Super enjoyable film, with solid animation and directing, even if it is unfortunately lacking in monologues. Really liked Araragi's interactions with Hanekawa in this movie. Can't wait for the final part of the trilogy.

Felt like it was just repeating the same plot points over and over. Really not a whole lot of character development here, the whole thing just felt superficial. Also just like Part 1, I can't help but feel like it's too long. Did this really need to be a trilogy?

Nope, it really didn't need to be. Tatsuya Oishi is doing a good job at stretching the content out and there are some superb scenes here (particularly the ones between Araragi and Hanekawa and the Episode fight), but even he couldn't save this part from its repetitiveness given the length of the film. This was always the weakest part of the novel for me anyway and even elongated it was still an enjoyable watch.

Third film should be dope.

u might not like it but dont say its awful cg lmfao.

The scene as a whole is indeed great, but the cg it's not. For me good cg in anime is the one which blends with the regular animation making it barely noticeable

I understand your point of logic. Usually they try to hide the CG as much as possible in anime.

The main difference here is they want it to stand out as much as possible between actual animation and real life shots (like Hanekawa's pink panties during the second half).

It's not bad CG it's just the directing that's probably not to your taste.

While it looked and sounded pretty nice, it seemed like things were missing in the story, especially the characters' thoughts and overall fleshing out. The enemies were too simple, Shinobu was like a doll and even Araragi was too simple.

At least it did still make some connections to the other stories. I'll be waiting for the third part.

Yes you're right, but in my opinion that one scene with the CGI glass and the CGI desks, both didn't feel too much close to reality for me. So I didn't get what was their intention on the scene.

Now the CGI water in the bucket did feel realistic for me, if they really intended to make the CGI stand out to be closer to reality, I think they did a good job at some points, and a not that good at others, so a bit of inconsistency.

But to be honest I wouldn't even bother if all the characters had received the development they deserved, that was the one thing that bothered me the most

Great action scenes. With all those interaction between Araragi and Hanekawa,it's crazy to think Hitagi manage to snatch Araragi away.
But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

Wow, you completely misrepresent the show (except for Nisemonogatari, in that case the accusations are kinda valid). Maybe that's all the series is about if you just look at it at face value. Considering one of it's most prominent themes is that of burgeoning sexuality, it would be weird if there WEREN'T any sexual elements. And even with the indulgent fanservice, that's only one small part of the large whole of elements that the Monogatari series has to offer. It's a jack of all trades, which is what make sure it so fun to watch. Maybe consider looking at it beyond surface level sometime and you might appreciate it a bit more.

Even the first few minutes of this movie immediately caught my attention. Heh.

That fight in the early parts with that fight involving Araragi and Dramaturgy's was pretty chilling. I love how it captured the violence of the bloodthirsty action. The panties jokes Hanekawa got me cracking up quite a bit especially with how Araragi reacts with the teases.

Shaft did a terrific job with the quality of this. Watching it in high definition really made it worth it (wish I saw this in the theaters though). Surprisingly, I really enjoyed the music choreography as well.

Pretty entertaining movie in general. I was pretty entertained.

btw, i'm gonna get some nightmares from that Hanekawa's blood bath against Episode D:

that first part was decent felt like it was telling us stuff we would of known with some build up,which lead us to part 2 which was godlike animation and music were all really great and the interactions between Hanekawa makes me torn how she an't the main girl sometimes, but again despite really enjoying this movie not a lot of new stuff learnt would of liked to learn a bit about episode before he murdered hanekawa without delay.

Great movie. That scene at the end vs guillotine cutter was epic. Shinobu just gets hotter and hotter as they retrieve her body parts..
Hanekawa feels...

The pacing definitely picked up a bit from part 1, I was kind of surprised the amount of fights that were in this one. I liked the shounen-like elements they added to the story. With all the blood and dismembered body parts included of course.

This was beautiful, 9/10. I need part 3.

Great film, though there's something that has been bothering me.

Whatever happened with Araragi getting burned under the sun, as shown in Kizumonogatari I? I mean, he was somehow doing just fine when talking to Hanekawa in the grass-field towards the end, where it was still reasonably bright and probably would have been before sunset. I presume that it only counts if he can directly see the sun?

Did I miss something?

It's a good thing this Is a prequel otherwise it would be hard to follow up with his actions. The Vampires here are more like Un-Vampires... Can Vampires grow Swords for Arms? Grow a Tree?! Not Wanting to Suck blood? Heal others with their Blood instead of turning them into one(frigging Twilight)? But I'm cool with that. Not all Vampires follow the same lore. Just this one is unique. Damn Bladder was long and gory.

Maybe my expectations were too high after the very good first movie, but I found this one very mediocre. A lot of cringe-worthy moments, the plot sucked hard and a lot of wasted time and potential in general. The only redeeming aspect was the dark humor, especially during the first battle.

5/10 being generous, because i like the franchise a lot.

Everyone is commenting about the godlike art. Well, it is impressive indeed, but I don't know if I am the only one thinking this, but it often looks like there is too much CGI where there is no need for it. CGI should be treated carefully imo.

Btw, I expect more Shinobu for the third one.

While better than the first movie still can't help but find these movies rather underwhelming considering how long they took to come out.

Putting that aside,Episode's fight was more like what I wanted to see from Kizu but it was rather short lived.

Guillotinecutter was such a jobber.

Slightly regained my interest in this series with this movie, but still don't think it was anything phenomenal, high 6 to low 7/10.

Not gonna complain about the differences from LN as I took it as a story that is represented as a movie-trilogy so obviously many conflicts will occur in adapting to medium.

Liked this more than the first coz of less, but still present, Araragi's panting voice. Don't know why it got on my nerves hearing it, maybe if it were of a woman........

Liked the conversation between Hanekawa and Araragi. Still I see them as a better couple than the eventual. Atleast I can sense how much Hanekawa must want to breakout of her uneventful dull everyday life. Nice sexual flirting betwween the two.

Absolutely marvellous attack on the senses. Only thing that comes close in my mind is Redline. The animation and 3d are mixed so fluently.

My only regret is how Aniplex chose to milk the golden goose by splitting it up in 3 movies. It doesn't work well like that. Would love to see Shinbo in the future do a special cut blending the 3 films together.

I liked the first movie, but i think this one was just great, i liked it a lot! Mb one of the reasons that i enjoy this whole series so much because of not knowing how the novels are, but well i'm fine with this.
Always thought that the humour in the Monogatari series was differently weird and i mean it in a good way.
So many great moments with Shinobu this time, and her little dance o_O!
And the dialogue between Araragi and Hanekawa before the fight with Guillotinecutter, so good! But i wonder what was the reason for Oshino to fail, he was always very OP or mb that was the needed step for the future.
That was an interesting preview for the 3rd film so patiently waiting for it to come out.

SPASIBO!

Oh man, Hanekawa facial expressions and zoom in shots were cute. Her smirks and catmouths. Not as cute as Shinobu (version Ultimate Loli) of course.

So much lols at the start of the fight with Dramaturgy with the sound effect of Araragi's arm flying off. Guess in the end, his blade arms aren't as sharp as I thought they'd be, figured he would just cut down anything.

Despite being a vampire, Arararagi managed to see the light again thanks to the glorious-ness that is Hanekawa's panties.

Lol @ Shinobu eating her leg. New form, well not really, seems to be her default form in the TV series. Best part, nopan.

Was getting really steaming when Hanekawa was checking out his body. Arararararagi totally in player mode.

Lol when Hanekawa found the porn mag and she basically figured out he turned during a night out cause he went to buy naughty mags after seeing her panties.

The fight with Episode was pretty comical with that music, but then holy shit at Hanekawa getting her intestines blown out. Jeez I didn't expect that.

Shinobu's next transformation, definitely my favorite of her forms.

Hanekawa gave Arararararargi the best gift a female friend could give him. The warmth of her worn panties. Fucking rofl at his reactions and the "I'm not giving them back, it's gonna become a family treasure."

Overall, it was a really fun movie honestly, a lot more funny than expected. Hilarious moments, love the cartoony animations with the character reactions and I love the dialogue between Ararararararararagi and Hanekawa. Maybe it's been so long since any Monogatari aired it just felt really fresh compared to everything you see in other anime these days.

Looking forward to the next movie, sounds like 3rd movie will still have a fair amount of Hanekawa fanservice.

Apparently I am in minority because I hated the Kizumonogatari movies so far. The second one was slightly better but still the same emo bulllshit crap . Still the same kid that thinks he is cool.... it made me want to beat Araragi to a pulp. Kiss-shot slept most of the episode and Hanekawa showed us the panties again just for fanservice. It was so dumb. Also the fights.... Araragi is much to OP.

Great Adaption. ... unfortunately they skipped a lot of the insights of Araragi's thoughts and how he lived with Shinobu for a while, seeing her eat a human for the first time and being traumatized by that, coping with it, learning about her first subordinate more along a few other things that I can't remember, among more dialogue but. It was great.

Definitely gotta reread the original novel.

As a non LN reader, Nekketsu was quite a surprise for me. Oshino fucked up the one real job Araragi ever paid him to do, and admitted to doing so, and Araragi subsequently gave up his humanity for Hanekawa. That changes pretty much the entire series.

This now feels very very weird to me too. The only thing that makes is somewhat understandable is the fact that Hanekawa's personality, but most of all her interactions with Araragi, are vastly different than in the seasonal series.

I have very few, if any complaints...this may be my favorite piece of the Monogatari franchise I've seen yet.

Araragi and Hanekawa's banter and the whole situation at the beginning when he tries to leave her added to the impact of her getting killed. Watching him go crazy on Episode was pretty great.

The scene where we watched Shinobu grow a figure...damn, she looked fine. And I'm not usually one to be impressed by fanservice. There was a strong, yet tasteful focus on sexuality/fanservice throughout the movie.

I found a complaint...I can't watch part 3 right now. :(

Absolutely great story, dialogues and references (thanks for good subs, Tactical release, sub track 2).

This... was actually more garbage than the first movie. Wow.

The amount of changes, deviations and omissions from the novel was staggering. The lack of monologues tears this one to pieces because nothing gets the appropriate context and explanation to actually tie things together.

The CG animation was jarring as ever, even more so. In many scenes the exaggerated character animations actually made things look like old 90s attempts at having Disney-like 2D animation co-exist with live action actors in a live action world. Heck, they even put in a section that could be taken on its own, stripped of dialogue, and aired on TV as an advertisement for the Coca Cola Company. Product placement to the max, hope it paid well.

The movie, like the first, tried to go through the moves but lacked every bit of soul and essence that the novel, and even the original Bakemonogatari adaptation had. It was a constant stream of animation bloat, especially during the action scenes. There was so much excess fat around it that things felt distracting, all over the place and so over the top that it got ridiculous. And then even with that bloat, the final fight against Guillotine Cutter was shorter than the credit roll, whereas in the novel, there was so much back and forth, so much tension and excitement coming from Araragi's inner turmoil that it engaged the reader. Here it just... threw more CG animation at you and was done with it.

No, this was a terrible movie. The pacing was completely off, there was no room to build tension, character development was almost entirely scrapped for all but Hanekawa and Araragi, and even that was diminished by changes and omissions. Heck, they didn't even care that Araragi goes up in flames when exposed to sunlight. The amount of scenes set at dawn, in the open was stupid. Nevermind Hanekawa's shouting having an echo... in an open air environment.

And what is it with Shaft's apparent obsession of showing you what's happening five to ten seconds from now, just to immediately cut back to fill in the blank space between then and before? I know Shaft tries to be flashy, but my god is that irritating and pointless. That is something I'd expect from somebody trying to impress his teacher in movie editing classes, not from established veterans. It really felt like the studio is too enamored with their own animation wank than the idea of adapting something they literally announced what, five years ago? Was supposed to be out 4 years ago? That paired with the very, very liberal attempt at adapting the light novel makes this a farce, and I'm surprised how many perfect rating it's getting from folks. It really makes me wonder if I watched the correct movie, to be honest.
