Same studio production, character styles are similar and they give off the same sort of feeling of fun and excitement, however Banana Fish goes on with a bit more intricate plot making you experience sadness as well.
Both are lgbt themed stories and share the same studioes animating it and also a cute wholesome close relationship between the partners as well too and its focused on competition but not one based on organized crime.

If you're looking for something that's similar to Banana Fish in plot or in tone, move along to one of the other suggestions - Yuri!!! on ICE doesn't deal with any of the gritty content that Banana Fish does. However, the reason that some people gravitate toward Banana Fish specifically, as opposed to other shows with equally dark themes, is that it focuses on a romantic relationship between two young men. If you loved Banana Fish for its queer love story but don't want to deal with drug dealers and mafia conflicts, try this heartwarming alternative from the same studio.
