Wind Breaker

I'll be honest.
I thought this anime would be like Tokyo Revengers, with its delinquent theme. But where Tokyo Revengers lost me on the first episode, Wind Breaker had me reading the manga up to the latest chapters. So when I finally watched it, I was not disappointed.
This was a very faithful adaptation to the source material.
The voice castings for the characters are truly amazing, as most of them happened to be some of my all-time favourite voice actors.
The opening is spectacular! I have it on my playlist as Natori did not disappoint with his music.
The visuals are what you would expect from CloverWorks. ... The backgrounds are pretty neat, the character close-ups look amazing and the fight scenes look nice.
However, this does have some issues with characters and dialogue here and there, I've grown fond of the show.
While heavily flawed, Sakura is a great character as he learns more about something with every experience and fight.
In my opinion, this anime is about the power of friendship done right. You cannot rely on your strength alone in a brawl, or life in general.

Im not going to write something that hasnt been mentioned in the other reviews. The show is an extremely generic battle shounen much like Kaiju No8. But on the contrary Kaiju No8 has at least some logic because the characters fight monsters with special suits and weapons and is based on the good old formula of monster hunting. Here we have a school that has no principal, no teachers and no explanation for how it exists or what purpose it serves in education. There is no good drama either and the teenagers have extraordinary powers and also no parents! The comedy feels extremely forced ... and the jokes are almost non-existent. The only reason im rating this show a 7 is because of the fighting scenes which are incredible and the only saving grace for this anime. If you enjoy good fight scenes that remind you of the old Hong Kong movies watch it if not just dont bother

Reviews aren’t something I really tend to do on here since they take time and I feel like they’re expected to be in depth.

However this show has been such a disappointment that I have gone to the effort of writing a review.

This show had so much potential, it honestly pisses me off that it turned into yet another generic shounen high school battle anime. The plot revolves around a guy called Sakura who starts attending a school in which he wants to become the guy on top. His design is honestly really cool and it’s a shame it’s wasted on such a shallow and generic ... character.

The first episode looked like it was going to set up a good, original adventure but oh how I was wrong.

What annoys me (any many others) the most is the characters. They all take the basic shounen character template and do not even attempt to change it.
There’s the comedic, wimpish but at times very strong sidekick.
There’s the tough looking but actually friendly classmate with long hair.
And worst of all, there’s the cool senior who is stronger than everyone else but has a soft and comedic side. Sound familiar? Does the name Gojo Satoru ring a bell? They’re even voiced by the same guy and have THE SAME CHARACTER DESIGN.

It isn’t all bad though. The animation and fight choreography is amazing, so if you’re here for just the fighting then it is somewhat bearable.
Just ignore everything else.

Overall I cannot give this any higher than a 4. At least not yet.
