Both anime have five magical girls and a main character with ponytails that is really interested in a dark-haired mystery girl. They are also both are somewhat dark series.

Both series focus on a group of girls who become magical girls to fight enemies (each with their own color). In both, there is one girl (purple) who works from the sidelines with an unclear motive.
Both are magic girl shows and the "enemy" girl in both series are also very similar.
Though Madoka is a great anime and Vividred Operation is mediocre at most.
It is a Mahou shoujo anime for one, though it is more horror than Vividred. Friendship is a main theme. Madoka and Akane have similar personalities as do Homura and Kuroki.
