Finally something is happening.
The soundtrack in this ep was superb, probably the best aspect of the anime.
In general this was the best episode since Tatsuya wasnt completely in spotlight though his explanation was unneccessary.
Dunno what to say about Tatsuya slice Miki and acting all superior (lol he is but thats not the point)
since he is practically a robot and only cares about his Imouto.
Still, gonna look forward for the next events of NSC if there free of Tatsuya.

Probably, because as you can guess Tatsuya isn't much of of a talkative person, apart from explaining how some o the magic works and more the type who rather keeps his thoughts to himself. Just that the directors of this anime adaption apparently thought it was somehow a good idea to omit all his thoughts and inner monologue, which would give insight into his character.

I can see why people have been complaining about this series if that's the case. Tatsuya would have been better off saying his documentary as inner monologue then actually sounding like a nerd who knows it all(even though he's a weed). Also that conversation he had with Kazama(?) and those other officers felt so grating to the ears. I hate it when other characters try to put a main character on a high pedestal like as if it's their first time to have met("oh Tatsuya you is a God with your materia burst and flash cast"). Like seriously

It was the second time in three episodes (the other being his design partner) where they did that. I know they want to impress on us how everyone outside of school knows he is the Man, but these are supposed to be people who have known him for years.

Even worse than that is that is contradicts what Tatsuya is supposed to be. How are we to know he isn't a "talkative" person when he goes on and explains everything to everyone every single episode?

Its not the anime that's scraping the bottom of the barrel here, its the GODDAMN FORUMS...

Apparently if its Mahouka, people will just keep hating. For gods sake, if you want to look for super awesome battle scenes, go watch Gurren Lagann or any over the top Shonen.

Mahouka's appeal is not complete badassery: its more talking and scene setting than fighting.

(Then again, the adaptation is quite mediocre, go read the LNs if you can't be bothered.)

Tatsu was right to tell Mikihiko that in this particular situation what was important was that the criminals were neutralized and nothing more, but calling him an idiot several times in a row was really pushing it. We got that Miki got an inferiority complex, no need to rub salt in the poor dude's wound.
Also Tatsuya, telling your sister it's dangerous for her to walk around alone in a (probably) 4-fucking star high security hotel, when she's easily the most dangerous person in the entire building: what the fuck.

Well, First High plowing through this episode, basically. Since all the events pretty much went the same way, there was no real tension during any of them and as a result they weren't much fun... Hope we'll get to see some of the guys.

There's something I don't get about the whole competition though : from what we've seen so far most of these "sports" seem to be heavily if not entirely based on magic skills, so why the need to do different events for men and women ?
That's just me nitpicking though.

And I didn't get the point of Mayumi's stretch scene : was this supposed to be fan service ? Is she trying to get in Tatsu's pants ?

If that's your idea of "teasing" somebody, no wonder you don't get any huhu.

No one asked for "super awesome battle scenes", well outside of the light novel readers drooling over the upcoming Yokohama Arc (which is supposed to have "super awesome battle scenes").

What the critics (including myself) want is a little suspense instead of an animation that seems specifically designed to set the stage for Tatsuya awesomeness.

That is ironic to the point of hilarity.

Now I don't want to be completely critical (though in my opinion this was the worse episode because it really should have been the best episode (if that makes sense)), so what I did like was that they finally had interpersonal interaction which finally showed that there is something different about Tatsuya and his emotions.

Isn't the suspense already there....

I read the light novels, and I think they are pretty good compared to other stuff, and I think most of the ppl here (not you through) keeps thinking that Mahouka is just a stage for Tatsuya.

That's not true, cause the last time I checked, Tatsuya is NOT a Gary Stu.

I acknowledge that you exempted me, but let me emphasize: I have never criticized the light novels. Since I have not read them it would be wrong of me, but I have read 20 pages of the first novel and already figured out that the LN are far better than this adaption.

So my comments are only about the anime adaption, not the LN. Personally I feel nothing but sympathy for the readers because they so wanted to have a good adaption of a series they liked, but instead got this complete mess. But as a "viewer-only", yes Tatsuya has been a Stu this series. All the negatives he has as a character have been downplayed until this episode, so no one can blame the first time viewers for saying that Tatsuya is a "Stu" because that has what he has been served up as.

For an example. This episode the fact that his school needs to win 4 of the last 6 is not suspenseful, we all know that Tatsuya's CAD modifications and Miyuki's kick ass powers will carry the field. But predictability is not the ultimate sin. Everyone knows that Saki in the end will pull some supernatural mahjong at the end, but the animation at least makes the foregone conclusion interesting by showing the opponents as credible threats. This animation gives us none of that. Similar to the conclusion of the Blanche arc, we know that this wall is not a wall, it doesn't even have a crest. Why this animation could show the 3rd HS at least winning a couple of events is beyond me; all they showed is super powered 1st victories, so when at the end they mentioned the fact that they were losing didn't create suspense but rather disbelief.

Yeah ok lol, I finally dropped this. It got to the actual competition and STILL managed to be boring as fuck. Like, how do you manage to even make shonen trope #1 boring? There's a reason it's overrused so much - it's entertaining and popular. How could you even fuck up so bad? I'd only pick this up again if Juumonji became main character and didn't let the others have screentime for the good of mankind by covering the entire shot with his pecs. He doesn't even deserve to be put through being a participant in this piece of shit anime.

I'd say, this was the least interesting episode so far. Don't get me wrong though, even as I say it was the least interesting, I did like this episode. [It was more like somewhere between, "Liked it" and "It was okay".]

Frankly speaking, I really couldn't care much about the NSC unless:
-There is some plot twist with the No-Head Dragons intervening

-Tatsuya takes part in some of the events/Tatsuya's real identity is revealed.

No Head Dragon may end up turned into Blanche 2.0. It seems their brains suddenly stopped working when it come to doing decent Villain jobs. Seriously ? Send three nameless grunts with hand guns and infiltrate a highly important hotel only to get pwned by students !?
Heh...maybe Team Rocket can do better job than this. Or the author didn't want the Chinks to be human so much that he degraded their intelligent.
If there's something Tatsuya can't fine-tuning, it's his show.

quite liked the soundtrack
demonstrated some relationships of Tatsuya with other characters, like Miyuki, Mikihiko, Honoka, Mayumi, members of the Magic-Equipped Battalion etc..

Well if you want to be Tatsuya become experimented and be treated as a tool by your family. Oh yeah go through hell while training to be a guardian with no sense of emotions while your at it. I bet many people would wish to become that of the awesomeness. The sensation that people will feel will be wicked being a soldier that has killed with no mercy. Is it really rush? Not at all, IMHO.. the story is really interesting now and actually better than the average 1st arc.. btw, although I want to watch the sports but just a glimpse of it like this ep really enough for me.. I just hope they didn't cut the upcoming fight (from what I heard from readers).. To the critic (I want to say complainers but for the sake of their ego...), instead of wanting the story or characters to change which are quite impossible at the moment, why don't you try changing your mindset about this show or adjust your taste and expectations for it? Because it's already ep 11 and I'm really felt pity if you still didn't find this anime interesting but want to keep watching it (no sarcasm intended btw).. If it's still not working, well believe me this anime isn't really for you..
I cannot bring myself to rate anime that I have completed below 5. Well, it just because I have use up my precious time to watch it. so, the worse you will get from me is 5 (changes may apply)

So would you wipe out your emotions just to become awesome?.I'd think you'd be extremely desperate to do that, cause I sure as hell wouldn't attempt that. Then again people think different ways. No emotions means a everlasting awesomeness of vitality in life. Though the question is how can you feel that sensation if you don't have any emotions or can't freely express it.

If you can't feel it, then why bother ? Tatsuya didn't look very much bothered by it ? He live fine with it. And if he can't feel it, other people's reaction are still worth it.

Actually he's quite bothered he even says his life is a curse in the anime when he finishes talking to Mizuki. Though he can't express that since he lacks emotions. Then I guess no one would want to be Tatsuya if they knew his past, what justified reason would their be to be like Tatsuya? For awesomeness that'd be a good laugh. Now I'd understand if it were Kirito though I still wouldn't want to be him, but Tatsuya naw. Like I said above you'd have to be extremely desperate and full of apathy brah :)
