Both anime transcend their genre stereotypes quite well. They deal with issues a teenage girl might encounter in a hyperbolic way. Some of the characters from B Gata H Kei might feel familiar if you watched High School Girls, but they don't overstay their welcome.

In both series, the main character is a girl who is excited to be a high school student. The girls' personalities and looks are similar also, as they are both long-haired freshmen that are hyper and quick to making decisions. Wanting to meet boys is another trait they have in common. Furthermore, she does foolish things which makes her reprimanded by her friend(s). In addition, other characters are alike, with a competitive student and a shy one in the cast, among others. Both anime are ecchi as well. Moreover, comedy plays a big part in B Gata H Kei and in Joshikousei Girl's High.
