i just finished cowboy bebop yesterday and it's really bugging me, did spike really die at the end? when i search this on google it gives me different answers, so maybe you guys know, or maybe the author made the ending for us to decide if spike died or not

Ya its not a definitive ending. Up to you whether he is alive or dead. I personally think he is dead because the only way he’d live is for Jet to find him. I think its a good ending, definitely a good show

Shinichiro Watanabe said that he’s not even sure yet. It’s up to you to decide.

It is upto the viewers to decide, it has an opening ending. But according to me he did die due to two reasons.
1. The fading star at the end. ( This show uses the stars in the sky to symbolise something important at times)
2. The doves flying ( just like when Julia died)

Hope it helps.
See you space cowboy.

I like to assume he died. It ads more conclusion to the story, and makes me like it even more. Also it makes the most sense

yeah most definitely. thought im a lik conflicted with the ending. faye jet and ed did not have a proper conclusion to see where they gone to. and now im just left with depression.

I think Faye had a proper conclusion considering she was probably the most developed character in the show. Kids these days want to see a conclusive ending for everything and everyone in their shows.

>"kids these days"

frankly i think every character got a sufficient conclusion. i think what they were trying to say is they don't get closure (i.e. we don't know how Faye responds to losing Spike) which is different, and an intentional decision on the part of the writer.

making it about "kids these days" just seems kinda funny to say... i am Gen Z but i doubt that has any bearing on my desire (or lack thereof, since i don't really mind) for Jett or Ed from Cowboy Bebop to have thorough closure lol

He didn't go there to die, he went to see if he was truly alive

Yet he died anyway.

It's pretty straightforward with the 20 different times it was foreshadowed

He died. Thematically fits with the theme of the show and it's implied using tons of symbolism.

Looked pretty dead to me. I didn’t want to believe it though so I did some searching online for answers. There’s a cowboy bebop movie if you want a side story from the series.

I think he died at the end, how could he not?
I finished Cowboy Bebop immediately after finishing Banana Fish…it was an emotional night to say the least.
