At least this ep he only kept it a one-sentence comment when observing Third High's match.

lol they skipped a lot. This match was the one he commented the most in the LN

Yeah i wonder why they didnt make the scene where tatsuya configure leo CAD in 1hour and miki CAD too. There a lot of talking if i remember correctly. Everyone amaze by tatsuya ability when he tuning them so fast. And they also didnt make a scene about Erika teaching leo how to use sword.

First decent episode since... Wait, first decent episode, period. The Monolith Code matches were genuinely fun to watch, mostly due to the fact that the show didn't drown us in a sea of techno babble and let us appreciate the games instead.

I'm still wondering, tho: why is the Monolith Code a men's only event and why is it, as if by chance, the game that brings the most points? That doesn't seem to make sense to me at all, since it's a sport men and women alike can do as it relies heavily on tactical planning and magic skills. That actually makes even less sense when you compare it to the women's only event, the Mirage Bat, that is nothing but a somewhat very degrading stupid magical girl colored bubble bursting contest.

I can't wait to see Tatsuya, Leo and Mikihiko in action!

So Leo is going to be the defender, Mikihiko will provide back-up to both the offense and defense, while Tatsuya is going to be on the offense.

Gram Demolition huh... op as ever it seems...

I can't wait for Tatsuya to kick Masaki's ass.

He's armed with a low-spec CAD :O? That's Tatsuya for you, kicking ass even with crap gear!

Erika... you silly lil brocon you!

So her brother and Mari are together or what? I thought all dem girls belonged to Tatsuya lol.

Wow... getting told by Miyuki that you're a brocon... that must hurt...

I can't wait to see 1st High vs 3rd High Monolith Code the rookie event final!

Cardinal George is severely underestimating Tatsuya here xD

Sort of hard to predict the unknown unknown.

Looks like Tatsuya intends on using some ninja moves (in getting the suitcase from what's her name and their mentor) instead of his back pocket magic spells. Be curious to see how they are going to handle it, personally I want this battle over pretty quick, they dropped a lot of points that Tatsuya has already out thought the Cardinal, and if that is the case the animators should have him mop the floor rather than create fake suspense.

Nice episode though overall. Seems like Madhouse is finally getting in the groove.

i think monolith code is the most difficult, you have to balance offense and defense, and different terrain is also make it more difficult. you have to know enemy's strategy and also think a step forward than the enemy, like playing chess. but also physically heavy because you have to move while you thinking. that's what i see

This week's episode seemed a little slow to me, excluding the actual matches, but I was definitely amused when Miyuki called Erika out on her brother complex. Takes one to know one.

this one is a nice spisode, can't wait 1st high vs 3rd high in a plain ground.

Erika, why did you have brocon? well Erika is kinda cute when he talks to Mikihiko, she's really cute didn't like her usual. and when called brocon by "queen of brocon", it feels like called stupid by the king of stupidity *bakatest reference*

Crimson Prince is overpowered, just like Tatsuya, next episode should be the best if they clash. i don't really like Cardinal George, he's looking down to everybody, can't wait to see his face when he lose to 1st high because of his underestimating XD

Yeah, I don't get this. Especially since in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, we see Fleur Delacour participating in the Triwizard Tournament and it includes everything this guy is talking about and then some (unless the author wants to suggest that female mages are somehow incapable of physically laborious tasks or something):

Iirc, Mirage Bat is just as, if not more, strenuous than Monolith Code. Plus it's the longest event in the competition. I personally think of Monolith Code as the equivalent of Major League Baseball. Even though women can conceivably participate in it, it's open to only boys with Mirage Bat being an only girls event. Mari did complain about this so I guess the author has a reason for making it so?

At the end of the day monolith code is also a very physical competition where it is most likely that the contestants will sustain injuries. One condition for ending a match is to knock out the opposing team and you have seen what for example they hurled at Ichijou or how leo pounded the opposing attacker in the first match. You always have to expect that one of the players catches such an attack face first and therefore they made it a men's only event.

As for awarding it with the most points - you have to remember that all the other events are solo ones. With each school entering with up to 3 players. So in effect it is possible that in a single event multiple placements which award points are taken by players of the same school. As opposed to Monolith Code where all 3 players of a school enter as one team. And of course can only can reach a placement together.

And for Mirage Bat it may seem stupid - but it is for one supposed to be beautiful especially on matches during the evening. So by setting it up they consider its promoting effect. And further more as far as magic is concerned it is probably one of the most taxing competitions. They have to apply several different kinds of magic in a continuous succession (accelerating, decellerating, etc.), coordinate their jumps, avoid other contestants mid-air. And this while the matches lasts of this event generally are the longest compared to the short bouts in other events.

Yeah, if we consider the Mirage Bat to be just as much, if not more physically straining than the Monolith Code, it makes even less sense that the latter would bring much more points. It also gives the impression than the girls' events ultimately matter less than the boys, since it's a men's only event that makes the difference in the end. Mari's complaint is totally justified.

@user above I still don't see how a physically straining event can't be performed by women. I mean, unless they're made of porcelain the female athletes should be able to sustain injuries too. And afaic they're just as capable as their male collegues to move around and think at the same time. At least I hope so.
See the paragraph above to know what my problem with the whole "more points for the Monolith Code game" is. Also, the entire premise of the women's only event as the "beautiful one" and the men's only as the "real sh*t" bugs me. Its a sports event, not a cabaret nor a fashion show. The athletes (more specifically the female ones, since they're the one getting that weird treatment) aren't there to look good and please the audience: they're there to compete.

It is not really worth more points! In other events you get 50 points for 1st, 30 points for 2nd and 20 points for 3rd. While 1st place in Monolith code equals 100 points. 2nd 60 points and 3rd 40 points. So the overall amount of awarded points in Monolith Code may be higher - but there you can only get one placement with the 3 players forming 1 team opposed to the solo entries of 3 different players in other events.

1st place in Monolith Code is equivalent to getting 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the solo events.
2nd in MC is a little more than getting 2nd and 3rd (or only 1st) in solo events.
3rd is slightly less than the previous scenario.

Unless your school is gonna be flooring everyone in the solo events, realistically speaking, you're probably only fortunate enough to place in one slot of the solo events.

Yes it is. Even though it's a team sport, getting first at this single event is still worth having two solo competitors getting 1st in their respective events. It's also worth more than three solo competitors getting 2nd place, and it's finally worth having all your solo competitors getting at least 3rd place. Considering the fact that nine freaking schools participate in the competition and that there are only 5 solo events, it's pretty much a given that most schools will count on the Monolith Code to make a difference in their final ranking, since it brings a large amount of points at once.

In addendum, there are only TWO cases where Monolith Code is actually worth less across three solo events.

1st, 1st, 1st, = 150 pts
1st, 2nd, 2nd = 110 pts

Probably one of the best episodes so far, really getting into the Monolith Code contest and I can't wait to see the Prince and Cardinal George realize how they've been played. Tatsuya hasn't even begun to show his tricks, even baited them with Gram Demolition to make them underestimate him. Was hoping they'd skip the prelims and go straight to the main event, but guess waiting another week isn't going to kill me.

Really love Erika in this episode, she's one of my favorite characters from this series and got to see a good bit of her this week :)

The pace is too slow. The next arc will be demolished like this.

Regardless.

They completely skipped the part in the Light Novel were Miyuki was giving Tatsuya a massage! So sad about it. It's completely irrelevant, but it was just so hilarious reading it and watching the reaction from Asuza and the rest that I hoped it'd show up here... sigh.

You can see some differences in some scenes as well.. Mizuki was also together with Erika and Miyuki when Erika turned out to be a Bro-con, and was used for some jokes.

Well. Soon we'll get into the bullshit of using Gram Dispersion/Demolition and it's going to be quite annoying.

Only 4/5 this ep too many cuts for me especially when Mayumi and Mari was slightly surprised Tatsuya's team actually won their 1st match, yup they still had doubts they may win,it might counter the always getting praised complaints anime viewers have.

Lol'd at Miyuki's "you have a brother complex" comment to Erika, and Erika's reply to the brocon queen,I re-watched that scene a couple of times, happy that they didn't cut that scene out.

They made Cardinal George to evil looking,he's just a kid that see's himself too highly. Will Masaki push Tatsuya to the limit?Or will he stomp the Prince? Both have restrictions to their more powerful magics but the Prince is more versatile magic wise as seen in this ep.

Seems no one commented on Tatsuya's underhanded strategies to the point of playing dirty :) He recruited Leo because of his specialty in Fortifying magic with the strategy that he use it to prevent anyone from opening their Monolith, which in this ep an opponent commented that it's playing dirty :) and the way that Mikihiko's spirit's are the one inputting the codes (2nd and 3rd match) (which are basically almost invisible to most magicians as they are made up of pushions.

edit: Anyone still think this is a harem?Another girl (Mari) is shipped to another guy this ep,and who needs Tatsuya if your boyfriend is a famous sword magician bishonen? But the reverse harem thing is still good as Erika is trying to have one (Leo and still trying to pull in her brother, Mikihiko and Tatsuya :) )

Quite liked this episode. For once, I didnt feel bored with the competitions, though Monolith Code was always expected to b the best competition of them all

Considering it the best episode of this series so far.

Miyuki callin Erik a bro-con was pretty funny.

While i noticed a couple of scenes being cut, I dont mind them at all. At least i didnt get bored or dislike any of the scenes. And everything seems to be explaoned just enough to get me interested and informed without being painfully boring. So yeah, this is how I hope MKnR continues to go abt.

Hopefully, they make the finals really interestig and cool and dont stige on the budget!

No, just no. It's very good that Madhouse is skipping crap like that. Everyone being constantly surprised by Tatsuya's awesomeness is annoying.

Seems no one commented on Tatsuya's underhanded strategies to the point of playing dirty :)

I think he was openly violating rules. Supposedly bringing own CAD was restricted.

He recruited Leo because of his specialty in Fortifying magic with the strategy that he use it to prevent anyone from opening their Monolith, which in this ep an opponent commented that it's playing dirty

Wasn't it rather strange, that underachiever was easily stomping elite students from other schools in open fight?

Only 4/5 this ep too many cuts for me especially when Mayumi and Mari was slightly surprised Tatsuya's team actually won their 1st match, yup they still had doubts they may win,it might counter the always getting praised complaints anime viewers have.

Wasn't it rather strange, that underachiever was easily stomping elite students from other schools in open fight?

edit: Anyone still think this is a harem?Another girl (Mari) is shipped to another guy this ep,and who needs Tatsuya if your boyfriend is a famous sword magician bishonen? But the reverse harem thing is still good as Erika is trying to have one (Leo and still trying to pull in her brother, Mikihiko and Tatsuya :) )

Mari's boyfriend was mentioned much earlier so it is nothing new. Tatsuya still has bunch of female followers.

You misunderstood,I meant that even though Mayumi was the one who recruited Tatsuya she was still doubtful that he will actually win.

Tatsuya wasn't using his own CADS,those were competition CADS.

I think you still think that course 2 students are like the level 0's of Index (have no power),most course 2 students have specialized magics that are strong, and they can easily use,but they just suck (slow casting speed) at magics that are tested in the entrance exams, which some takes 10 processes to activate,Tatsuya can cast normally magics that have 5 processes or lower.

Female followers?I only count at least 3 including Miyuki.

Simply amazing episode, Monolith Code is now my second favourite event after Mirage Bat. 1st High School are great with Tatsuya as mastermind though Miki and Leo more than hold their own. I was fanboyind so hard watching Masaki dominate, his fight with Tatsuya is going to be stunning. Cardinal George is a genius, they are such a deadly pairing. Tatsuya wanting to know the No Head Dragons base, a set-up for the Yokohama Incident arc? I have no idea but interesting. 5/5

I was reffering to Leo's CAD, which certainly wasn't competition CAD.

But still guys from other schools were elite and selected students of military facility yet Leo stomped them with little effort. I find it very hard to believe.

Beside Miyuki we have also Mayumi, Shizuku, Honoka, Erika and Mizuki.
