I'm about to start Claymore and was thinking which format would have the better experience. Should I go with the sub or dub?

From memory, I think I preferred the sub, but I'd give both a shot and see what you prefer.

Go with sub, this show isn't so visual that you'd want a dub. And the VA cast for the sub is stacked, including one of my favorites, Romi.

The best way to experience Claymore is reading Manga. As for Anime, I think sub would be better.

The Dubbed version is notoriously terrible. Go for the Subtitled instead.
Well I for one already loved Lain.

Watched the sub and enjoyed it, thanks. As for the manga, where should I kick off after finishing the anime or should I just start from the beginning again?

It's been a while since I read the manga, so I don't remember exactly, but if you want to continue from where the anime ended, I think it should be around chapter 51. As you might know, the anime had an original ending, it diverged from the Manga during the battle of the north. The Manga's ending is much better.

Again, I'm not sure, but I think the anime only adapted 9-10 volumes, so I'd recommend, reading it from the start, since it's only about 30% of the whole thing. But you can continue from where the anime ended as well, it's up to you.

I watched the dub primarily because the setting and characters are European-based.
• The dub is good, especially for the claymores. Clare (the MC claymore) has differing attitudes depending on dub/sub. Dub sounds like a tough, confident, lady warrior. Sub has a more calm/composed voice with a much lighter tone than the dub. Both dub/sub voices fit the claymores' aesthetic. The dub fits the stereotypical strong female warrior aspect while the sub reflects the claymores' level of emotional restraint at all times.
• The biggest letdown for the dub would be Raki's English VA. He has an annoying whiny voice for the character, which technically makes sense given his age, but it takes time to get use to it. His sub voice sounds more sincere.
• The dub's other shortcomings is the side/background characters. Some just lack enough emotional nuance in their voice.
• The sub, overall, is great. All the characters sound as they are suppose to with regards to their attitude and demeanor.

TLDR: Sub is great overall, dub is good with claymores, Raki dubbed is a letdown.
