Maybe OVA’s but not new adaptations, especially clannad, the last couple episodes of after story did not sit well with me and don’t get me wrong I like fuko but no nagisa and no ushio and no tomoya wtf do you mean?
I recently finished kanon and that anime was so good it made me feel all sorts of emotions.
Air doesn’t need a new adaptation but it could’ve been better, it’s no clannad or Kanon but it’s aight.
I don’t think we need new adaptations, but rather OVAs. Air was successful enough to not need a second adaptation, and Kanon got better treatment by Kyoto with their adaptation. They are a little older, yes, but Little Busters just got Kud Wafter adapted a few months ago. There might not be enough content for an OVA, but I haven’t played the VNs, so who knows?
Rewrite doesn't work for anime. Not like Clannad and most Key. It's like 5 independent plots you can't merge them. Like that s*** proves it. Maybe it will work in ova format.
The remake of Kanon was good. Air is older yes. But I think its fine.

And expecting they will be better than the existing adaptations? I will be surprised if that will be the case. What need to be remade are Rewrite, Little Busters, and Angel Beats, in that order of priority.
I would be pretty happy to see Air receive a remake if they could find a way to fix the atrocious directing that plagued the series from start to finish.
Kanon has two (2002 and 2005), but Air afaik only has one (2003).
There's also the 2005 movie version. And no, unlike many other series, it's not just a compilation movie of the series, but a separate quite different thing from another studio.
In defense of Air, I think most people still doesn't realize how good Air anime is, and how influential it actually is even to this day.
Aside from its influence in pushing KEY from being a big new name in VN industry (at the time) into a dynasty, in establishing KyoAni as a top animation studio, in giving a lot of people great CV that allowed them to be big in the industry even to this day,
Air the anime established a formula in how to cut a previously not-storyboarded story into the limited frame that is anime broadcast (12-13 episodes x 20-24 minutes, including OP ED) without cutting the essence of why the story is told.
While 12-13 episodes "1 season" anime have been around for ages, the time Air was made and aired was a time when you start getting more of them, and it's getting harder for anime to get a time slot beyond 1 or 2 seasons.
Bfr Air, people did it like how KEY did at their Kanon (2002) adaptation with Toei animation. That thing rushed a lot of parts, not giving people enough time to understand subconsciously why they're feeling what they're feeling. (A mistake some new anime are making again these days).
Air still had some elements of that method of rushing a story. But while KyoAni cut some plot point, Air anime didn't cut the essence of the story in Air VN. KyoAni would rather cut some plot point in order to give the important feel-bait scenes enough time, than rush stuff. Some part that they couldn't cut but didn't do as much in terms of nuance building was still there and had to be rushed, but KEY & KyoAni played out the important long scenes as if Air had more timeslot than it really had. They barely kept the technical structure of the story (to the distraught of a lot of those self-proclaimed "storywriter" and "anime theorist") and decided to give the space for nuance-building. Ofc, "nuance' is actually the main reason why you decide to tell a story, or to read/listed/watch a story. A story can employ every single narrative tricks known to man, if you don't find them interesting, then it's shit. KEY & KyoAni, acknowledging that the plot shouldn't stand above the experience the viewers get, decide to sacrifice some technical aspect of the story for the sake of "getting the feels" (the important part of the story) across.
Furthermore Air anime employed a lot of animation narrative tricks that has now since became the trademark of KyoAni and people have been trying to copy for years (with mixed success). Hinting dialogues, subtle changes in expression and postures, in which cases sakuga is more effective to "the feels" and in which cases in-animation is more effective, instead. That's the reason why people who did work on Air (be as KyoAni employee or freelancer) most, if not all, became big names once their work with KEY-KyoAni anime adaptation is done.
They don't need to readapt Air. Readaptation for anime alr as successful and legendary as Air would only be cash-milking and ruining the memory of the experience we get from the first adaptation.
just look at Evangelion sequels, which god knows how far have it swayed from the og. Does it make money? Yes. Is it better? If you go technical, maybe, but in terms of experience it's utter shite, compared to the og Evangelion storyline (so anime -> The End movie).
and they don't need to remake Kanon again. As some have alr pointed out above.
Instead of remaking Air and Kanon, they should instead adapt Summer Pocket (which I'm sure is alr in the works. Rumors have been around since a long time ago).
Air, Kanon (-06) and Clannad are already known as the KyoAni Holy Trinity, one definitely shouldn't to just go and remake them..
Instead of remaking KyoAni's work, letting the studio do something new from KEY would be best option.
Just watching at these Tomoyo After references really makes me want to see a full anime of it. :(
Intelligent gets through situations which wise avoids.
If they receive something new and legit, it should be done by KyoAni.
With that said, I always hated how Kanon 2006, the MC still picked the same girl he did in the 2002 verson (Ayu). In the 2006 version, he should have picked his cousin (Nayuki). Because he picked the same girl, it made Kanon 2002 for the most part a meaningless anime (even though is an underrated anime in my opinion).
As for Clannad, it is fine as it is. However, I would like an extra episode of everyone just having a fun day together, with Tomoya and Nagisa acting as parents for Ushio together, and everyone just having a nice picnic or something with ALL the characters involved: Sunohara, Mei, Kyou, etc.
Air definitely needs a remake with more episodes and the main focus being the female MC, male MC, and the past.
