IT'S THE TERMINAL CORE

Damn, Pets' episode was not what any of us were expecting. It's always the quiet ones, isn't it?

What hurt the most was that Kana dreamed that happy ending

Finally we get to Pets' episode, which looks like a two-parter, with the 6th one ending it all, and resolving the issues between her and Kana. I'll be frank with this one. Kana is one of those typical kinds of characters that just does things, there's always a bit of something within her actions, so what she does is just as predictable as a anticipated easy answer to a question you know. But before I get to that ending part. Pets issue lies in her own insecurity to what Hana does plus her own issues with her family moving away. She never told anything with Hana, because she always kept to herself, always. And while it is true that people are selfish and out for themselves as Haruko said, sometimes stuff happens and you got someone trying to help you, for better or worse. Hana is no different, maybe she is selfish, but there's something more to that, which is being there for someone she cares about and wanting to do something to help. Things don't always work out, but hey, sometimes a friend will do that, even if you didn't ask them. So the reason to why Hana does what she does is typical. The previous episode does show that, but look how it turned out. Butting in where it seemingly doesn't belong, yet it brings about something else even if the action is idiotic. The persistence that paid off in the end. Hana got to support her friends as they faced their own insecurities in their own episodes in her own idiotic way. And she could have butted out, but she didn't. I have to at least assume that Hana will somehow apologize for not knowing Pets better, but I question about that a little considering how much Pets kept it to herself, as if what she went through with her family didn't matter.

Pets asks why when the reason should be in her face, even if it is a little selfish, because stuff like that leaves an impact, and better to know and prepare for such a thing, then be left out in the dark. She even just left her hanging without a goodbye. For someone to talk about it, she just goes and walks away...but is that what she truly wants? Just leaving Hana like that, never saying goodbye, never resolve the things that she never let out until now? Hana does do need to accept something about certain things, but next episode, quitting is not an option either, especially to resolve this thing, that Pets now just literally leaves for us to find out in the next episode.

Darn it Pets you got me talking up a storm here.

Still this mean that Kana has to at least take the initiative to resolve this, because with something like that occuring, could she really let it end like this...Heck no...

I feel sorry for Kana. It must really hurt to realize that someone you regarded as a friend for a long time didn't feel the same.

This was certainly a depressing episode. This really should have been the true sequel to the original. Nothing Progressive made can even come close to touching this, especially with that ending.

Poor Kana. Now to see if she ends up going full EOE Shinji.

This is already almost as bad as progressive.
"Doubting everything that you take on... That is very important. Open your own eyes, clear out your ears, and look and listen to the world... And think using your own brain. After you've doubted everything, there is a possibility of something real to believe in. To believe in something, doubt everything."

it's interesting how alternative subverts the idiosyncratically FLCL cliches that progressive tried so hard to force. nothing came out of kana's head in episode 4 and that episode's "battle" was just a weirdly animated basketball sequence, and in this episode when kana starts to (what would have been referred to in progressive as) "overflow," instead of ejecting some creature out of her forehead, she sucks the creature up, and the convenient conclusion is actually just a dream. miles more creative and thematically resonant than progressive was

I’m glad all these episodes exploring each girl and their relationship with Kana boon was all build up to point out her flaws and call Kana out on her bullshit.

Everything Pets said was true. The annoying things Kana does like butting into peoples lives when no one told her to, how Kana makes every situation about her (which is why Pets never mentioned her crush on the boy), the constant talk about being “friends” talk and how it was lame because Kana only perceived them to being good friends, but in truth each she knew nothing about them.

Best episode so far.

From one selfish person to another. She's kind of a hypocrite when she never let it slip about how her life is, and spent her whole life secretly hating Kana. And then just runs off. She may be right about Kana, but Pets is just as selfish as Kana is. She never even confronted Kana about why she's always like this, she just puts up with things and barely express herself.

Best episode so far between both Alternative and Progressive.
Honestly, Alternative has really been well directed and has some interesting themes going for it along with some nice visuals.
It's also not as hamfisted as Progressive was, and the main cast of girls here are charming characters in their own right, compared to the incredibly forgettable cast of Progressive.
Well, onto the finale.
