 It was announced that Inio Asano's Oyasumi Punpun (Goodnight Punpun) will be licensed for English release by Viz Media in 2016. The announcement was made by Viz Media at their Otakon Panel.Oyasumi Punpun began publishing in March 2007 and was initially serialized in the now defunct seinen magazine Weekly Young Sunday. It was later transferred to Big Comic Spirits magazine, and the series ended in November 2013 with 13 compiled volumes. The manga tells the story of a young boy, Punpun, whose life was changed when his father was arrested. With his uncle taking care of him, he grows up and realizes just how it seems to be an adult. In 2009, the manga received a Jury Recommendation at the 13th Japan Media Arts Festival Awards. This will be Asano's fifth work to be licensed in English. Solanin and Subarashii Sekai (What a Wonderful World!) are also licensed and were published by Viz in 2008 and 2009, respectively. Fantagraphics Books licensed and published Nijigahara Holograph in 2014. Vertical will also be releasing Umibe no Onnanoko (A Girl on the Shore) in early 2016. Viz also announced that they will publish Blanc et Noir (Black and White), an art book mainly containing Death Note illustrations by original mangaka Takeshi Obata. Then there was like an artsy "shaft esque" adaptation of it airing on tv lmao. My dreams are lame usually, but I think I'm a prophet. Just bought Solanin about a month ago, so this is great news. Wonder how viz will handle the nudity? Usually other publishers like Dark Horse get those types. |

Not to mention sex isn't exactly the most disgusting thing done throughout the story (if you even find sex gross, which I don't think most people do). I don't see how either of your statements make a manga bad, either. |

| The time have come (and so do Inio Asano's american fans) I already own all the volumes in French version , but I'm still very interested because I'll be curious to know if the size , covers and all that will be the same , if there will be some little bonus interviews at the end of the volumes and such . By the way that make me remember : it seems some of the "next volume preview" at the end of each volumes were not scanned/translated . They are usually filled with heavy cynical and cringe black humor (the one at the end of volume 5 with the false fan letters adressed to Asano is hilarious) . So it's another thing to look forward for the english readers if they appear in this new edition . Anyway , that's some damn good news , and anything that can make more people aware of Asano's works and talent is to be gladly taken . And maybe the fact that it will be licensed in english will make it eligible for some american comics/manga awards and such . |
