it's just the writer supplementing the story with enough yaoi to win over the fangirls because the story is just not good or even melodramatically bad like the other Key works.

[/rant]
*applause*
That scene destroyed the episode, and the yaoi fanservice was a weak save (or an attempt, anyways).

Highlights of this episode: T.K. of course, Noda freaking out over being woken up, Kanade using her awesome powers to break down the door, Otonashi grabbing Kanade's hand, Otonashi wanting to become Kanade's friend, and Yuri being bloody and hurt.

My score for Angel Beats! went from a 7 to an 8 thanks to this episode.

Tenshi was adorable. I hadn't said anything about here till now, though she really was cute.
The episode was good up till things started to go fan service for the yaoi fan girls. Then they went all anticlimatic. It would have been better if he was just a mad man.

What he said, at least for me.

Also, to the people who don't like these stories and find it bad, just drop it. It will make your life brighter ;). These kind of anime target a specific audience, whose heart can be moved, and that is surely not the people who are less sensible to drama.

Go Jun Maeda! Your stories are awesome.

You contradicted yourself: you stated that you disliked the backstory of Naoi (which I did too) and then you say that the people who don't like them shouldn't watch it.

If anyone has a problem with the blatant homo-eroticism that will ultimately go nowhere, then you should just drop it as well. These anime target a specific audience, whose penises and clitorii can be moved, and that is sure not the people who are less sensible to yaoi.

Either way, she wasn't on his list of people he was concerned with. He left her in the puddle. Her suffering didn't affect him.

Someone made a comment about people whose heart can't be moved? Yuri's dying and suffering couldn't move Otonashi's heart so maybe he should drop the show as well.

Otonashi could probably bring Tenshi out of her shell and into the 'real' world but he'd only abandon her once she started feeling something for him or got hurt.

So is Naoi gonna be good or bad now? Or did he dissapear at the end of the episode?

I mean, all he wantes was to be acknowledged as himself right? And thats exactly what Otanashi did.

BTW in the preview for a next ep. I saw that someone said "You have a chance to regain you memories." Dammit now I can't wait for the next episode.

Definitely a strange episode. It was great and showed huge developments until the last 3 minutes, when it simply stopped in the middle of the climax to offer a stupid melodrama involving a character we did'nt know until the end of episode 5. The whole structure of the episode was weird and it lacked transitions but it was still very enjoyable and set the mood nicely for things to come I hope.

In every age, in every place, the deeds of men remain the same.

- Glasses guy is a Gray clone, but he has nothing to do with ice.
- Pinkhaired girl still is mediocre comic relief , but she doesn't get any airtime otherwise.
- TK, that English spouting bastard, but his unintended Terminator reference was great.
- Most of the soundtracks still suck, but I like the opening.

+ I actually liked the chip-eating compared to mahjong and most of the others' behaviour in the class.
+ I like Angel's weirdness, while I never like the weird silent girl. That's a definite plus!
+ Go Otonoashi-kun, rape that bastard president kid! But whyy did he start telling his life story all of a sudden .. wtf pottery xD He has a nice father though.

- Hypnosis was a little too overpowered, it even summoned loli's.

My thoughts:

- TK still has it. I wanna learn some of those moves.
- Tenshi is soooo Kawaii that I got an overdose. Seriously.
- Hand Sonic Version 4: Flower Power!! Talk about 1980's... Peace and love... Anyways, now she can brag how she escaped from prison using a flower... Heh.
- Bloodbath was kinda... Bloody... Hum... Yeah that's it.
- Naoi is a pussy. Buuuhoooo, so your daddy didn't like your pottery... Jeez, grow up.
- I'm starting to have doubts about Otonashi's Sexual Orientation. I would have run towards Yuri first... Sorry Hinata, but Yuri is hotter.
- Did I mention Tenshi (or Tachibana-san whatever) is freaking cute?... Did I? Well it's worth saying again!

Overall: Awesome episode, loved it. Only thing that was kinda a setback was the flashback moment and how Naoi was (apparently) a 1-episode villain.

This episode was freakin' awesome until it turned out that the new antagonist was a pussy and probably won't be fighting them in future episodes. I was looking forward to a dictator vs. rebels kind of storyline with Naoi playing Hitler.
The yaoi fanfics/hentai are already in the making I'm sure.

Sorry, I misinterpreted what you said before and got worked up when you said : "and it's just the writer supplementing the story with enough yaoi to win over the fangirls because the story is just not good or even melodramatically bad like the other Key works. " cause I surely don't think so (edited my post cause I messed up badly lol).

Sure, the side story(flashback) was bad but I don't think he put this yaoi to get more fangirls. Skinship even between male in Japan is seen as kind of normal so of course overseas it would be misunderstood; so I don't blame you for thinking so too. Anyways, I could do without too, but when I think about it, between males... what would be seen as non homo when one tries to re comfort the other in this particular situation?

I actually thought you were insulting the story in general. My bad.

Anyways, I'm quite fond of the concept of this anime so I find it great.

Even though I'm ambivalent to the story in general, this is miles better than the other Key shows I have seen (so far). Don't really know what that means, but there you have it.

To me, the only reason to justify Otonashi hugging Naoi after having his loving scene with Hinata (who does point out the homosexual nature of his actions) as opposed to tending to Yuki, the other teammates, defending himself, trying to snap the hypnotized NPCs, or any other reasonable action considering what Naoi had just done is that Otonashi likes boys. There is another option: that Otonashi is just an empty vessel at the mercy of the melodramatic plot, but I think it's more fun to talk about his being gay.

It doesn't really have anything to do with guys being close friends. I can waive off his actions with Hinata as such. But with this episode and his conversation with Naoi, I have a hard time selling myself on it. Maybe that's what other people think also, and instead of just seeing it as bad storytelling, they jump on the "gay=bad, I'm not gay, so I don't want to watch the fags corrupt my straight sensibilities" train.

I'm a bit disappointed that Naoi did so little, he had potential as an antagonist.

I was expecting an epic fight spanning multiple episodes, which the SSS would eventually win with the aid of Tenshi's powers. Instead, they have a gunfight which we barely even see and he gets defeated by a manhug. :/

Still love the show, though. Can't wait for next week.

I thought it was a little bs-y. I mean, that episode's plot had a lot more potential for awesomeness. It should have had more details and stuff. Seriously, they made to much of a deal of the SSS members getting massacred. I mean, they didn't seem to care when they got their buts kicked by angel! That and they should have made it into 2 episodes i think.
