The psychological anguish felt - hopefully viewers of one are ready for another go with the other. Crybaby - it's not just a nickname for Akira, but more of the viewer as well, yet not in a negative manner. The worlds in these horror series are just that messed up.

Akira has a similar apocalyptic kind of story with a really fast pacing, making they feel a bit similar not only as narratives, but as experiences too. While the manga that originated Akira is from the 80s, Devilman Crybaby is based on a 70s manga, which means that while there is an age gap between the original stories, they are both adaptations of older manga.

Both have a sense of philosophical storytelling in it and of course an especially big focus on the ultra violence to to help spice the story up.

Gore anime with mild nudity and amazing plot.

Aside from the fact that the protagonist from Devilman is literally called "Akira" (which actually has nothing to do with the movie) both feature a simillar archeotype of protagonist who gets consumed by some power, both have unique and visually great animations, both feature a large-scale deconstruction in the end, and both make a simillar serious/bizarre approach to their respective worlds
