Glass no Kamen

In the same way, the main characters kind of stumble into their dream--that THING that they're actually good at and can devote themselves too. They start at the bottom, each finding a rival who is far above their reach and fighting until they're on equal ground with that person. A boy, a ghost, and the world of Go. 

How it is similar? #1 a beginner actress, many claim her amateur, though she is really talanted #2 Romance with an older man. Very similar thing, i don't want to tell you any spoilers ) Difficulties with understanding these feelings #3 difficulties with revealing one's true self, when one already has created a fake personality to support some person #4 you feel that some great story is starting here 

Lots of striking parallels where you can tell Mai-Otome was heavily inspired by Glass no Kamen. There's plenty of differences to enjoy as well, and they're both great series so give either one a go if you haven't already. 

It contains similar plot based on main heroine who dreams to become the best and her rival who is perfect and famous (and Ryuuzaki reminds Ayumi). There is also male character who believes in main heroine and helps her (as Masumi do). Oka Hiromi has her ups and downs, but continue her path to be the number one tennis player. 

Stories about girls from humble circumstances who get the opportunity to follow their dreams. Maya from Glass no Kamen wishes to become an actress while Judy from Watashi no Ashinaga Ojisan chooses to pursue writing short stories. Both protagonists have an anonymous benefactor who they meet without realizing and who later develops into a love interest. Watashi no Ashinaga Ojisan focuses more on romance and daily life occurrences while Glass no Kamen places heavy emphasis on dramatic moments. 

Both anime are about common young girls, who's talents were suddenly revealed by some mysterious person wearing black (Chigusa and Jin). Both girls feel themselves uncomfortable being put in some professional group though they are just newbies. They both achieved a lot during a short period of time, lead by great teachers. And they devoted to tennis and acting their whole souls and feel happy just while doing it. And the art is similar, even girls' boyfriends (i mean Sakurakoji and Toudou) look the same way. Ace Wo Nerae!-movie is more similar to Glass Mask in some disquieting feeling in the end: if you were worried about sensei in glass mask, you'll feel the same in "aim for the best" read more 

Both storys is abote a girl who have a dream!! Glass kamen and candy candy have a love story too!!!  

If you like series where the main character follows after their dream, then Kaleido Star is another good one. With a more colorful palatte (it IS A circus after all), humor and charming characters, Kaleido Star goes along way with Sora reaching to be a star at the Kaleido Stage. Both series similarly have a standing rivalry between girls, Sora the one starting from the bottom and Layla, the one already on top and still reaching higher. The relationship is the same in that they both push each other farther and develop a bond closer than friendship. Humor, drama, and pushing yourself to the limits really makes this series endearing. They have a somewhat similar “gorgeous” mood and feeling. Roses play an important role in both anime. Also, Nanami and Ayumi are really similar. 

Both are great, gorgeous, old school anime about young, talented girls who try to achieve their goals and make their dreams come true (Maya: to become a theater actress, Hikari: to become a great gymnast). Also, both have romance and really nice OP/ED themes. 

A stubbornly plucky heroine who is a borderline tomoboy, of "average" looks, but otherwise impressively talented? Check. Be ready for those melodramatic shoujo plot twists, and for all the male leads to be somehow inclined to help/be in love with our single-minded girl. If you felt Haikara-san was too short and fast paced, treat yourself to Glass Mask.
