| I think it can be attributed to how back in the day it was used to prank people who didn't know about it and were less than amused once they realized what was going on. There are way worse stuff out there and BnP is wholesome in comparison, it just happens to be well-known. As a side note, one thing people are misunderstanding is that pedophilia and child molestation are completely separate things; one represents just an attraction, the other is an act one chooses to do. |

| Normally I'm fine with loli and shota stuff, but my problem with Boku no Pico is that it's yaoi with an older man and a little boy. I'd say the same for a yuri with an older woman and a little girl. I think I've come to realize something about myself. I am a lolicon, but when it involves a large age difference I can't handle it. I guess even I have my own limits when it comes to this. Though it's more so a "not my taste" kinda thing, I don't go around preaching for it to be banned and I can actually tell the difference between fiction and reality lol. "Oh but TheAngryNerd! | This is an easy question to answer. You see, most people don't watch hentai, and so are unfamiliar with other, worse, hentai. The only reason these people know about Boku no Pico is because it became a meme to recommend it to newer anime fans; being new, these people haven't seen much beyond some battle shounen and maybe an isekai harem or two, so Boku no Pico comes as a complete shock to them. Of course, it doesn't help that this is a dead meme at this point, having been overused to the point it's annoying rather than funny. If you've seen enough other hentai, Pico won't be all that shocking. All that said, as someone who has seen plenty of hentai, I personally dislike it. I'm just not into shotacon, so it's not for me. |

Because they're normies. 99% of the criticism I've seen of Boku no Pico is that it's "creepy" and "pedophilic", and then many of them come to the ridiculous conclusion that it's the worst anime/hentai ever (as if there's not WAY more degenerate hentai out there, like Bible Black for example). In reality however it's really not bad at all, and for people who are into shota/yaoi it's actually pretty good in my opinion. It's just a case of a hentai becoming a popular enough meme that normies en masse caught wind of it and clutched their pearls as a result. It's always best to ignore the opinions of people who scream "pedophilia!" every time they see loli/shota stuff.

| Hot take, but I think a huge part of its reputation online as a piece of shock media has to do with homophobia. Don't get me wrong, I think sexualizing children in any context is disgusting and that the OVA is irredeemable, but there are innumerable hentai OVAs that depict underage girls in even more repulsive scenarios so a lot of the shock value this had online in the 00s and 10s had to do with discomfort around the idea of gay sex in general. Again, I can't stress enough that I think pedophilia is always wrong in all contexts and that Boku no Pico is nothing short of vile, but I'm just pointing out that there is an obvious double standard when you look at what the anime community is generally permissive of in hentai. |

| The homophobia points brought up are interesting because I watched/read far worse hentai with lolis that were actually really creepy because the adult male character just gives off actual predator vibes, with how creepy they act irl. that isn't a thing at all with boku no pico, and it really is tame compared to most hentai. And never made too much sense why that got so much negative attention and was labeled as the "worst" anime when it's nothing remotely close to that lol |
