Unicorn is certainly the best Gundam. Nice to see Love Live, Idol Master,Madoka, Monogatari and Kara no Kyoukai there.
But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

http://www.classzone.com/books/lnetwork_gr08/page_build.cfm?content=analyz_media&ch=30

It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist.

Yayz for so much Haikyuu! And I can't believe 2 of my most fav. songs are there. Hyori Ittai (the song which actually got me into watching HxH, too epic) Butterfly Effects (Ryuugajou) was also one of my favs while it was airing. And Sekai wa Koi ni Ochiteiru is pure romantic melody... Hanayamata's OP and ED, too.

Yeah as far as single studios go Sunrise had an amazing 2014. One statistic many people probably won't even notice unless they look for it though is when you add up all the numbers the last Gundam Unicorn volume actually did a fair bit better than the Madoka movie as a result of the BD/DVD split with it again crossing the 200,000 threshold. Of course all of this is absolutely nothing compared to Frozen but that's just the difference between the Japanese animation industry and Disney. One kind of nice thing to see was Kaze Tinchu having decent numbers. Personally I vastly preferred Takahata's Kaguya Hime but at least one of the two men had a successful last hurrah.

Anyway I really wonder if Gundam The Origin can come even close to replicating what Unicorn did.

Sunrise and SHAFT dominated the list.

If you want to put it another way the top 2 publishers for anime this year will AGAIN be Aniplex and Bandai Visual with everyone else a VERY distant third. Another interesting thing is the several highly successful products they collaborated on like Gintama (Animated by Sunrise which is owned by Bandai but published and marketed by Aniplex) and iDOLM@STER (Animated by A-1 but owned and promoted by Bandai). There's other connections too between the too companies like Bandai making games for stuff like SAO and Madoka Magica as well as contributing some animation through Sunrise for both but not as obvious as the other ones. My question is how does anybody else ever really compete with that as a publisher and content provider. The next biggest one based in Japan is probably Pony Canyon but they'll have to wait till Titan is back to really make a splash again.

To make a comparison, how much Frozen sold (in Japan)? ^^

Noticed not as big as before, but still good. Sunrise strong.

It is, you just have to add up all the discs since it has a huge 3 way split unlike Madoka where pretty much everyone went for the premium limited edition package. If you add up all discs you end up with some pretty interesting numbers for Japanese animated productions this year

#1 Gundam Unicorn (208,487)
#2 Kaze Tinchu (202,176)
#3 Madoka Magica Rebellion (170,762)
#4 Gintama Kanketsu-Hen (136,721)
#5 Love Live Second Season Vol 1 (115,870)

Damn that is a lot of Monogatari sales, can't wait to finally start watching it, likewise Love Live! though I'm hesitant because I'm expecting disappointment somewhat. Gundam Unicorn 2nd pleases me, phenomenal series. SAO II just scraping into the top 50 is good to see as well.

CD Single

Geragerapo geragerapo geragerapoppo geragerapo
Geragerapo geragerapo geragerapoppo geragerapo

Cannot argue with that, incredibly catchy song, well deserving of those fantastic sales.

101. *61,177 Makakucity Actors OP/ED "daze/days" by Jin
103. *60,579 Ryuugajou Nanana no Maizoukin (TV) OP "Butterfly Effect" by Shiritsu Ebisu Chuugaku
110. *55,869 Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo OP "Kindan no Resistance" by Nana Mizuki
120. *51,298 Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei OP "Rising Hope" by LiSA
243. *28,355 Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn ED "StarRingChild EP" by Aimer
444. *14,443 Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei OP "grilletto" by GARNiDELiA
469. *13,459 Kill la Kill OP "ambiguous" by GARNiDeLiA

Well I certainly did not expect to see Nanana's OP up there, it's fab but I had not realised it sold so highly. The others my fave singles of the year that made the cut. Shame BLAZING did not, another wonderful song from GARNiDELiA.

That is if you bought it from storefront in Japan or had it shipped to a Japanese address. Oricon no longer includes sales from overseas customers in these numbers they release. They do count overseas sales in a separate ranking i'm guessing, but i've never seen such a ranking released.

Parasyte is not included as it is not released in disc format yet. The first and second volume set consisting of 12 episodes will be released on March 18 and July 22 2015 respectively.

Granted, from the history of Madhouse' DVD sales, I am not that hopeful that it would even crack at 2015 list. The only profitable studio based on disc sales and merchandises are Sunrise, Shaft, KyoAni and Ufotable (if they release something).

I don't get Japans media market at all. Why would one volume of Gundam sell enough to make 2nd place but none of the others feature in the list?

Obviously because this is the 2014 yearly sales, it is not cumulative sales. It covers the period of 2013/12/09 to 2014/12/07. Gundam UC Vol.6 was released on 2013/03/22, so unless it has an incredible boost along the track, it had no chance of charting in the 2014 yearly. It follows for Vol.5 and earlier.
