Both of those anime are partially about time travel and it's consequences. Both are rather grimdark and sad. Both are excellent. If you liked the time travel theme of Madoka Magica 2 then you will most certainly like Steins;Gate.

Both anime are darker than what they look like. They have a main protagonist who travels to different timelines to save a friend from an inevitable fate. Overall, both anime have similar concepts and they create a very similar mood.
