Fantastic Jinsei Kataoka x Kazuma Kondo works that are a mix of several different genres (sci-fi, drama, action, supernatural, tragedy, psychological, some violence, some romance). Both are serialized in Shounen Ace, but are surely more mature and interesting than most shounen series.
In both the protagonist is a kid with a monotonous life, who suddenly encounters a strange girl, and sees his life change drastically.
Both series have exciting plots, the same amazing art, and similar characters.

They are written by the same authors. The manga adaptation of Eureka Seven is a more mature and "edgy" adaptation of the anime series. I honestly prefer the manga version of Eureka Seven to its anime counterpart. It's definitely worth checking out if you are remotely interested in mechs.
