Mahouka Kouka no Rettousei features a fusion of magic and science where magic has been made into a science. In Toaru Majutsu no Index, it features a similar fusion of magic and science, although admittedly its more of a science vs magic thing. Personally, I find both fun and entertaining to watch because of that combination ^^

Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei and Toaru Majutsu no Index are highly similar in the case that they both invole... Magic and Science in many ways. A "weak" male main character made fun of just because of their levels or ranks Both protagonists have a sort of unique power that separates them from others. Love-struck female characters that you just can't help but enjoy. Awesome Action in the first episode. (maybe)

Both deal with a world involving magic and science. Both feature a male protagonist who is stronger than it would first appear. Similar genres, mix of sci-fi/fantasy and action.

Both Mahouka and Index feature a world of science and magic with seemingly "weak" male main character who display their true strength by disabling the abilities of their opponents. Tatsuya definitely becomes a lot more overpowered as he reveals more of his abilities throughout the season though. On the other hand, Touma only has his Imagine Breaker but he occasionally finds novel ways of using his ability that help to keep the action going.

- Both have male protagonist considered weak, but very strong - Both are set in a world with Science and Magic as the main source of powers - Mahouka has more explanation of how things work Mahouka is more complex and a little darker than Toaru Majutsu no Index, but both similar in most ways. Recommend both if you like one or the other.

Both anime contain a science-magic theme, with "A Certain Magical Index" being about the conflicts between science and magic and "The Irregular at Magic High School" being set in a world where magic is used as a science. The main characters (Touma/Tatsuya) are both considered to be very weak when they're actually very strong, due to having powers that cannot be measured via normal means. Despite this, both are extraordinarily humble about their talents. They also have a young girl living with them (Index/Miyuki), who are clearly in love with them and play a major role in the story. However, personality-wise, Touma and Tatsuya are   read more

Both are set in the future world with the development of science and the appear of the magic power Both main character have special power but they are treated as a weak person Both anime have magic and sci-fi genres Both have awsome action scenes In mahouka, magic is developed thanks to science While in Toaru, the magic side and science side are fight each other.

Protagonist dude who is considered a weak loser by everyone and placed in the "weak people" class. But, obviously, it turns out that the dude is actually the strongest chad around and the only reason he is considered a loser is because of le flawed system and society. And of course every girl within a 100km radius is in love with the dude (its an anime okay). Both anime also have fairly complex magical and scientific systems as well and follow similar plot structures. If you love one, you're bound to like the other.

- Both protagonists are students who are treated as weak, but are really strong, but they do not brag about it. Both universes present magic and science, magic being the enemy of science (Toaru), magic being a science (Mahouka).
