Granted, there are huge differences in setting and presentation, but both center around one man's quest for ultimate power and the many sacrifices that come with this struggle. Political intrigue, war strategy and tactics, along with individual prowess on the battlefield dominate the storyline.

Berserk being the quintessential Medieval work, there are times when Legend of the Galactic Heroes looks like a "Futuristic-Medieval" anime: - The armies fight and create strategies to conquer fortresses (fortresses that are in space). - In both armies there are soldiers who fight with armor (the armor of the Imperial side is very similar to the classic medieval armor) and these soldiers use axes and crossbows. - The way the soldiers kill with their axes makes the battles a carnage (blood everywhere, amputated limbs, bodies split in half, etc.). In both animes there is a warrior who is almost invincible in hand-to-hand combat (Guts and Schenkopp).

Both are highly regarded timeless classics. Military warfare and political intrigue is profound here.

- Reinhard and Griffith are quite similar in their goals and methods, even in appearance; - Both anime are stories of intrigues and politics; - Both are cruel and imply main characters' death; - There are many similar characters in both stories. The difference is in fact that Berserk is a fantasy story, Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu - science fiction.

These are brilliant anime from the 1990s with a heavy focus on politics, war and drama. The character designs in both are a lot more realistic than the typical anime character designs. The characters of Griffith and Reinhard are also pretty damn similar in terms of their goals and personalities.

Just like the other said, Griffith and Reinhard have similar goals and characters. Guts and Yang Wen-Li were also led into a military against their will and became successful commanders.

One of the leading characters of Beserk, Griffth, is very similar to the MC, Reinhard, in which they are both intelligent, charismatic and trying to establish their own empire. Both series involve military tactics and a group of comrades with great admiration for their leader.
