Such a sweet episode! With just enough humor thrown in for balance, as is typical with Gintama. Loved it. I sooooo want Hasegawa to be happy in the end! He deserves it, poor guy - he has such a good heart.

TFW a little kid giving a class presentation about how he kept a middle aged man living in his doghouse can give you massive feels. This episode literally encapsulates everything that makes this show a masterpiece. I have no words

Funny, yet emotional without ruining the tone of each part. A story that can only be told in Gintama!

Wow, what a masterpiece of an episode. Hasegawa really is an amazing character, I even teared up a little at the end. Every time he has an opportunity to stop being a Madao, he gives it up for the sake of someone else.

- Wierd, funny and Emotional this ep had it all.
- The teacher was funny too.
- Written and Directed by : MOM, best part xd

Well, that was definitely the best Madao episode, it was awesome. Madao is such a nice guy, but I guess it's his destiny to stay a Madao forever!

That was actually a really good episode, Madao sacrificing himself so his father could come back.
Also the plot twist at the end, "Written by Mom"

This was the best Madao and one of the best Gintama episodes no doubt. It was so beautiful, funny and emotional, I cried at the end.
The first part was hilarious with the teacher's comments and the second part was so heartfelt. The overall tone of the episode and transition from comedy to seriousness was done perfectly. It just shows everything this show does right.
Poor Hasegawa, he has such a good heart. He definitely deserves better.

That episode was a masterpiece. Madao's sacrifice was heartbreaking. He is a Madao but he is also a hero. He could have got his whole life together and in the end of it all he was drinking water. Loved the directing of the episode. Easy 5/5.

Only gintama can make episodes both super funny depressing and touching all at the same time, i think this was the best singular episode till now it has everything.

I love how the mom went from "you gotta take better care of IT and make sure IT won't escape again"
To asking her son if he wants a new daddy.

Also i hope i wont become a madao in the future lol

I usually dislike Madao episodes because they're boring af but this one was one of the best from the whole season tbh. The end credits showing Daigoro's mom did all the work was an amazing twist lol

Went in with intentions to rush the episode but came out touched. Such a beautiful episode. Imagine if Hasegawa-san would have decided to nail the interview what a happy family they could've been...but oh well he's already got a wife which he loves.

I only comment on these episode threads if I really liked or really disliked the episode, and thankfully this was the former. An absolutely fantastic episode, good comedy and lots of feels, and really makes you feel bad while also increasing your respect for Hasegawa. I thought it was going to be a regular Madao episode where he's just treated like shit for comedic value but I was pleasantly surprised. 5/5
This anime shit is addictive

Madao blooms beautifully.

Truly a touching episode, one of Gintama's best, blending perfectly the humor and heartfelt moments. Good thing the humor never gets out of place, is timed perfectly to let the emotions truly brim to its fullest. And here I thought only humor really works well with Gintama, glad I was proven wrong.

I find it almost impossible not to feel bad for Hasegawa. Everytime you think his life might finally turn around, something goes wrong. He did a noble thing in this episode, but man it's still so sad to watch him.

(madao had already bloomed)

Such a tragic and emotional novel. His mother was the one who wrote the novel lmao. That was unexpected news. But, this made me like Hasegawa's character even more. We all know that he's a good guy deep inside. But he's still a madao..

PS: Naruto's voice LOL

This episode is one of the greatest in all of anime. It's romantic, dramatic, sad and comedic. The best part is that you don't have to watch the anime to understand the episode, it's truly a work of art. I cried when he chose to live his life as a madao for the better of anothers family. Especially when I found out it was water he was drinking. I feel like I'm overexaturating but I really like it that much.

..what was up with this kid's hair? Also, shame on him for cheating, even if it was a genius final twist

After these details, insert parkour meme here because of how this show pulls off switching from sad to funny moments with this level of perfection. The framing device of a summer diary at the return to school was clever, as it was the teacher always interrupting the story told in such a monotone voice and also the other kids wanting to be informed about how it ended.

Of course it ended with Madao being Madao, but it was so well made overall.
