Both mangas have three clearly common basics.
I) Battles. As a main resource all characters in both series return to fighting each time they must overcome an enemy or face obstacles. Also, Ryuko and Jonathan have a powerful fighting spirit and both are well skilled.
II) Vengeance. The easiest reason to make a character fight. Both heroes have a desire to avenge their father. Jonathan wants to annihilate Dio Brando, the vampire who killed his father and plan to rule the world. Meanwhile Ryuko wants to discover her father murderer and take revenge.
