No, it's not - not for every random anime, that is. Maybe for SnK exclusively, but not for every anime. Check the Ghost in the Shell: SAC, Cowboy Bebop, Darker Than Black, Berserk, Death Parade, Full Metal Alchemist and way more titles - no annoying morons and idiots, though those shows are simply legendary and lack absolutely nothing. It's just a stupid mode of some sort, to show some characters as total idiots and pussies. It's supposed to be funny, I guess.
Well, he seem like it, so you know... Maybe he's not, but that's the first thought I get when I saw him. Anyways, let's leave it be. And yes, it's awful how much useful sidekicks there are in anime, like aforementioned Armin. It's not even funny, but annoying.
I admit, that I don't know his background, because I haven't watched OVA and only about 10 episodes of SnK (I couldn't stand more, thanks to Armin...) - so I can just don't like him because I ain't got many intel about him. Anyways, yeah, I've seen he's strong, that I have to admit. But also, for me he seem so edgy, I'm afraid I might cut myself when I'll be standing next to him, so...
I just saw your recommendation and I can't agree with it. Of course, both SnK and BL are action packed - though SnK is rather shallow, even compared to BL. Also, I can't agree with the statement, that SnK have great characters. I know it's about one's taste, though I just felt like telling you this.
I agree completely on that. But most of that started after someone claimed to have seen the ghost of their friend. But I don't know anyone who would act like that.
