THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
The season finale is here but honestly, I didn't feel it was good as the first few episodes.

Tilarna is showing a more of her own personal feelings again dealing with the problems in the city again. Some of the violence also returns in this finale. It's better than some of the mid-season episodes I supppose. Felt like the show dropped the ball during its mid-season episodes after the impressive start. Now at the end, we get a decent episode but that alone can't carry the rest of the series.

Cop Craft had great OP and ED, but inconsistent storytelling and animation almost ruined it.

Pretty much echo the same feelings I had with this show. When it does good, it can't get good and when it does dirty, it doesn't get any dirty enough.

Zelada managed to get the upper hand at the last minute, but the way how Kei and Tilarna worked together to defeat him was great.

But when all is said and done...only the 1st 4 episodes were the highlight of the series, the remaining 2/3rds can just be "another" show on its own.

This show had the potential to be good, and it missed it by a landslide.

Lol both Tilarna and Kei were brutal, Tilarna with her words and kei with that leg lock. Also when they swicthed their weapons that was pretty cool honestly. Anyway this was a really promising show at the begining but then it was kinda bad but I got to watch cute Tilarna every week so who cares XD. Tilarna really was cute in the entire series. Well wonder if this will get a new season.

This show was one big wasted opportunity, the lame conveniences of the last episode were consistent throughout the show. Unless you were here for the Tilarna loli fanservice this show didn't have much to offer.

Honestly, the way they took down Zelada was pretty badass.

Overall, this was a decent series. Yeah, the first four episodes were better compared to the rest of the show and those above me has stated. It was still the one show I look forward to every Mondays. 6/10.

i'd complain about the massive failure of the production value, but honestly, the story wasn't too interesting either. would rather re-watch District 9 where they don't go on a political level and achieve much more than this

the first 1-2 episodes actually looked quite ambitious, but on episode 3 and after, the story had all sorts of weird directions. pretty sad, but what can you do about it

They killed Zelada in the most brutal way possible, even Tilarna was flabbergasted by the whole ordeal! I guess he deserved it though after dissing porn and rock music. I'm also glad Marla got arrested, I really didn't like the bitch. I thought for a second there Tilarna would forgive her, but hell yeah. Too bad Randall had to die, after being so overly cautious for so long. That forgiveness to the police guy was funny, I should do that someday!

I really enjoyed the partnership of Kei and Tilarna. They didn't force their combination, it came naturally and definitely wasn't superficial at all. Although the animation quality was a little bit odd, I still liked it. The story was dancing around, but it wasn't bad for me. Overall I quite enjoyed and will miss it on my Mondays. I hope for season 2 someday.

7/10.

This episode reminded me about how little screen-time Zelada got despite being the main villain.

The series had solid cultural commentary and witty lines sometimes. I like the setting in principle because it is nice to have a more realistic city now and then. Still, more world-building would not have hurt, especially because they never actually set foot on the Semanian planet.

More plot cohesion would have also helped. Special award for wasting time goes to that abysmally terrible cat body swap episode.

6/10 for the series overall. It was decent, I guess. Great potential, missed some of it.

The ending really was underwhelming. All the exposition served on a silver tablet, the undead which were difficult enemies for Matoba knocked down like bowling pins and the animation was not at the series' best level. Biggest disappointment was Zeradas whole behaviour, motives and embarrasing ending. 'Muh sensitive ears, the water and there goes my head'

The series started with a lot of potential but especially towards the end things went downhill. Its definetly unique and I'll rewatch it sooner or later, but one can only wonder how good it could have been with sufficent budget.

Quite the predictable finale in all honesty to what has been a fairly average-to-fine show!

Matoba kicking some arse and that teamwork to take down Zelada was pretty awesome though, I've to say. Zelada had his fair share of opportunities but failed to utilise it totally, resulting in the horrific death. I'm sure most would've nightmares after all such an ordeal, Matoba lol. Pretty lazy final moments before the Op too, I felt. But they got the point across, so no biggies. Loved that forgiveness act bit too xD, well played Matoba! Tilarna's "Because of .. You" was a nice addition too, definitely thumbs up to that!

Overall, this show started off strong but then quickly derailed off I reckon. Story-wise, it was filled with ups and downs but the Character Dynamics throughout especially between the two main leads has been a treat to watch on the other hand. Animation Quality kept getting worse by the episode too sadly but it wasn't despicable by any means so props to the Studio for fighting hard against the odds (schedueling issues, I mean). Sound Department-wise though, this show did a great job! Op, ED themes and the OSTs overall were really good and the VA department was even better imo! Kenjirou Tsuda's voice is just gold and this plus Matoba's lively attitude was a treat to watch really and I quite liked Zelada's VA in this episode too!

Got to say, I appreciated some of the moral themes the show touched upon though, and the issues of society that was expanded upon throughout the run. I'm looking forward to more Police story of this sort in the near future.

To sum it up however, it'll go down as one of those shows that couldn't live up to its potential.

=> Considerate 6/10 from me. A 5/10 would probably be more appropriate but it was a fun watch nevertheless so a little bump from there, I suppose.

Nice episode. This show is like the epitome of a 7/10 anime.
Not crap, nor amazing. Just good. You aren't on the edge of your seat or looking super forward for the next episode. But every episode is fun and you're shocked when the ED rolls around and you're asking yourself "where'd the time go?".

Gotta agree that the animation was a bit whacky at times, but eh, whatever. Definitely one of the best shows this season, from what i've seen anyway.

Someone, anyone, Yen Press, J-Novel Club, a dedicated fan translator, I don’t care, please bring us an English translation of the light novels!

Man, I’m nowhere proficient enough in Japanese to read the og source (...yet, hopefully) and once again, another series I would actually care about is probably doomed to never get an English release. Sigh.

Til and Kei were such good fun each week and I’m gonna miss this show despite its wonky production.

it's a shame a show like this had to be halfassed to the point it's just barely watchable.
the plot was mediocre, the characters were great and would be able to carry the show if only they'd have enough sol moments to shine.
I really liked the premise. if only the show was about tirana kei arguing to no end, accidentally solving the case while doing so instead of being force fed some super generic plot.
the art was fucking horrid, simple as that. having blurry still images for action scenes? really? in the end this broke the anime for me.
I still want a 2nd season but by bones. I don't care much for them but this feels like their territory. millepensee aka milipenis ruins everything it touches.

The funny thing is that Kei's password was probably "fuck you" for real :D.

The way they ended Zelada was amazing and the switching of weapons was a very nice touch.

I wouldn't mind another season but it probably won't get one, the budget is just not up to par and it was evident they barely scrapped by.

Eh, there goes another Mc Donalds show I won't remember I ate just a few days later.

Wished they didn't go with the over the top move on Kei decapitating Zelada, what?! they expect us to think he had some samurai training and he's able to properly wield an alien sword in order to go for a clean cut? it would have looked more beliveable if he just stabbed Zelada in the back and plunge his weight forward to hit his vitals, it would have been just as impactful, but it would had been easier to believe.

Zelada monologuing just to make time for Kei to arrive was the dumbest writing and execution I've seen in quite a while. I can understand that Millipense has very little manpower in terms of animators, but this is straight up duty for the director and the writer adapting it to make it work with the proper timming.

It gets a 5/10 from me. It would have gotten a 6/10 if we didn't have that duo episode with Tilarna swapping bodies with a cat and peeing in a sandbox. I would have prefered it if the series had only 10 episodes if there was no way to replace those 2 episodes with something better.

This entire show should be the dictionary definition of 'disappointment', and this particular episode should be the dictionary definition of 'anticlimactic'.

3/10. Would have been higher if I didn't feel so let down. The opening scene of the show had me hyped and it was all downhill from there. I honestly regret not dropping it after the crossbow arc.

8/10. Overall a great show. Likeable characters. No annoying stuff or annoying chars. Setting was cool and the OP/ED and the action were nice. Plot was okay - but that was not the main focus and the show made it clear very early when the first arc ended only after 3.5 episodes.

Last episode was good as well. Woul have liked some better plot/explanation about the backgrounds with the mayor killings. Then again that would have taken more time do explain it well and the focus on action + Zelada wanting the races to hate each other was nice and the end with turning in the evidence (so Tilarna helped Tourte who hated Semanians - but she wanted to do the right thing and not bend the law) and the other police officer apoligizing ... felt good. There are better last episodes. But a lot of anime are worse and don't manage event hat level.

Sooo ... a bit underrated. I know people find it rushed and don't like the plot. But if you compare to Grancrest Senki that has 7.23 or so ... and is lot worse ... oh well I guess that one had the fanasy bonus. ;)

Would have expected this one more between 7.5 and 7.8 but it is fine as long as it does not fall below 7.00.

2nd best show for me this season. Only Carole & Tuesday is better. Vinland Saga on same level though and recently getting stronger and better a lot.

Did anyone else notice Kei and Tilarna switched their weapons in the final fight? I think that was neat how he finished him off with her sword.

It's still hard to tell since theres no direct translation of the source material how far/accurately along within the story we are. Anyways, I wish we got a little more character development for Zelada. The climax was pretty cool honestly.

I'm a fan of the world but hopefully the production value can be ticked up and now we all got introuduced to the source material which helps.

Lmao, that password was a genius play from Kei xD

While i do agree with everyone that the animation was kinda painful to look at sometimes, it didn't bug me at all. And i also think this anime is pretty damn good. Kei and Tilarna's partenrship just won me over, i loved it man! And i also think that the first episodes were absolutely awesome and that it kinda lost intensity through the rest of the show, but that didn't matter to me, because the main characters called out to me and their interactions managed to keep me entertained all the time. It's a solid 8/10 from me.

There is a good story and characters here that was let down by erratic direction and animation shortcuts. It this was done by Bones or MAPPA it could have been an 8 or 9 easy. I'm going to give a solid 7 as I still enjoyed the show.

Still get's 5/10 because it was actually watchable( and had one of the best openings this season)

Absolutely underwhelming episode, which describes almost every other episode from episode 4 to this.

This could have gone somewhere, but it went in every wrong direction after the first three episodes. The art is horrible and inconsistent.

At least I got a lot of chuckles looking at tedious character animations between all the long still image shots and horrific transitions.

Watch the OP and ED. That's all the worth this show has to offer.

Started really nicely & promising, what I first liked was the sort of retro/polar atmosphere (policemen in their car, smoking in suits, etc).

But then hum, the rythm changed and I had the feeling the story lost itself in irrelevant things such as the crossbow that turned Tilarna into a cat.

However I liked it overall, it had a good potential. The ending lets me think that the story's concluded & finished for all.

Great final episode, I am satisfied. Kei and Tilarna's combined attack on Zelada was really cool.
I say goodbye to one of my favorite anime of the season, it was not the best, but it was good and entertaining. I leave with the desire that if they perform a second season of this anime, they improve the animation in the action scenes. I will miss that duo.

Ps: Maybe Matoba's password was FUCK*NG, hahaha. I loved the scene of Zelada's head flying, LOL.

Quite unbalance this show was. Only the heroine is cute and the others are like characters of American comic drawn in some anime-developing country. Also the lines are full of cheap flavour. In spite of these annoying settings, there were some lovely moments and that's the only relief.

Eh, not bad, it could have been much better if it had more episodes like the first few episodes. It had quite a lot of world building potential, but it was entirely focused on planet Earth, after 12 episodes we don't even know how the other side looks like or how their culture is; the animation could have been a lot better, it had quite a lot of still frames and animation inconsistencies, but still looks better than berserk (same studio).

Leave the bad things aside, I liked the Key and Tilarna enough to want a second season, and it had some histories that most mystery anime out there fear to talk about. The clash between both cultures was interesting, seeing how it all led to something similar to what have been happening in the last few years felt a bit cheap, but made me realize it is the kind of things that happen once you have a large influx of undocumented people travel to another territory (nationalism raises then gets destroyed later).

I want to see if the right wing candidate actually affects the history or if he was just used as a plot devise, but I am well aware season 2 is not happening and that LNs are not going to get translated.

The show started off strong and then gradually nose dived. I said it before and I'll say it again: the number of still frames they used was atrocious. Rather than fully animate fight scenes they'd show a few singular frames in rapid succession, as if that was a good replacement.

They also tried to avoid animating a lot of movements, particularly walking and running. Matoba's arms and legs are hidden while he walks and it looks like he is just bobbing up and down. It bothered me before but in this episode it stood out even more.

They seemed to have cut corners on SFX as well. In this episode for example, when Zelada starts to attack Tilarna, the sound effects seem WAY off and hollow. Like the noises were random and distributed incorrectly.

Cop Craft had a lot of potential. The first 3 episodes had everything moving in the right direction. Then as the animation quality dropped the story started to follow the same path. The characters weren't bad but everything else about the show was a letdown.

well there goes another show which started off AoTS worthy. Shame really, we don't get to see that many good character chemistries lately that actually stick for the whole show and not die off halfway through (which this show more or less did). Oh well, this last episode was actually pretty nice and almost reminded me of the first few, but it never did quite reach the 1st 2 eps level in the end

and my god they even added a Lamborghini Urus at the end lmao

more effort to their cars than their animation/10

Well, surprisingly they managed to give a proper conclusion to the case within 20 minutes. Of course, it wasn't perfect and some part of me still thinks that the way they killed Zelada was easier than expected but I don't mind it that much, honestly.

Now, leaving eps. 3 and 8 aside, it was a quite entertaining series overall. Loved the chemistry between the main duo and the sarcastic comedy was very fitting for this kind of shows.
On the other hand, my only two BIG complains with this anime would be the animation (obviously) and the terrible "Tilarna switches bodies with a cat" episode. I still don't know what the studio was thinking when they decided to include a lame fanservice plot line in the middle of a running arc but what's done, it's done I guess.

6,5/10 -> 6/10 - I wouldn't mind a second season but if it ever happens, I wish a more competent studio can produce it.

Meh, this show was pretty average. The music was good and the premise and the first couple episodes were great and really promising but it just got worse and worse each episode finally culminating in a perfectly average ending. I didn't hate it aside from the cat episodes and some of the blatantly obnoxious preachiness, but overall it was just okay. Glad it's over though.

The aniamtion and artwork sucked.

The storytelling can be a little meh sometimes.

The writing was great though.

If they can get a better studio for season 2 this show can take the next step. I really like the show.

I do think the final episode was okay, but I feel Zeleda was crappy villian as his whoel reasoning and rationale, was bland, boring, and stupid. "I'm going to start a war because those stupid human stuff ruining my culture!" It's really dumb! Liek seriously....you're doing all this because how dare the Semians like some of human culture? this wasn't bad overall, but it definitely felt like a train losing momentum after the midpoint. The animation is overly reliant on still frames which I thought was something of a rarity in this day and age.

some weak points in dialogue, eg. episode 10; you'd think humans would've stopped giving Tilarna shit by now, whether flat earth atheism or telling her to not commit murder when the perps are probably zombies

I think the rejection of Western culture / non-Western fundamentalism as a part of cross-cultural contact here as a central theme is pretty interesting, which began with the beginning of this anime to the end. Japan is a model example of this, as part of its 1930s ultra-nationalism was an ideological war against the West and Western culture, even including assassination attempts on Charlie Chaplin. I feel that some important in-world history was not properly explained when alluded to, eg. the war and apparently the pre-war Semanian ownership of the land itself.

However, this episode didn't really unpack the reason why Coal's wife had him whacked. Some explanation like Marla is not able to divorce or something because of status, politics or Semanian law/custom or maybe she could divorce in an American teritory but she chooses a murder for some other advantage. It's not resolved. In fact, it doesn't even make sense. Marla already murdered a prostitute to ensure Coal would be politically successful...but then she kills him?...wat?

The actual working of the conspiracy was flimsy. Why back Coal when there is a guy running on anti-Semanian sentiment? As a crime / mystery show, I find this last arc to be a total failure.

I think that prosecuting Mrs. Mozeleamy was a big mistake, it's hard to believe things "settled down" as Tourte is taking office.

Tilarna gave the speech I expected about moral flexibility, and as I expected Tilarna let the least bad candidate win. Except the writer has decided that causing social instability and exploiting hate is less bad for society than letting a woman who murdered her husband become a potentially decent administrator.

So it's not quite the film noir moment I expected in which Tilarna has had character development to the point of even letting a murder to go unpunished for the greater good.

Yeah it had a really good start, but episode 3 was a nightmare in just about every aspect. I did like the story quite a bit for the political arc, but it was still plagued with production issues. That unfortunately was the case pretty much the entire series. I'd probably rate the LN higher, but this fell short.
