Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi

Salaryman Tsuyoshi Mukouda is accidentally summoned as a hero to the Kingdom of Reijseger in another world to help defend against their enemies. Wary of the royal family's true intentions, Mukouda is able to talk his way out of the situation due to his non-combat skill, "Online Supermarket," which is deemed useless.

However, this power proves to be anything but useless. With this ability, Mukouda is able to cheaply purchase food products and utensils from Japan—most of which are considered luxuries in this world. As Mukouda cooks up a storm using his ability, he catches the eye of the fearsome mythical wolf Fel. The legendary beast swiftly negotiates a contract to become Mukouda's familiar, unable to resist the delicious dishes. With Fel by his side, Mukouda travels the world, earning his keep as an adventurer and merchant all the while enjoying delectable meals.

Dropped into another world, we don't get much explanation of how our hero arrive other than presuming he died in his other life as Isekai usually go, finding out he has received a quite unusual ability being able to purchase food from his home world through a online shopping interface, knowing that he needs to GO and DEFEAT the demon lord or whatever... he quits, because who wants to risk your life after giving a second chance.

Our MC, trying to reach the city hires an adventurer group to escort him along the way, using his skill, he cooks food for them on their travel using ... a newly discovered and foreign food... Monster meat. The amazing taste and smell lures in a Legendary monster, the all but lovable and mighty Fenrir or Fel as our MC named him after they link a bond, creating a familiar contract with the monster.

This anime takes you through an adventure of food, playful and fun fights and creates a very lighthearted fun story where you couldn't know where the plot was going, but your enjoying the ride either way, if it's learning a new powerful skill or cooking up a mouth watering dish, this is as fun as it gets, my only complaint would be the main MC, even tho his lazyness and wanting the "chill" life is made thoroughly clear throughout the show, it gets annoying later-on, even after receiving elemental blessing from the gods (which he wanted but have no intention of using to fight), later our MC and Fel meets a small cute slime named Sui which joins their group on their adventures.... having skills that resembles another anime I saw before this "The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash", with a fun group of friends and a few new cooking tips, what's there not to enjoy!

A more deeper dive into the characters, every character outside of our main group is treated as side and you don't learn much about them other than how they help and interact with out main characters, Fel is lovable and fiers as you might expect from a "Demi-god" wolf, Sui our adorable slime cleans up and eats any leftovers from the food our MC makes to feed Fel during their adventures, honestly enjoyed every episode, it's not your common jam packed anime with death defying fights and a mystery plot point, but if it's relaxing on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and some coke, it's a well recommended show.

Also I might be a little biased to wolf characters, so there's that :P

Mixed Feelings

I don't have much to say about this one except that it's been a pleasant surprise. Initially, I had low expectations, but it manages to keep the story decent and engaging, focusing on a small cast and expanding to include supporting characters and comrades as needed. However, so far, few of the previously encountered characters have made a return.

Its strong points lie in its humor and visual aesthetics. Each episode delivers a fair share of laughs, introducing amusing characters like the goddesses and establishing an interesting and humorous dynamic with the main character. And being a MAPPA-produced anime, the animation never fails to impress.

It pains ... me to admit this, but the isekai genre is often dominated by harem tropes, which I personally have a soft spot for. The plot is certainly not so intriguing on it's own, but beyond that, as a non-harem/romance isekai anime, this one stands out with a better-rounded story and overall quality. I initially expected it to receive poor ratings, but its decent rating is well-deserved.

Simply put, Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi a waste of time. Being a series made by Mappa, also being an isekai, I figured this was an easy watch. It was not that, it was just a cooking show with a wolf, cool. 12 episodes with 0 plot, basically the only fan service was bright colorful food, which is the best part of the show, seeing the food. It's very rare to come across an anime that refuses to have basic storytelling, but Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi pulls that off. This is the lowest effort a studio can ... give. A thoroughly disappointing series from such a reputable studio. If this is what Mappa is wasting time on, my advice to them would be this, less is more. Don't release garbage.

Animation 7/10
- The food is drawn well, the beasts are also done well, but the backgrounds can be muddy looking when they are outside.
Sound 6/10
- OP/ED are meh, SE are not great, and voice acting is just okay, nothing sound wise stands out.
Story 1/10
- This is rare for me to rate something under a 5 in any category for my scoring, but seriously, I can't in good conscience give this anything but a 1 story wise, because there is no story, this is slice of life cooking channel, and that's it.
Characters 4/10
- Another aspect of this series that just isn't remotely good. Main character has zero growth, doesn't use his abilities to their full potential, even after realizing the potential. Sui is cute, Fel is just an OP wolf, the goddesses are rarely seen or heard from.
Enjoyment 5/10
- This series had potential when it started, but then halfway into it, I was just watching it for completion. Like a lot of series in winter 2023, they had potential, and then became a fart in the wind.

I can't recommend this to anyone. If you like drawn food, go play Final Fantasy 15. Then again Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi is on par with FF15 in its trashiness, so maybe that's not a good idea. Either way, stay away from this waste of time, there are so much anime out there.
