The shows have suspense, comedy, great moments, character dynamics, interactions, and development!

I think that both touch your heart in way that you just want to cry all day long

Fruits Basket is Clannad with steroids. I strongly, super strongly recommend watching it.
report Recommended by Hasnaspatia
Both main characters are good-natured, kind-hearted, likeable girls with a little bit of a ditzy side. Love interests are a bit detached but grow as people once they meet the main character. Interesting plots with a supernatural side to it.

1. Similar theme of people changing each other gradually 2. Lots of different relationships and their issues 3. The dynamic of the protagonist and another two girls being friends appeared kind of similar to me
report Recommended by Irongretta
Both shows are adaptations of classic shoujo manga, which focus on the sole female in one way or another ending up accompanying the rest of the male cast. They both also have a variety of enjoyable characters

Both anime will make you really emotional with the drama and the characters backstories, have underlying romance and a plus one for the main male leads have the same voice actor😁
report Recommended by Stardust2000
Both shows exhibit this same gentle tone of a mix of silly comedic moments but a lot of heart tugging dramatic moments. Both shows feature a main girl with a sunny personality who is able to pull characters from their lowest points in their emotions just by showing she cares. Both shows feature characters from troubled families with an over bearing cold family head, in Fruits Basket you have the Soma family lead by Akito and in Taisho Otome you have Shima family lead by their cold distant father.

If you value the pursuit of understanding one's emotions, then you will find that in both series. There are many ways in which these anime differ in genre. However, the way they approach the matter of understanding emotions is identical. The tragic heroine finds a way to give her peers emotional closure despite she herself needing said closure. The wholesome epiphanies that these heroines grant are soothing and restores your faith in humanity. They grant their peers emotional support to help them deal with their realistic struggles to grant the courage to escape their emotional turmoil. If not, directly intervene to save others from collapsing under  read more

Both have similar animation styles and soundtracks. They are centered around high school students and the circumstances are mostly normal but with a slight supernatural edge.

- Both have friendly female main protagonists who live in a house full of spirit boys. - They try to clean the house while teaching the boys what it means to be human. - The beginnings are exactly the same: both are orphaned pretty much, due to the deaths of their parents. In Fruits Basket, she stumbles upon a house in the forest when she was trying to build her own tent there on a rainy day. In Momochi, the female main protagonist inherited the house.

- Both fall in love with a super natural being - Both are homeless and then start living with the supernatural - The love interest doesn't show much care for the mc at first.
report Recommended by kiroban
Both give me heart-warming feelings, like a hug i need when i feel weak. Nice story telling. The characters are well built and have good development. They care for the other, accept other's flaws and give them strength to grow and change... I'm bad at phrasing out what i want to say so here's a comment from other reader:"The anime is very light, however touch on inner conflicts that many people face, including jealousy between friends and the "real world" "
report Recommended by asahi123
Slice of life, lessons on morality and solving personal issues with others. Fruits Basket is more about accepting others, trying to get to know each other better, and learning about the personalities of each person. The Pet Girl of Sakurasou is more about being there for each other, solving issues together and how hard work sometimes doesn't pay off.

Toradora and FB are somewhat only superficially similar, dude meets girls, life entanglement and stuff blooms from thereon. However, the two are usually acclaimed in their handling of the themes they use. Toradora is a love story going into what people truly wish for, FB being a supernatural tale about the consequences of peternormal abilities. Both using their premise to go deep into such with vivid character development and awesome perspective of understanding the reality. Both are pretty good drama anime, with one being a well-known rom-com, the other being a highly acclaimed shoujo story so good it needed a remake.
report Recommended by NextUniverse
The two are able to wonderfully portray the awkwardness and pains of growing up in Teenage or you can say Young Adult. Both Tohru(Fruba) and Kyouko(Horimiya) share similar aspects in which they both become caretakers to a family. The character development and mix of romance and comedy also greatly resembles that present in Fruits Basket. Definitely recommended if you are looking for shows which provide the same emotional vulnerability wrapped in a slice-of-life setting, look no further.

Somewhat slowburn romance with a supernatural twist - the time periods differ but both have complicated superpowered family dynamics.
report Recommended by Turnipboys
Has a different premise and satirizes a lot of shoujo tropes but also literally becomes fruits basket at some point along the way -Reverse harem but hits a lot of emotional beats -Female mc is just a really good person and friend to everyone around her -Girl literally living together with two boys -Male mc gives Kyo vibes

Parents die and forced to adapt to a new home. Both mc are hardworking and enjoy helping others.

It gives you the same beautiful and relaxing feeling after watching it. It goes deep into a sad story background. And the type of music are quite of similar

When I think about similar series, I think Fruits Basket (2019). Personally I find the 1st season more similar than the 2nd one, But I adore the 2nd season as well.
report Recommended by SpacePatroller
Both of these anime are gorgeous, character-driven dramas. Kageki Shoujo doesn't really have any romance, but it does have the same beautiful character development that drove Fruits Basket to its astronomical status. I think that if more people watched Kageki Shoujo, it would reach the same status in the community that Fruit Basket already has. Both of these anime are among my all-time favorites, and I believe that anyone who enjoys one will enjoy the other as well.

the themes in these shows are very similar and if you like one you will definitely like the other.

Despite being two completely different genres/stories, I thoroughly enjoy both and have noticed a couple of similarities between them: - In both shows, the main character has no mother or father and is basically orphaned - Both shows are really great at writing strong female characters - Both of their main antagonists are 'god-like' - Kyo and Edward have similar temperaments - in both shows, the main ensembles have traumatic back stories - Both have complex characters with complex motivations - Both have a satisfying romance - Both main characters were really attached to their mothers - Both main characters imitate their dads to make their mothers happy

I can't explain much, but it was a very similar vibe. The two male mcs have a similar dynamic to Yuki and Kyo.

Both anime are similar in the way that they focus less on romance and more on the slice of life aspect; also both female leads play the hero in their respective anime rather than the male lead.
report Recommended by Yukicorn
-Kind female MC that helps other characters in dealing with their insecurities and dark pasts -Funny and hopeful tone -All the other characters are drawn to MC and feel protective towards her (in Hamefura this plays out as a Reverse Harem, in Fruits Basket it's more friendship with a love triangle)

It’s no secret that fruits basket is my favorite anime, so trust me when I say this recommendation comes from a very genuine place as a HUGE fruba fan. In my mind, both of these shows are masterpieces. Essentially, if you enjoy the mature side and darker themes of fruba, Honey and Clover is likely to become a beloved title of a similar caliber. H&C is a comedy/romance/drama much like fruits basket. It’s a coming of age story about young adults in an arts college as they tackle things like love triangles, figuring out their paths in life, finding jobs, and unrequited love. They’re both very emotionally  read more

Both are Reverse Harem type means all characters fall for one *Female* character. Both have ordinary girl Character who attracts everyone's attention with her kindness and both the female leads are kind of cutely idiotic. If you liked my next life as villainess then definitely you will like Fruits basket.

nothing really similar to the plot or story but the vibe i get of these shows is very similar (except the ecchi side of food wars) and both are very interesting and keeps you going

- Both are set in mostly realistic worlds with one major fantasy element (Zodiac animals for Fruits Basket, as opposed to Fairies in Sugar Apple) - Borh have, at least in my opinion, realistic and heartwarming romance which is somewhat predictable from the beginning, but still enjoyable. - Both are much darker than they first appear on the surface (desperate Fruits Basket in its later seasons) - Comedic side character(s) (Mythril Lid Pod is a combination of Uotani, Kakeru, and Momiji, nobody can convince me otherwise.)
report Recommended by Atsunome
its a similar concept with zodiac warriors and it being a reverse harem styled romance
report Recommended by triggerfish
- Both are focused on putting a new spin on legends/fairytales. - Both see their main characters being forced to deal with their harsh realities with the help of new people they meet. - Both have rather large plot twists towards the end. - Both have a cast of school-aged characters (with Kagami’s being middle school and Furuba’s being high school).
report Recommended by Atsunome
- The main character in both shows is a young girl moving to a new place and adjusting to their new completely different life - The main characters both are rays of sunshine for all the other characters and helps to improve their lives through sheer positivity - Both shows have a very warm atmosphere and have a natural setting - The main characters mom's look similar and are both not quite traditional mom characters - The vibes of both shows are very similar in their mood and storytelling style
report Recommended by PenguinPip
The story is different, but both focus on a cast of characters who are struggling with healing after deep trauma in the past, these being more important than the actual plot.
report Recommended by Khashishi
In both the anime: 1. Slice of life and comedy is quite similar. 2. Protagonists are high schoolers. 3. Female protagonists are strong characters. 4. Female protagonists are concerned about their mothers. 5. Male protagonists are shy and can't express love easily. 6. Male protagonists are loved by their friends and saved by female protagonists. 7. Friendship scenes are worth watching in both the series.

Both are romance anime about the main protagonist trying to get the love of someone mysterious using their strenghts and flaws to their favor.

Pretty similar romance dynamics, really, REALLY, nice main character. Zen reminds me of Yuki
report Recommended by Daritos
Both very wholesome slice of life shows with sweet protagonists and interesting stories.
report Recommended by VonVarley
Both feature wholesome slice-of-life content centered around a single large family (that is usually but not always functional). Both series' soundtracks are also similar in that they are uplifting and help bolster their respective scenes. Dub voice acting is stellar in both these titles.

Is 'wholesome harem' a genre? Anyways, where 'Bunny Girl Senpai' teases titillation, 'Fruits Baskets instead teases romance, but both are actually much more about the main character helping people dealing with their problems than they are about those particular elements. The key difference that makes them a nice complement to each other is the way that the protagonists are characterized; Rascal is an aloof and seemingly apathetic guy who springs into action the moment someone he cares about needs help, and in contrast, Tohru affects change in others through her endless energy and positivity. The problems in Fruits Baskets tend to be more literal and  read more

Both shows deal with the idea of how everyone has some sort of troubled past no matter how normal they seem on the inside. In both cases, it also follows a protagonist whose influence acts as support and strength to help the rest of the cast get through their problems

Both anime has cursed persons that turns into another gender or animal when getting wet by hot/cold water or in the the case of Fruits Basket: hugged by the opposite gender.

Though they have very different settings, both feature a female protagonist who is incessantly cheerful and optimistic despite circumstances that would have destroyed many of us.

Both were animated by TMS Entertainment and 8PAN. Differences: These two anime are entirely different in some ways but do have some similar qualities. They are similar because they both have very nice main characters and express a heartfelt story throughout the anime. However fruits basket has a lot less action, highly developed plot, and tension to it. So it all depends of what you liked in D.Gray-man.

1. Akatsuki no Yona has 4 characters who are human but have dragon-like abilities. The dragons are all connected to each other and Yona just like how the Zodiac characters are connected to Akito. Yona is completely different from Akito though. She is not possessive and abusive towards the dragons. 2. The comedy 3. Reverse harem but only slightly because the story makes it clear who will end up with main female lead early on

Same concept with the Chinese Zodiac signs + the cat humanized, but the protagonist is a male and the Zodiac animals are all females. Etotama is more comedy focused though and has 3D chibi sequences which might be disliked by some viewers. Both shows are focused on the cat and the rat.

In both stories, the central character is a girl who finds herself dealing with dealing with supernatural beings. In both cases, these include some difficult characters that the girl eventually wins over with some effort. Their personalities are somewhat different but overlapping. FB's Tooru is incessantly cheerful and optimistic, whereas Kakuriyo's Aoi is more precocious and incorrigible. Both make frequent references to who raised them, though they are vastly different from each other. Tooru's mother was an inspiration not only to her but everyone else she met, whereas Aoi was abandoned by her mother and raised by her grandfather, who we learn was quite a  read more

-Both of them are heartwarming animes that can be sad at times - Both Mc's are selfless & kind people - Both are slice of life drama's that deal with somewhat supernatural things (one being yokai and the other being zodiac signs) - Soundtracks are similar

My recommendation purely comes from the relationship aspects of the series. I couldn't help when watching Ooku realize that Tokugawa Iemitsu's relationship(s) with her concubines, was very similar to that of Akito and the Zodiac. Of particular interest would be Akito/Iemitsu parallels with Shigure/Arikoto.

I'd say the two are somewhat similar in the sense that they're both coming of age dramas that involve the main characters facing the burdens of their past traumas and overcoming them. Both stories are extremely emotionally heavy at times. Both series take slightly different approaches, to the detriment of neither. I'd say ef leads more towards a melodramatic approach while Fruits Basket takes a more realistic approach. ef also isn't as seamless as Fruits Basket in my opinion but in terms of direction, I'd say ef is a lot better in that regard, Shaft gets really ambitious with their visuals at times. A story that dives into the nature of the feelings that we experience every day, the most important of which are happiness and sadness. We learn to understand the importance of love and why we might hate someone. A story that can change your outlook on life. It makes you reflect on your overwhelming feelings that you have forgotten because of the cruelty of life. A story that you live with its ups and downs that makes you realize the importance of friends, family, and a lover, and especially the importance of loving yourself

Hear me out, - Fruits Basket and Naruto are mainly stories of the outcasts. Most of the characters in both series have tragic backstories. - If there's anyone who can match Naruto's 'talk no jutsu', it's Tohru Honda. - Both have themes of self-improvement, self-acceptance and moving forward. - Both are motivational.

There's a similar "love" story line along with character tropes and traits. They both have emotional or funny moments that compliment each-other well.

- I see a comparison between the Somas and the Hashiras. The Somas all have a dark past they're trying to escape because of the curse, while the Hashiras have a dark past or reason to fight because of the Demons destroying their lives / families. - Tohru and Tanjiro are both kind souls full of sympathy, acceptance of others and willingness to help people.

Both shows are in the romance genre, and the main girls are similar to one another. However, Fruits Basket has multiple love interests, and Nozaki only has one. Both shows are also more character driven then plot driven (at least during the first season of Fruits Basket, I dropped it after that so I can't talk about the rest of the show). Overall, Nozaki seems like a more modern version of Fruits Basket in some ways. If you liked one of them, you'll probably like the other.
