Played introductory and finished one route of closing chapter few years back.

IMO, closing chapter is a drag with 3 new romantic characters plus Setsuna but no Kazuha. Also the settings are stressful juggling between college life and working life in office and restaurant.

I wish they could’ve continue with the music route but too bad, it’s just a plot device.

Might play CODA since it’s fully translated but adult drama... hmm.

Truth is absolute but human perception of truth is always relative.

I've been playing it (going through Setsuna route in coda at the moment) and it is pretty surprising how much more expansive the situation gets compared to the anime adaptation. The anime adaptation has its moments, but the visual novel is a whole another level. Pretty insane. Maruto Fumiaki is a really good romance writer. Haruki Kitahara really is the "indecisive" romance MC taken to the extreme, though he is likeable in his own way.

I personally liked it. It was good enough to follow the story but again there are people out there who learn Japanese to read VNs so I'm afraid I may not be an authority on the subject

Of course you are not. What you "read" is a fanfiction after all. WA2 simply wouldn't work in any other language. Remove Maruto's writing and it would lose all of its quality, left as an empty shell of its former self.

How much do you weigh? Can't believe you unironically put the "read" in quotation marks. I've never really understood the obsession within the weeb community about how precise the translation should be anyway. I do appreciate you pointing out that the fan translation is not exactly extremely high quality but they put in a lot effort so that people could "read" the VN in English and I personally enjoyed it. Call me uncultured or whatever but that's enough to recommend to other people. I'm not gonna fucking learn the moon runes just to read some VN.

I read the VN and I highly recommend it to everyone who liked the show. From the perspective of my troubled past love life, this VN is hyper realistic and quite impressive.
Regarding the Todokanai TL patch: the translation is actually quite close to the original Japanese, from what I can hear in voiced sections. It's less poetic, but I wouldn't say it's bad. It's surely better than many commercial translations I've seen.
