The best episode since episode 4 from season 1! Haven't laughed from a Space Dandy episode as much as I did when watching this one.

Surprised not many likened it to Kaiba. This whole episode was screaming Kaiba to me since the first few minutes.

the budget was high, you're confusing the animation style (which is amazing by the way, watch it again) with 'low budget'

First half of the episode wasn't that great. So far, the best have been ep 2, then ep 3 and finally ep 1 in that order.

I knew I was getting a Yuasa vibe from this episode. Between this and what he did for Adventure Time, he seems like the go-to director for surreal, nonsensical designs and animation these days. The change in design fit pretty well for the episode, making it seem like a good companion for the episode about the spore/flower planet in season one.

This episode was so serene and surreal.
It was fucking gorgeous to look at, too!
Still, I feel the story was lacking.

It was still a good episode, but... definitely the weakest one out of season 2 for me, thus far.

unique artstyle my ass, That ep looked awful as does ping pong, would rather watch cheap CGI, or even RWBY's animation over this eye cancer

I simply loved this episode as the others. The surf scene was incredible and stunning.
I also liked how the human nature was portrayed through intelligent fishes, with a implicit moral in the end. Dandy never disappoint.

It seems the next episode is going to be full-serious? Or at least I get these vibes from the preview.

The sailing part was breathtaking. It's rare to see that impressive animation on a TV series.
It also had few simple visual gags that worked purely because of the way it was animated, like Dandy throwing meow off the boat and tangling himself in the process. Humor in motions was overall more prominent in this episode than usual.

I dont really get that from the preview, It looked just kind of comedic considering its a high school thing.

Wonderful, Yuasa style is so appropriate for Space Dandy and its so different and odd worlds. I saw a lot of "Ping Pong" style in the scene where they were riding on the column of water but all the other scenes reminded me Kaiba.

Good episode; I couldn't help but notice in the ending credits that Yoko Kanno did music for Dandy? I mean it's not surprising considering its director but does anyone know what songs she did exactly? Dandy has a great soundtrack, so knowing Yoko was involved is only icing on the cake.

She wrote the ending theme and did the arrangement for the opening theme.

Anyway, loved this episode! Yuasa's style can be a bit of an acquired taste so I'm not surprised to see mixed reactions. (I'm a fan, though, I think he's incredibly talented.) I thought this episode was visually stunning, especially the water scene. Fun, interesting episode!

Liked the episode, but the animation was soooo bad. noticed in the first minute when dandy's face was a scribble in a scene. Seems like less money was spent on this episode.

Then i come here and there are people talking good about it? what the fuck you're shitting me

Yeah, I thought the animation was pretty bad lol. Though, the episode itself felt worse than others. Though, that is simply opinion haha.

My guess is they are having budget problems. The art quality and plotline quality seem to be changing back and forth from bad to good in each episode.
its not budget problems its the director's art style, he has the same art style in his previous shows the tatami galaxy, ping pong, and kaiba. see

Its a creative decision not a budgeting issue, I think the only episode that really looked there was a budgeting issue was episode 6

What happened to Cowboy Bebop's director directing the series? Did he hand it off to someone else? That would explain why I don't like it anymore.

omg do some research people.
1. watanabe only has a hand in the overall direction of the show, given that he is chief director and not the actual director (that would be Natsume Shingo).
2. space dandy is essentially a collection of auteur works - WHAT THAT MEANS is that each episode is written and directed by someone different (on quite a few occasions the director will also write the ep, and in the case of Yuasa Masaaki (this episode), also does the storyboards and basically everything else). This is why the animation style and tone seem to change every episode. It has nothing to do with budget. This show has a very good budget, and anyone calling the animation 'bad' needs to do some research into animation and art. This episode has by far the best animation of the entire show, alongside perhaps episode 9 from the previous season and episode 5 of this season.
3. Watanabe wrote the very first episode and episode 9 (which he co-wrote). That is all. He also came up with the characters I believe, and the general scenario. I imagine his involvement, especially this season, is super minimal.
4. The entire deal with Space Dandy is that it's a big cave and anyone creative is invited to come along and contribute something. It's a production experiment essentially (though only in basic terms, it's still very well managed - there's just a lot of creative freedom). This includes the soundtrack, which has like over twenty different people contributing tunes.

what exactly are you basing that on? do you understand how animation works? don't dismiss something as shit without backing it up
