Similarity: Both have their war genius, and like Yang Wen-li, Sokta hate war. Questioning the war itself. Starting as a low ranking officer both have to obey the dubious orders from their commanders.

Big space battles are decided by the actions of several key individuals. Soldiers have to change their allegiances as the political situation changes during successive wars. War seems endless as factions are replaced in coups. Blurring between protagonist and antagonist.

Both are stories written with a measured and meticulous style with very different sensibilities from what modern shows embody. Stated more succinctly, both are classics. Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu is more grandiose, elaborate and winding, mostly avoiding storytelling by direct confrontation and rather focusing on building the character, the setting, motivations and conflict from afar. Although Dororo has a similarly elaborate moral backdrop, it employs a much more straightforward, confrontational storytelling style (with a lot of supporting action) that may make it more palatable for viewers that enjoyed the conceptual landscape of Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu but could not stomach it's sedentary storytelling style. They come packaged  read more

Mix of well balanced politcs and warfare with excellent characters and story.

Two titanic intellects, one bent on reshaping the world to their own desire, the other fighting to maintain the status quo. This description fits both of these animes to a tee. They both tell their respective stories from the perspective of the two main characters. Rather than portray one as the protagonist and the other as the antagonist, they both leave the decision of who's the good guy and who's the bad guy up to the viewer. I have often heard both of these being referred to as a "thinking mans" anime and require some thought on behalf of the viewer to aperciate. So long as LOGH's  read more

League of the Galactic Heroes and Code geass Characters are very similar in ways, both Lelouch and Prince Loghengramm are trying to make the future better, while Yang Wenli and Suzaku are trying to improve the present, while both anime present the goal of Unifying the world/universe in there storylines, both anime have very compelling storylines and if you loved one there should be a 99.9% of you enjoying the other!!!

I believe everyone who has watched both shows is gonna agree with me when I say that Char/Casval and Reinhard are very similar in many aspects, like how both of them were comitted to overthrowing a bigger power that made them suffer, and even in how they did so. But what really makes LoGH a strong recommendation for Advent of the Red Comet's fans is how one show complements the other. Casval has the backstory that Reinhard needed and lacked, while von Lohengramm's geniousness would've been perfect in Rem Deikun's hands.

Both of these anime feature an epic and dramatic story centered around two deep and well developed characters. Among these characters I found Griffith from Berserk and Reinhard from LOTGH to be very similar, both being young feminine looking men with dangerously grand ambitions, strategic genius, and subversive ideas. They also each share a distinct tone in their storytelling which can best be described as poetic. This poetic aspect overlays the constant brutal battles that drive each of these anime and creates an unsettling but engaging contrast. I think that anyone who is willing to overlook the shift in scenery and time period will appreciate  read more

Both series are remakes of their original series, and they are some of the best modern space operas you can find around in anime. With excellent animation & CG, great choice of music, and great world-building for you to be invested in, these series can definitely satisfy your sci-fi & space cravings.

Tl;Dr - Steins;Gate follows an individual's fight against conspiracy. Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu follows individuals leading a war between two societies. Full Comparison - Both anime use Action, Adventure, and Drama to tell a Sci-fi story of a brilliant MC that is on the verge of making a world-changing achievement and must now fight the antagonists - outside forces trying to stop them & a cruel reality of losing what's most precious. Steins;Gate has a crazy-brilliant, outcasted MC, and the series develops from a slow-paced start to the series, chasing a desire for the Sci-Fi to be real -> into an action-packed and exciting development of a  read more

Similar premise and setting: an ongoing war between an imperialistic galactic monarchy and a democratic military allaince, set in the distant future. Also, both sides feature military prodigies who become fierce rivals with each other.

Both Galactic Heroes and Gundam Unicorn are epic space operas featuring sprawling intergalactic battles between two large scale military factions. Because of the similar settings and premise, along with both boasting high production values, watching one reminded me of the other.

It involves wars where the principle of peace is at stake, and where one strives to get over the other in order to achieve victory.

Both series are sci-fi and make a superb watch. While Galactic Heroes has more of Star Wars vibe, Planetes has more realism (set in a not so far off future and there are no space fights). Plenty of drama in both series though.
