They both have developed, complex, psychological plots. Both have a dark gloomy atmosphere. Both have detectives trying to find the criminal.
Death Note and Paranoia Agent both contain elements of mystery, suspense, police/detectives, and murder. Unfortunately, they both also suffer from plot derailment and meandering near the halfway mark. Still, these anime start out and end on a strong note. Both have near flawless direction, gorgeous art and captivating animation. Paranoia Agent is shorter and might get you to think a little more, especially if you're interested in psychology. Death Note is...a little bit lacking in the substance department; if Paranoia Agent is a full meal, Death Note is more of a light snack despite its longer episode count and fans who may claim otherwise.
