Zankyou no Terror

It's rare enough for an anime NOT to pander to otaku with sexual fetishes disguised as female characters. Death Note and Terror in Tokyo have roughly FOUR noteworthy female characters between them, much less fanservice! I could recommend the two based solely on that aspect... even though Terror is undermined by its two plot device female characters. But there are NUMEROUS far more concrete similarities, ranging from the tone / direction (subdued real-world grit) to the characters and plot that made me automatically link them in my head. DN and Terror are mind-game series where geniuses go head-to-head with one another. A police investigation is started in the wake of vigilante acts of terrorism / murder, with a task force formed, and an extremely intelligent detective appears to duel with with his new nemesis / nemeses in the public domain. From there it becomes a game of cat & mouse, with the respective leads leaving clues for the police whilst also covering their tracks perfectly. Also, it in both series genius children are 'cultivated' at orphanages and - I assume - are ranked according to their intelligence. In Terror the leads even refer to themselves and other children from their orphanage by their numbers, rather than names. In DN each genius child had a false name starting with a different letter from the alphabet, rather than numbers to distinguish themselves. But, regardless, Terror follows DN in terms of the mind games involving more than just the initial characters. In addition, Near in DN and Five in Terror are introduced as the two series progress; both backed by the FBI. AND THAT HAIR! Fans will argue that both characters' introduction coincides with a nosedive in quality in terms of the series themselves, but Five having little to no motivation, or depth, seems to bother people more than Near. read more 

Very similar concepts which use domestic terrorists to critique the Japanese government. They each have nice OSTs and cinematography but Eden accomplishes the terrorism/social-critique angle much more effectively than ZnT. 

The art and genre between these two anime are really similar. The story line is slightly relative due to it's about solving crimes and preventing major incidents. 

Detective gets called back to the police force due to a string of crimes with philosophical undertones.  

Main things that make these two animes similar are the protagonists being genius like anti-heros, with a major theme being terrorism. Also, both animes have another strong character with differing values with the main character, hence fighting against the them. I think there are a lot of hidden metaphors in both animes, and they both explore deeper notions and emotions as the story progresses. There is a lot of action, strategic planning, girl characters that don't do much, long legged skinny guys as the mains...but they're still pretty cool... Zankyou no Terror is not finished at the time of making this recommendation, but I am up to date. This is my opinion on similarities at the current time (August 2014).  read more 

Well Monster is basically the same but with more plot, episodes. What stands out the most is the point of view both have protagonists who stand out in a specific field but overall Monster does a way better job at tackling the "situation". In conclusion if you liked Zankyou no Terror than you will love Monster. 

Both ZnT and S;G shares the same fashion of thriller-inducing stories and mysteries. Both stories goes on like nothing is going to happen except for what is already happening (protagonists carrying out terrorism in ZnT/conducting time machine experiments in S;G) while leaving several hints and mysteries for the audience to figure out throughout the story. At some point, both stories has its own plot twist but still shares the same fashion: a conspiracy being responsible for the existence of the plot twist and mysteries that were left unanswered to this point. Personally I'd recommend this if you enjoy some thriller with storyline that leaves you some mysteries to be thought about. read more 

Both these shows kind of give off the same vibe. Something weird is going on due to the past events of character's childhood. Mystery and serious undertones.  

Both shows have a similar realistic and contemporary feel in atmosphere and tone to certain extent. They both have characters who are geniuses that use their powers for iniquitous motives. Subete ga F ni Naru however is much more nuanced and has superb writing compared to latter. 

Both anime talks about two friends who wants to overthrow the existing government. Nezumi from No.6 have the same reason as the two protagonist in Zankyou no Terror: revenge while Shion is more similar to Lisa. The atmosphere, general feeling and character development is similar in both anime.  

Both shows feature children who were involved in some sort of experiments. Similar opening songs too  

Both series are mature in tone and tackle morality, terrorism, and what it means to be human. They are set in modern Japan and feature more realistic styles of animation, but they also have a slight sci-fi element: in Inuyashiki, humans gain robotic abilities through an unexplained alien encounter, and in Zankyou no Terror, children are experimented on to make them genius savants. Both series have some very dramatic and emotional moments, too! 

-Both anime's theme revolves around a dark psychological thriller. These anime will definitely take you on a major rollercoaster with tons of cliffhangers that leave you wanting more. If you like one, you will like the other. -Zankyou is more subtle crazy, curious about discovering and figuring out what the real truth is while Yokashou knows the truth and figuring a way out. Both very big emotional rollercoaster. Both keep you on your toes after every episode -Both animes have two main guy characters and one girl character, very similar personalities -Both animes, the children are labeled with numbers and are born in a similar environment. The smartest are the ones who will make it out alive read more 

BOTH: -From a perspective that is considered a threat to society. (Terrorists, Ghouls) -Involve a team of investigators tracking down our main protagonists. -Are set in the city of Tokyo. -Have similar art styles. -Have similar tones/moods. -Have similar music. -Have characters which seem threatening on the outside, but have relatively good intentions. One huge thing that I love about both of these animes and believe is the main similarity between both, is that they are from perspectives that you would not expect. The stories are told from point-of-views that clash with human society, yet you find justice in both sides. With 'Tokyo Ghoul' you see things from the ghouls' point-of-view. Ghouls eat humans, yet I find myself routing for them, as well, and then my feelings contradict. In 'Terror in Resonance' you see things from the terrorists' point-of-view, who are considered dangerous to the public, but I end up becoming more interested in the terrorists' story. Both question views of society. I like that they stray from the norm and make the audience think about what justice is and what it is not. Both are set in the city of Tokyo which I personally like. I love the night scenes in both of them; it has a huge impact on the mood. They share clear-cut visuals when it comes to animation, lighting, and colors. I think anyone who has seen one or the other should make sure they've seen both. ;) read more 

Both animes have a similar dark, gritty atmosphere. The main characters have exceptional capabilities and fight to break out of the cycle of despair the world has forced them into. 

Both series have war and a lot of relationships to outside conflict and each side having to defend and attack. Both involving a lot of terrorism and solving crimes. Highly similar protagonists, very calm and very determined to help one another to find solutions to problems. 

Both these animes have amazing plots, engaging characters, These series keep you on the edge of your seats and in the end leave you feeling empty and well, fulfilled but not at the same time?? THEY'RE BOTH GREAT ANIMES THAT DESERVE SO MUCH MORE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT, ATTENTION AND LOVE!! Go watch them asap if you haven't!! (personally prefer 91 days over the other but ZnT has amazing soundtracks)

I guess both shows are centered plot-wise around terrorism phenomena.  

They're not very alike (only the tags) actually but for me, both anime affects you the same way. Literally. Terror in Resonance just has more action. 

- Both main characters are being chased by the government. - They have been treated in a very cruel and unjust way at some point. - They're not exactly positive characters. - Both of them are 'superior' to most other people - Nine is supersmart, while Kei has superhuman abilities. - There are terrorists/weapons/riots/bombs and stuff. - Both anime contain violence, blood, murder. - They have similar music. - And they really give off a similar feel in general. Also, there are some really emotional moments. 

two main male characters that has close secret relationship (with similar personalities ones quirky and energetic while the other is calm and collective), while in between a female character, also has similar settings and mysterious tense atmosphere. Both animes tended to revolve around the fight/struggle of society  

Orphans threatens a nation in order to make themselves heard. They have different reasons. The Moriarty brothers want equity in England, whereas Nine and Twelve want the Athena Project (an experiment they were subjects in) to be exposed. 

Both are tightly woven stories with a similar tone: somber yet hopeful, plus the thriller and mystery elements throughout. Both stories that blend the darker sides of reality with brighter spots of hope, depicting the moral grayness of good people who have done not-good things. They're both shows that reveal themselves piece by piece in all the small details, making you question what you're watching (in the good way) until you get to the end and go, oh, wow, that was beautiful. If the tone or overall feeling of one resonates with you, give the other a try. 

Both series are somewhat similar with trying to bring justice out from an crime case, I would recommend zankyou no terror with more mature audience But both are really similar , I found millionaire detective has a lot of comedy ans stuff you should really check them out both 

Both shows are detective series, where detectives tracking down a group of criminals, who were part of a secret experiment. Both have similar dark and thriller atmosphere.  

I dont know what is about these 2 but they have the same vibe  

Both feature a story focus around conspiracy theories and especially terroism and have a cast of unusual young adults with strange powers to them too. 

In both series, you need to use your minds to understand the story. Both series are boring at first but suddenly gets interesting midway. And both series has awesome twists and storyline that will make you score both series an 8 or above rating 

Both anime have terrorism as a main part of their story. Both excell in visuals and sound. But, GitS is way better in everything else. If ZnT is like a dull painting with beautiful borders, then GitS is like a chef-d'oevre of a painting with every kind of detail and masterful handle. 

the whole concept of children taken in at a young age and are experimented on in an institute unknown to the public 

You have to watch both to understand the connection ... but once you do or if you have, it reveals the power behind both plots. The characters drive the story which tells what human character will do in times of crisis to prove a point.

The highlight of both show's main similarities are centered around the main protagonists: They are willing to do wrong to achieve things which are right to them. They have a dark past which constantly taunt them. They are emotionless when it comes to violence. They use aliases but their true names are unknown. They are terrorists in the eyes of society. Other than that, both shows somehow touch on society's problems but also involve conspiracy plots. They are also dark. Of course, the visuals are nice in both of these shows. When it comes to differences, however, DtB is more fast-paced in action and has more characters to fill in the plot of the show while ZnT is more cryptic, more realistic as well as having few characters which are important enough to set the whole story in motion.  read more 

If you like anime set in cities and smart characters who like toying with people, Durarara / Zankyou no Terror is the way to look. Both also have that fun and seemingly playful character who has had darker times, and even a shy girl if that's what you're looking for. Aside from the sense of mystery, the art style is admittedly similar at points- You have that 'online' element though with Durarara it is with chat rooms, as well as beautiful night scenes with buildings and cars motorbikes. There is also rivalry for its fans, and potential ships as a bonus.  

Both were directed by Shinichiro Watanabe. Terrorists (Rogue Replicants and Sphinx) fighting for a cost, of their freedom and open the people's eyes. Both Blade Runner: Black Out 2022 and Zankyou no Terror had a similar climax and good animation.  

Both are made by the same studio, and have simular animation styles. Both have beautiful soundtracks. If you like watching artsy and just wonderful anime, check this out. 

Both of these anime portray a corrupt government whose interests are at odds with what is right, just, and best for the people. They also focus on military power and terrorist activities in Japan. Definitely recommended these two anime for anyone who enjoys mature anime.  

Both are engaging thriller animes. Whilst they both are very different in terms of character and plot, they hold the same kind of directing style. But moreso i just think that if you like either one of these shows and have not watched the other yet, you will most likely enjoy it. 

In both shows the main character is a lonely girl with not a lot of friends or confidence, she then meets two mysterious boys. One is quite extroverted and the other keeps more to himself. The main girl gets to know these boys trough out the episodes. Both shows have kinda creepy vibes 

The protagonists face off against an enemy whom they share a history with them and has a similar ability. Along the way in both shows, the protagonists make allies and try to reach their main objective/foil the enemy's plan. With a similar darker/serious tone and a presentation plot that slowly unveils more about the origins as the story progresses. 

Both involve detectives trying to track down a criminal with unorthodox motives. Paranoia Agent is a lot more of a surreal psychological mystery, while Terror in Resonance tends to be more of a thriller.  

Mysterious plot, with the "Terrorists" actually being the "good guys", Conspiracy in high levels of government, Tragedy and some very tear jerking moments, make these anime similar at a sort of surface level. Zankyou had a far more serious, experimental and dreamy vibe to it, whereas Guilty Crown has much more fan service and typical anime troupes. Both can be catagorized in the "emo-terrorists with psychiatric issues" category that I literally just made up.  

both have weird turn of events every now and then both have mc who aims for nobel goals and they are both filled with all kinds of feelings 

- Both shows are set in a terrorist world. ZnT has the feel of being puzzling and melancholic, while there are fight scenes, it focuses on the drama and mystery around why they commit acts of terrorism. - Both shows have Anti-heros - Both shows have some sort of power, in ZnT their 'power' is their high intelligence  

Philosophical. Reflective, with an introspective story line.  

Both are psychological dramas which dive very deep inside their characters' mind. Both have similar art stile and amazing soundtrack. Finally, both of them leave you with empty(in a good way) feeling and you need to thought for a while to fully understand them. 

"Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin" and "Zankyou no Terror" are two anime series that share several similarities, yet are vastly different in their execution. Both shows delve into themes of trauma, justice, and morality, with a focus on characters who have suffered in their pasts. Despite their similarities, the two series approach their themes and subject matter in very different ways. "Rainbow" is a more grounded, realistic depiction of the harsh realities of the criminal justice system, while "Zankyou no Terror" is a more fantastical, adrenaline-fueled thriller. 

These animes are so similar and amazing and I don't really know how to explain it. I highly recommend both of them and they are both in my top 5, might even be my top 2 Both have: - Good bit of action (but it doesn't try to cover for bad plot) - Little hint of romance, but not the focus - Plot twists - Dark backstories, and deep shit that might mess with your head a bit - Pretty good animation - Great character design - 10/10 and criminally underrated  

Both revolves heavily around bombs and explosions where the MC previously live in isolation from the outside world.  

While the stories are very different, both anime carry a certain feeling of dread and a constant pressure throughout the episodes. A same "vibe", if one may. 

Both of them involve an unusual theme and story, sometimes can be too surreal and hard to understand 

Revenge. Elfen Lied and Terror in Resonance both follow these beings that wish for revenge against the people that did them, or at least their pasts, in a horrible way. Elfen Lied is Lucy's killing streak against the people that held her captive whilst hiding away with Kouta with a dual personality. ZnT is Sphinx and their serial bombing to cause distress in Japan for a dark past that dwells within them. Both are good dark anime, with Elfen Lied not being afraid to show blood and gore, ZnT has a more mental approach with Sphinx giving Shibazaki multiple riddles. 

Uncontrollable. Instead of similar plots, Bungo Stray Dogs and Terror in Resonance bring forward the same type of world in where police cannot control the current state of the city/country. BSD has the Port Mafia and Armed Detective Agency constantly clashing between one another in Yokohama. ZnT is different however in that police are struggling rather than being in an area of near redundant. Both are very good anime in which BSD is an action-comedy, ZnT is psychological. Both have great mystery too. 

What I like about these two anime is the story, which is a twist and complex plot where the audience can determine which side is good or the villain according to their respective views and also these two anime are done by my favorite studio, mappa studio. 

It's a bit of a stretch but both anime include the back story of children being tested on in a lab. You get to see how childhood friends have grown and developed with different philosophies then come back together in the future as foes. 

Happy Sugar Life is somewhere between Mirai Nikki and Terror in Resonance. HSL could be looked at where Shio is the same Ishmael style protagonist that TiR has. Not exactly, since Shio is more of a macguffin in HSL's story. Terror focuses on people who feel outcast or alone lashing out to feel fulfilment similar to Satou, where they take characters that would normally be seen as morally black, then show things from their perspective without actually painting it grey. TiR does seem to show its protagonists more as vigilanties, but that could be chocked up to an unreliable narrator considering you make the call and you follow the main cast. read more 

This anime is about a genius duo that are terrorists. Through their experiences, we see different ideals and flaws of humanity. There are a bunch of metaphors as well. 

in both anime the Police Force and detectives find themselves collecting clues and chasing Bombs from location to another which planted by crazy bombers who seeking for revenge . 

Both are concerned with the issues of globalization and the youth generation of japan. Whilst your name covers youth/grey generation, 3/11 disaster, cultural heritage/globalization, male/female, and urban/ rural. Terror in Resonance is mainly about the american big daddy and what terrorism could mean for japan. 

In peaceful world, there are wave of mysteries lingering under the shadows waiting to be unlocked. Both these series transpire in completely different worlds but leave some loopholes and questions unanswered which ends up being very entertaining to watch. Code names/nicknames are just icing in their own right on what's already an impressive story. 'Zankyou no Terror' starts off with what seems to be mindless terrorism but does not deviate from its objective which is the true motive at the end of the tunnel. Good and bad aren't so easily distinguishable based on actions from both sides. Also, the character developments, stunning animation and cheeky riddles will proved to be an enjoyable ride. 'Hitsugi no Chaika' parades on a linear story with its mysteries seemly developing along the way. It might not have as brilliant of a story like 'Zankyou no Terror', but its simplicity has surely paid off particularly on the storyline. Overall, it's one of the interesting series where less is more.  read more 

They are stories that deal with political/science conspiracies and spies, gouvernment secrets and detective mysteries. They are also packed with thrills and action.  

Both have to do with terrorism somehow. They also both have to do with detective work and questioning if what some characters are doing is right.  

Terror! Murder! and Explosives! is what the avarage day is made out of for these youngsters, if you care to spend those 4 spare hours of yours you'll experience the heaviest of destruction and abnormal lifestyles and will carry you on toward hitting that otaku state of mind, and possibly a psychos one. The unique skills laid on here will let your mind loose and the burdons on the characters will soon be your own as you seek to accept these animated figures in your heart. 

Both are all about potent postwar commentary. Whilst eva only uses vague symbolism a couple of times to illustrate this. Terror in Resonance takes the root idea and runs with it. Both are in my mind very incomplete works but nonetheless are the most relevant modern examples I can think of to date.  

Zankyou no Terror is easily one of the best shows of the year, and it has some similarities with Coppelion, another show I liked. The similarity that meant the most to me is the poignant emotions of the characters arising from the complicated situations they are in. Nuclear energy, the corruption of politicians, medical experimentation on children, the absolute hierarchical tyranny of Japanese bureuacracy and the interference of international powers in internal affairs are shared features of both anime. Both are set in Tokyo (Coppelion in a post-apocalyptic city). In both cases, the characters are led to ponder the question of their own identities and the meaning behind their lives. If you liked one, you will most probably like the other. read more 

you get a similar FEEL when watching these anime. a distant feeling of melancholy and interset to learn more about the characters. it also makes you question what is right and what is wrong. who are the good guys really? really intriguing if you are looking for an anime that really makes you think and you have to pay attention to get the underlying themes of it this is a must watch.  

Mature, real characters Deep psychological themes Unique and creative art styles Hauntingly beautiful scripts A treat for those with a little something between the ears. 

Same feeling. Both deal with crimes and the struggle to solve them. Both build up a feeling of suspense In both of them the media plays an important role. 

Similar casts: Quiet glasses boy + oblivious girl + quirky second guy Similar atmosphere: Both shows are known to have very atmospheric presences, a strong tranquility feeling and elegant mood. Directed by the same person. Same musician did the BGM/OST in both. Both are one cour anime with a conclusive ending. 

They share the same dark, murderous feeling. They both have quite the mysterious theme where the watcher can help play detective and immerse oneself in the plot. 

Out for vengeance? well the main characters of these anime are. Both MCs have had there life crushed , destroyed, and they do all they can to extract their revenge upon the people they loath. I hope everyone enjoys these anime. 

In Wolf's Rain, a pack of wolves is searching for something they desperately desire where as in Zankyou no Terror the protagonists already know what they want and try desperately to achieve it. Both series pack a ton of emotion and will have you cry at times, though Zankyou no Terror starts off a little slowly. They are both slow paced series with a lot of attention for character development and drama build up. There is also a good amount of action and even some comedy. Last but not least, they are blessed with a a soundtrack composed by the amazing Yoko Kanno, who can bring every scene to a whole other level with her music.  read more 

In Terror in Resonance, and Big Order, the group the main character(s) are with are trying to take over the world. In each series, the main characters are being hunted by the government of Japan. The protagonists of each series have a tragic backstory involving a lot of death. Each series has a relatively small amount of episodes, Big Order (10), Terror in Resonance (11). 

To be honest, both of these animes are polar opposites. However, if you like Mayoiga, you will most certainly take interest in Terror in Resonance. Both animes have characters that dislike the world, as they feel that injustice, in some form was used against them. Terror in Resonance also shares the rather uneasy atmosphere that is found in Mayoiga.  

The main characters who suffered as children, are still suffering, and retaliate for various reasons against their the people who hurt them. In both stories is an underlying tone of their desperation and loneliness, even as they display great power. 

Packed to the brim with action and suspense, anyone looking for something vigorating and thought-provoking to watch should definitely give either Steamboy or Zankyou no Terror a try. After re-watching both anime I was still noticing nuances and details I had missed before. While Zankyou no Terror is set in the near future and is focused on terrorist attacks in tokyo, with a government cospiracy behind them, Steamboy is set in Steampunk Victorian England and portrays the greed of humans in the form of a mechanical invention that got out of hand. Both are definitely something bound to keep you on the edge of your seat with your eyes glued to the screen. read more 

These are both anime that follow a girl whose life changes as they are taken away to a life of danger and adventure (although they do adapt to this new life differently). These anime both had to do with solving problems and mysterious. 

Tokyo Ghoul and Zankyou no Terror are both shows who have two sides who clash due to different goals, but neither side can be determined as "the villains" or "the heros" because there is a little bit of bad and good in either side. ZT also follows the side that is seen as only bad at first, but as the series develops it becomes more of a grey area.  

Both shows shine in mindplays. If you like anime that makes you think along then these are for you. Although HxH starts simple the storyline will get more mature and tricky as the story progresses. 

Both are enjoyable psychological anime's with good plot twists, pacing and animation. 

Similarities: - Both series takes place in Tokyo - Realistic environment - Involves a girl, who wishes that everyone dissapear - Psychological setting - A little bit of school theme element - Gloomy story telling - Both series are unique and counted as a "disaster genre" due to the building destructions, ruins and people panicking Differences: - Both series has different story and character approach: ZnT --> Main charachters are the antagonists TM 8.0 --> Main charachter is the protagonist - ZnT is purposely destruction of Tokyo - TM 8.0 is catastrophic destruction of Tokyo Rec: Both series reminds of each other due to the realistic environment and the "disaster-feeling", which you get from watching movies etc. that are closely related to real-life. In other words, you can relate the incidents and perhaps imagine if it were to happen in reality. They are both very unique series and gives you a completely different level of anime. Therefore I recommend these series, if you would like to watch a different and new category of anime. read more 

Both are animes in which you must attentive to their development, in which even the smallest detail has its importance. Aesthetically, the drawing of characters seem slightly and there isn't really colorful in either, while in Ergo Proxy the dark is the predominant, in Zankyuo Terror are little saturated colors 

The two series follow the actions (and possibly the effects) on terrorism. Plot wise, both have a detective/ investigator that hunts down terrorists/criminals in the city of Tokyo. It follows a somewhat mystery that gets expounded within each passing episode. In addition, it explores the past of the characters, following themes of law and order. However, Zankyou no Terror seems a bit superficial with the usage of mythology and thriller, despite the very realistic setting and art style. On the other hand, Tetsuwan Birdy Decode:02 has a much more character driven plot and is surprisingly more human despite the heavy action scenes, the sci fi setting (though mostly takes place in Tokyo), and the large cast of aliens. Also, both have made blatant uses of historical events for their fictional universe. If you have seen either one, you'll obviously know what I mean. read more 

If you like the recent episodes of Attack on Titan, then you will most likely adore Terror in Resonance. I can't describe how much I love Zankyou no Terror without mentioning important details in the plot (NO SPOILERS!). However, I can say that it has twists and turns, and the plot may fool you. If I haven't persuaded you yet, Terror in Resonance is animated by MAPPA. Therefore, the animation style and art are both wonderful. 

both anime talk about surviving in the worst scenario by an humanity and good decision. If you like 7 seeds then definitely you will like Xankuou no Terror.
