They have similar casts and the quirky humor is still there. Both are also slice-of-life (like) anime.
You've got to watch Haruhi before you watch Lucky star. There's just too many references in Lucky star you wouldnt get if you hadnt watched Haruhi. Plus theres Seiyuu and same animation company Kyoani.
There's a lot of Haruhi refences in this anime, Konata (the main role) is an otaku, and is also a fan of the Suzumiya Haruhi anime.
Also, she dresses like her in one episode, and share some of the voice actors.
Both anime are funny.
It is pretty much a prerequisite if you want to get a lot of enjoyment out of the series. Otherwise, these jokes will be lost. Watching other KyoAni titles would help, but not really necessary.

Just like another of my recommendations. These 2 differs.. But the concept might be the same, It's what you can call slice of life. And both are very random. The two anime's is also linked in a way. So if you ever feel like watching [i]Lucky Star[/i], I highly recommend that you watch [i]The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya[/i] first. Since some Haruhi moments will appear in Lucky Star. Same goes for the voice actors/actresses.
Excluding the fact it's made from the same company, Kyoto Animation, in almost every episode there's a Suzumiya Haruhi parody as well as parodies from other anime. Most of the seiyuus from Haruhi are also in Lucky Star as well. Don't judge it by the 1st episode, it gets better!!!
they are both ironic in a way, and the dance for the opening (or ending?), is kind of similar, how they're both dancing with pom poms and cheerleading outfits (come to think of it, their outfits are similar also, just a different color) and how theres like 5 or so people dancing.

These are both a 'slice of life' anime. The main characters are a bit on the odd side, but still lovable. Both animes have a strange sense of humor. These are so similar that fans have made up the names "Konaharu" and "Izumasuzimiya". In Lucky Star, many references of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya are made.
Both shows are pretty random but are so funny. Also Lucky Star plays of TMOHS because one of the main characters, Konata, loves Haruhi and cosplays as her in a cosplay cafe.

hmmm well lets see lucky star takes some scenes from the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya and its so funny its a must see if you like it and also stupidity makes it more enjoyable and puts a smile on your face ^^

Both Lucky Star and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya have slice of life school comedy elements to them. Lucky Star has tons of references to The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, which will be really funny if you've seen the show.
Haruhi and Konata has the same seiyuus, both have random comical scenes, both are random, and Itsuki and Daisuke (Daisuke comes in Lucky Star episode 20) has the same seiyuus too.
There are lots of references to TMOHS, as well as other shows. Both are centered around a group of friends in high school with random, loose, hilarious storylines. Plus, both are basically from the same creators.

Lucky Star also has comedic performances on the scale of Haruhi, although quite a different kind. Lucky Star is more laid back and less serious but has a similar style which will please fans of either series

They are sister series, and if you watch Lucky Star after Haruhi's Series, then a significantly greater percentage of its jokes will be gotten.
Its comitic value,and you can relate to the characters of both anime

Well, Both anime have random plot which is full of humor. If you like TMHS you'll definitely like Lucky Star. One of the main characters in Lucky Star, Konata is an otaku hs student. You can see haruhi suzumiya whenever there is reference to anime in this series. The only difference is the way the characters are designed. But overall when you think of Lucky Star, TMHS comes to mind and vice-versa ^^

Haruhi and Konata are the same voice actors and both main characters are loud and random :)
In LS, the super-otaku worships a god. And that god is Haruhi Suzumiya in SHNY. There are also plenty of Haruhi references in LS episodes. Aya Hirano voiced Haruhi and Konata, while Minori Chihara voiced Yuki and Minami. Both feature fun dance routines. If you worship LS or SHNY, you should watch the other as well.
It uses a lot of the same cast--most obviously, Aya Hirano (Haruhi) is Konata, but everyone else from the brigade makes at least a cameo, sometimes more (For the dub, I know Wendee Lee is in both, but I haven't checked out the other actors). Lucky Star makes jokes about other anime, and a lot specifically about Haruhi Suzumiya. It's the same company, and has similar humor. Art is somewhat different, but still has some similarities.
The make alot of reffernces to this anime through out the series and it will help you understand a bit of the humour involved

Lucky Star makes a lot of references to Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu. The main chacter Konata even cosplays as Haruhi in one episode.

Lucky Star often refers to anime Haruhi, there are some episodes with characters from Haruhi anime, and what is interesting, Aya Hirano lead her voice to main character in both series.
Both anime offers something more than just crazy humor - Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu has some philosophical, psychological elements, while Lucky Star gives us interesting view on japanese pop-culture and japanese way of life.
Maybe this too series are not extremely similar, but generally both are great choice for everyone, who wants something more from anime, somthing "smart"
Lucky Star is an anime also created by the company who made the Haruhi Series. Any fans who enjoyed Haruhi would greatly appreciate the various references and themes it links to the series as well as it own twist on the slice of life genre. Featuring its own set of interesting a well developed characters, with the same amazing art style Kyoto Animation is known for.

Lucky Star references Haruhi A LOT, so liking the Haruhi series or at least being very familiar with it, is a prerequisite to enjoying it. If you loved Haruhi, then there is a good chance you will enjoy Lucky Star as well! Lucky Star is a much more laid-back comedy though, without a story. And its humor is very Japanese. So I recommend watching it later in your "anime career", so you will get more of the references and parodies. Haruhi is a great start for any anime watcher though.
