Really getting into shows like Diebuster and Utena right now, but 40 episodes is a pretty big commitment. Utena was 39 episodes and it didn't need to be. It's still a masterpiece but that Black Rose arc was fucking boring.

Is Rose of Versailles similar or is it a relatively straightforward show? I prefer over-arcing stories not episodic adventures.

Maybe you could cut the story in a few "chapters". I remember a few "independant" episodes but I mostly saw the series as one continuous story.

@FMmatron Your memory is fresher than mine.

Rose of Versailles is pretty much straight forward. It has "mini arcs" but they're all connected with each other. So yeah, the strongest aspect of the series was the overarching plot which will keep you hooked from the very beginning.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

The only thing I know about this show is that the second half is directed by Dezaki, so I'd assume this is when the show gets even better :D

So I gave the first couple episodes a shot and yeah it really does get you right from the beginning. There's a clear establishment of characters and goals and an intriguing plot to build the rest of the show around.

If it maintains this pace then I'll definitely sick around to the end.

I liked it after the princess becomes Queen the most.

there is a later arc that is a bit lower in quality that you will definitely realize but the arc also has consequences.

Can't say I agree with what the others are saying. I just watched episode 19 which, by no coincidence, is when the new director took over and it's really good. Before that the show's quality was weighed with a ball and chain by soap opera directing, shoujo garbage, and the constant presence of Marie Antoinette. If you're not a fan of shoujo it's pretty painful to watch. Only reason I stayed for nearly 20 episodes was glimpses of greatness when the director didn't rear his ugly head and because the great music. Even then I had to watch the episodes on 2x speed. If you cut out all the soap opera shit and condensed the pacing, then the first 18 episodes would be pretty decent.

Imo Episode 1 was good, Episode 2-8 where the first story arc happened were pretty boring but it ended with a good Episode 9 and ever since the show really only gets better. I just finished Episode 19 which was the best episode so far.

@CantfindUsername Bruh, I just finished episode 3, and this shit is exciting. I love the power struggles between Madame Du Barry, and Marie Antoinette.
