THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
I'm digging the OST of this series now tbh. The episode was somewhat tense. I was expecting a duel in this episode.

Saburou is fun to watch. I like how chill he is in their world and tasting food as well. Jin ;_;

Nice episode.

Weird art is completely forgotten at this point for me. This is actually getting pretty interesting.

This series continues to be an interesting juxtaposition between cheap CG character animation and some very cool cinematography with great art direction. The audio aspect (music and VA) is wonderful too. This show has one of a kind style, that's for sure.

I don't know why this series is subbed with such a delay form the airing date. Unsubbed, some of the more difficult and old timey dialogue was lost to me but this episode follows a part of the manga that's been translated so I could follow along. They cut out the whole story following Takechiyo and went straight for poor Jii's death. I can't say for sure that it's a bad thing or not, because as far as I can tell, they are going for a different tone than the manga. I think anime Saburo is at once both more funnier and yet more competent than his manga counterpart.

Of course, this is all from just the few chapters I've read and from this point on, it's unknown territory (unless they visit Takechiyo's story at a later time). I'm curious as to how much of a role the real Nobunaga will play in the future, and how they'll deal with "Toukichirou" since they cut out the meeting between him and Saburo.

Looks like the ED is really ED because that OP is still instrumental.

Introducing goods from present time as usual. But that old man... Will that give him a shock and actually be serious?

I've only read the four translated chapters of the manga, so I was able to keep up with the raw... for now aha. Was a bit disappointed that the whole escort thing with Takechiyo wasn't included. However, I do like how we got to see how Nobunaga was doing... I feel that the anime will focus on those two parallels between him and Saburou more.

As for the animation, still digging it. At times it does look a bit awkward, but overall it's a nice change of pace and compliments the story perfectly. I guess an ED is all we get, but it's one hell of a catchy one so I'm not complaining!

Things are seeming to heat up (I believe that this is where the translated chapters stopped as well), so I can't wait to see what happens!

Also, does anyone know exactly how much of a delay there is between the airing and English sub? I only checked just now to see that episode 1 had been subbed (thank goodness, I thought no one was going to translate it), and I'd like to know so that I can rewatch episodes ASAP, especially for episodes 3 and the rest!

I dont really care about the animation and the cgi crap. The cgi reminds me of Kingdom. I think this animu is really well directed (better than snk tbh). But disappointed that they skipped some mango stuff (*cough* *cough* Brynhildr). But still I dont get why this is so underrated. That perfect ed and ost omg Yokoyama is a god.

Yeah wow they skipped quite a lot, and the manga already has a time skip too within the first four chapters lol. Talk about fast pace! But it doesn't really feel like it's going super fast or anything, although the overall flow isn't too smooth either. Still an interesting episode though. So sad that Hirate died ;_; I agree that the cinematography and the direction are nice and artistic, and the bgm is quite amazing as well. I'm looking forward to seeing Nobunaga's role in this, it seems like he's regretting the decision of making Saburo take his spot, and maybe he will try to do something to fix it?

Ahh so it's really the ED and not the OP. It seems really fitting to be an OP though, but the "OP" or the short title thing they do is cool too. And I can see why they would use that as the ED since they put the episode preview in it which saves time.

It's weird how sometimes the animation is so. fluid. and other times awkward and stilted; however, the art direction and voice acting continues to be fantastic, so I'll forgive it. ♥

Damn it! I hate it when likeable old people die. Wanted to give him his Liquid Vitamins and NOW NEVER. The assassin character really makes you want to rage now, doesn't he?

Wow, [Forgot his family name] Mori. Such a different personality from Sengoku Basara. Hella amused. His family was adorable, too. ("I wanna serve our lord!")
Never mind. Apparently Yoshinari and Motonari are a biiiit different though their given names are the same.

A-actually it's kind of a bad thing when you're recognizing most of the names from their Sengoku Basara counterparts. Rather confusing~

Except for the idiotic "Call an Ambulance!" line, Saburo's quite likeable this week. Still not sure how he isn't dead yet, but let's roll with it. Got to drink his delicious boy tears, after all.

It's finally subbed, It was really a great episode, we got to know more about the Oda family and its members and it seems that Saburo will start caring about his actions from now on because he does a lot of awkward things that led to Hirate's death.

The animation was great and the voice acting was good.

This would work just as well without the time travel gimmick, although since real Nobunaga looks like he has an actual role in the story, I'm wondering what he'll do.

Nobunaga hiring Inuchiyo based on his bark response was hilarious!

Poor Hirate.. Just when he was standing up firmly for Saburo, he gets taken down.
His last moments with Saburo were quite emotional..

Real Nobu seems a bit worried. Regretting his decision?

That shady guy really annoys me for some reason. Hope he dies soon!

Good episode. A bit fast paced but not bad. The OSTs were awesome though!

I have no problem with the animation and art because i like it and the ending song is too catchy ! *and the vocalist is actually Taka one ok rock's lil bro :v * and also they have many good VA (and some of them has role in Nobunaga The Fool :v )

Hirate's dead. I really like him and Actually i expecting some scene before this happen (When Nobunaga's father and Takechiyo appear ). Or maybe they will including this scene next time ??!! (I have read the 1st volume for now and still looking for the 3rd till the latest volume)

Calling an ambulance while you were in Sengoku Jidai is useless,Saburou. -_-
But yeah I expecting Saburou to get some good development too for next episode

^ This.

Unfortunately, unlike European history, Asian history is hardly touched upon in the States. So, with a few exceptions, I get most of my knowledge from contemporary asian entertainment. Even then, it's nowhere near as in depth (or accurate) as studying it properly. Too, NC could be in an alternate universe, so it's not that kind to volunteer information when 1) the entertainment medium itself is hasn't revealed it and 2) wasn't specifically asked for. :I

Well...if you google Kinoshita Toukichirou it will literally direct you to Hideyoshi's wiki page. It's honestly not some obscure fact.

Personally, I'm in the opinion that historical fictions should be enjoyed for how that particular story interprets the historical events and figures. I don't see a huge taboo against mentioning historical facts as much as original stories. Or else there would be no reason to watch stories based on a certain historical event more than once. I don't feel I revealed something really big like someone's death and likewise (I mean he even looks like a monkey), but I apologize regardless.

I really can't stop laughing at the Call-the Ambulance part. And Saburou's character is really childish yet funny and adorable. I hope the old man's death will somehow make him take things seriously (but i guess that will be boring, hehe).. Just want to say I am glad Miyano Mamoru got this role. He really brings out the character's personality on a new level. Really enjoying listening to him.

I laughed when Nobunaga (well Saburo) barked and then the guy barked as well.
Also when he was giving the Baby Star food to Kichou and Ikeda, those two looked adorably confused and interested at the same time.

Idk if i've ever gotten chills before but yeah I felt something too, so eerie and foreboding.
Then the bright setting sun in the background added such intensity to the atmosphere.

This episode was OUTSTANDING. Who thinks this is objectively bad probably doesn't even know what a good work is. That said, I totally dig the music and the ED.

I like when they frame the scene and introduce the explanation of who the character is, the art in that special occasion is top notch and really interesting to see.

As for the story and the characters. I honestly didn't expect Jii-Jii to die so soon, it was pretty sad honestly, even if it was for a short time. Also, the ending of the ninja/assassin was creepy af. I wonder what the real Nobunaga will do now? He will come back to aid the impostor? Good stuff.

Btw, the concept of this show fairly reminds me the old movie of Akira Kurosawa, Kagemusha (1980).

Although I'm still disagreeing with MAL's score, I love that there are a lot of positive comments in this thread. BUT LATE SUBS THOUGH :'(

As good as the previous episode. The woof as well as the ambulance jokes both hit me and I laughed wholeheartedly. I love how they handle a switch of mood, from historical slice of life, to comedy, to serious moments.

I love this show.

Alright, HUUUUGE improvement over the first episode, pretty damn good episode. The comedy was way more spot on and the drama in the 2nd half was really well handled. And looks like we got ourselves a major antagonist for the series since the asassin guy listed as a main character.

Where the first episode was a conflicted 3/5, this is a enthusiastic and high 4/5 from me. Lets see where this goes.

Mmm, I wonder why this show is so unpopular, except the CGI.

Poor Hirate... :(
I wonder why Saburou said that he commited a kanshi. Well, I guess it's because he know that it ia part of the history that the old man killed himself because of Nobunaga excentricity.

The assassin have such a weird face, I just can't take him seriously :P
