Both have the Shinsengumi with Hijikata, Okita and Kondo in it. Though Hakuouki has a Shoujo setting and Gintama is Comedy and not as true to history as Hakuouki might be.

It has the group named "Shinsengumi" in it but some character names are altered.
The anime Gintama is just a parody. And it is soo cracked, that you'll definitely going to burst out laughing at most of its episodes. XD

Both Gintama and Hakuouki feature historical figures from the tokugawa shogunate. Tho Gintama's renamed versions of the characters are comedic, further off reality and focuses on the fictional yorozuya, hakuoki is all about the shinsengumi and not a comedy. The parallels between the characters is a bit strange but fun to see. If you enjoy samurai anime be sure to check these series out!
